182: cryinoutloud: You know what would work great? Boardwalks made out of recycled plastic. It's like pressed wood, except it's old plastic bottles and wood scraps. It lasts forever. I first saw them in Yellowstone Park many years ago, but now I see they're using that stuff to make picnic tables and all kinds of things. And you can make it look like wood if you want to.[www.achilles-expert.com image 539x379] Concrete is ugly as fark.yeah, what we need is more plastic for our oceans to swallow.
Rug Doctor: If they spent millions of tax dollars rebuilding the boardwalk, a lot of these people would be railing about the irresponsible squandering of money. Also, this isn't the twin towers -- since when did the Jersey shore become a national treasure that must be memorialized at all costs?
Last Man on Earth: Agreed. I'm nowhere near there, so I maybe I'm missing something, but right after a hurricane, it seems like replacing the fragile wood with wood-paneled concrete would be a much smarter play. Is there some amazingly irreplaceable element to the wood that I'm just not seeing?
MFAWG: Cambrian: Call me crazy but a concrete structure sounds more durable than WOODEN BOARDWALKYeah, not seeing the problem either.
A Shambling Mound: Cambrian: Call me crazy but a concrete structure sounds more durable than WOODEN BOARDWALKBecause the original wood one didn't last very long at all.
