Maybe Ford should be recalled too, then.

Less than the costs of lawsuits and loss of reputation, obviously.

Other Fusions and Escapes aren't included. This is due to drivers reporting that their engines were giving them various warnings about overheating. "Engine over temp, stop safely" and "Engine Power Reduced to Lower Temps."

Welcome to logic school, where we learn there's something beyond grammar. What are we saying here? Those warnings only came up for the recalled models? (Ford learned its lesson, Pinto jokes unwarranted.) Only for the don't need to be recalled models? (Ford somewhat learned its lesson, atleast they have diagnostic info to decide with.)

Fark it: "Fix Or Repair Daily", "cooked or raw",

I'm impressed that it was a warning beyond "check engine."

/When Ford bring out an "Appaloosa" model I might buy it.
//but no "dressage"!

Walking in a Wal-Mart parking lot a couple of years ago I saw a Pinto that had lost the gas cap, so the owner shoved an oily rag in its place. Interestingly, the baby seat in back was new and appeared well fastened.

Safety first.

As someone who drives a 2013 Ford Escape under recall this is fun!

I have no sympathy for the purchasers. Naming them "Fusion" and "Escape" should've been warning enough. What do they have to name their cars... "The 2013 'You Will Die In A Fire'"?

I had a Pinto once...had to keep adding bondo due to rust. Interestingly the bondo actually increased the value of the car (?)

I used to love Pintos. I'd make a commission selling cans of oil at the gas station, and a Pinto was usually good for 2 or 3 quarts. Their only rival was the Chevy Vega, but it was difficult for owners to push them as far as our station.

I had a Ford Explorer in the mid-90's that had a "kill engine" switch intended to avert fires, etc. in the event of a crash. Located (in part) under the dash up the floorboard on the passenger side, where a passenger could disable the vehicle simply by stretching their legs. Fortunately, this issue was first detected in a driveway, where the vehicle stayed dead until I could call the Ford Dealer's Service Dept and have them walk me through a reset on the phone.

/Still like Fords, though. Drive an Escape hybrid that's a few years old, but it's still running like a top

Navin... is that you?

I drove a Pinto... once. The accelerator stuck in the wide open position. Let's see... turn the ignition off and let the steering wheel lock for a moment until I switched it back on and did without power steering, roast the brakes until it stopped, take it out of gear and assplode the engine... hmmm.

Decisions, decisions.

Ford invented the heated rear window so you can keep your hands warm while you are pushing it.

because Ford is the only car manufacturer ever recalled a vehicle. morans.

What is with the last sentence of that article?

"...and issues with the carpet messing with the pedals."

wft? Why is the writer seemingly trying to convey the idea that the carpet is out to get the pedals and is actively "messing" with them. Replace one word (messing with interfering) and it becomes a decent sentence. I write like shiat and even I know better than to write something like that.

So it would have been better if they waited till AFTER there'd been numerous engine fires and a few deaths before they recalled the things?

I don't get the outrage that seems to follow these recalls due to warning lights and potential hazards.

My wife flipped her Escape 5 times days before yesterday with the 21 month old in it. Both walked away bruised and sore but other than that ok. No fire or spontaneous combustion, so I'm getting a kick out of this....

I actually saw a Pinto the other day and it was in a nice neighborhood. I think the person must have been keeping as a joke or something.

Had a manager at work that drive an old manual tranny pinto as a commuter vehicle, had over 300k on it. things break but they are generally cheap and easy to fix.

He did have the gas tank protector thingy welded on..

From what I've read elsewhere (from here):

I talked to my engineering contact during the Thanksgiving holiday who gave me a heads up on this recall. This is a 100% european goof-up, and my contact lay the blame entirely on the Brits

...

It's anti-freeze. Anti-freeze is combustible at 700 degrees F. Anti-freeze leaking onto the exhaust manifold is Ford's best guess as to what's causing the fires (I heard this last Thursday).

I don't think any domestic vehicles came with five speeds then, maybe a three-speed automatic or a four-speed manual

Flames Occasionally Roast Driver

I had a 1993 Escort with the self-igniting ignition switch. Also had a 1987 Escort that would overheat the distributor module and die.
