Holy shiat. Really? I mean, really? And it was a PRIVATE company employee who booted a county Ambulance on a 911 call?

Please. Go to jail. Don't collect 200. Don't pass go. And that company should not only have to pay for the damage they did to the ambulance, but also pay that patient's bill, who's care they delayed by damaging the ambulance to the point it couldn't transport.

Convenience store employees allegedly put a restrictive parking boot on the ambulance. And now it was stuck.

Since when can civillians go around attaching boots to vehicles?

Yeah, I think in addition to the hefty lawsuit this patient will be collecting on, everybody involved in the decision to boot should take a nice trip to PMITA prison. There's absolutely no reason to do something that stupid.

Since you parked your car in their parking lot you agreed to have your car towed or booted for violating rules that you may or may not know about and that may or may not actually exist for that parking lot

Stupidity that threatens other people's lives is. I believe "criminal negligence" is the correct term, but I am not a lawyer

You are probably right. I just wanted to use a joke I thought was funny, hence my response.

Stupidity is not. Tampering with an EMS vehicle in the course of delivering patient care, on the other hand, is either a Misderminor or Felony, depending on the state it's in.

manwithplanx: Since you parked your car in their parking lot you agreed to have your car towed or booted for violating rules that you may or may not know about and that may or may not actually exist for that parking lot

Emergency Vehicles are allowed to disregard parking rules by State Law in the course of executing their duties. (Of course, this gets abused -if you say you've never parked in the fire lane at a grocery store while getting food, you're lying..lol). Even if they're not on a call, booting one and taking it out of service is a big no-no. Not only can you go to jail, or be liable for any harm caused by their inability to respond to a call for service, you're responsible for any damage to that vehicle.

That sounds appropriate considering the fact that their actions endangered the patient.

Carry around gas-powered angle grinder.

Saw off boot.

Throw through window of convenience store.

Laugh at their pathetic complaints and attempts to bill you for the window and boot.

Have their lawyer explain it to them.

Laugh again.

I saw a truck booted last week on the side of a residential street, not in a lot. Yesterday the truck, and the boot were still there. I'm starting to wonder if it is being used as an anti-theft device.

I was wondering that as well, but it's New Orleans. They probably paid the bribe and are done with it.

Well, yeah, but the question was about civilians booting cars in general, not just emergency vehicles like in TFA.

Seriously. People are upset over the fact that it was an ambulance with its lights on, but the part where store employees can just put boots on vehicles as they please is equally WTF.

It's New Orleans. I'm surprised the employees aren't in jail. Hell, I'm surprised the employees wern't gunned down by the cops for making them miss their donut break.

If i were the patient I would sue the ever-living fark out of the owners of that store.

Can you imagine bringing that case to a jury...it would be a blood bath.

My guess is that the employees may get a commission for booting the vehicle...

farker deserves to go to jail.

Depending on the circumstances, sometimes they can. Disneyland used to have a boot policy when I worked there; but we never used it, for obvious reasons (we wanted cars to MOVE, not be immobilized). Some malls with large parking structures and other similar locations (universities, hospitals) can boot cars that have been parked overnight, in order to get the owner's attention or preparatory to having it towed.

I have never heard of a minimart having the ability to boot cars like this.

You know exactly what he meant, non law enforcement civilians.
Where I live the only people that are allowed to boot cars are police and the parking patrol people, which are part of the police department.

Boot makers sold all they could to municipalities, lobbied for permission to sell to private businesses.

I'm sure "Boot Man" is a licensed towing company whose phone just happens to be in the convenience store.

Forever? Parking lots are private property, so you contract a company to be complete assholes for you. If you get booted in a parking lot you think the government did it? On the street yes, but not on private property.
