To watch television shows and movies in your living room? The real question is why would you have anything hooked up to it other than a computer and gaming systems.

Yeah, I'm not embarking on a clicktastic voyage to read about TV shows I don't watch.

And if the first pic was any indicator of the rest I don't care. I know of American Idol and it's clones, and I know I don't like the sausage they produce so why would I want to see how they make it?

It's a pain in the arse to get sound from an XBOX without a TV.

/And FOV headaches. I might be de facto blind, but at least I'm won't be having headaches while I'm blind.

NBC is riding football right now. They're ratings go down down down when that's done. FOX and ABC probably stay fairly steady through the year. CBS gets a massive boost from the Super Bowl and the primetime Division Championship

To watch... TV? My Smart TV has Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube applications, has a web browser, etc. It also plays, and I know this is hard to comprehend, OTA television broadcasts like PBS and sporting events.

They're also riding the fall version of The Voice, which they didn't have the last two years. It'll be really interesting to see how the spring edition does and if Revolution can keep its numbers up after a four month hiatus.

CBS will probably finish first again this year (they'll probably make up all their lost ground with the football games). Fox should still finish second, once American Idol gets going. NBC will probably finish third again, though I'm thinking it'll be by a larger margin over ABC than last year.

I'm very curious as to what they'll do in the third season. Season one was set in a haunted house and SPOILERfinished with the birth of the Anti-Christ END SPOILER.

Season two is set in a mental ward with demonic possession, a serial killer, a mad scientist, the angel of Death, mutants, and an alien loose somewhere. Seriously, where else can they go with this?

Maybe a children of the corn kinda thing out in the countryside...

Or an urban setting, crime-story arc with horror elements?

Hell, go sci-fi and do something in the future.

The second season was such a huge change from the first while still being great they could go anywhere...

rugman11: It'll be really interesting to see ... if Revolution can keep its numbers up after a four month hiatus

I really don't understand why networks keep doing this. Revolution isn't necessarily good enough to not have the exact same thing happen to it that happened to similar marginal pseudo-scifi offerings like The Event or FlashForward, people forget about the show and a quarter to a third of the audience doesn't bother coming back after the long break, the ratings keep dropping from there, and on to cancellation.

2012-12-01 02:54:47 PM
I think NBC is winning in the demo this fall, but almost entirely due to the voice and football. Though, they did finally get a couple relatively (for them) big hits in Go On and Revolution.

2012-12-01 02:57:53 PM
They're all winners in the demographics they go after.

Fox: Teenage girls and queers
NBC: Idiots
CBS: Old people, and complete idiots
ABC: Housewives

There isn't a single decent show on any of these networks, though they still all remain in business, somehow. Guess it's all about targeting a demographic.

It's a tough thing. Serialized shows don't repeat well (though few things do these days) so there's no sense in airing repeats like networks do with procedurals. The ideal solution is probably to do what Fox and ABC did with 24 and Lost and air them as spring only shows, running 18-24 episodes without repeats. The problem is that you can't do with that new shows because ratings are always lower in the spring and the track record of shows debuting in the spring is notoriously bad. You could also try going with the British model and just airing 13 episodes, but then you're looking at a nine-month hiatus and try telling a struggling network that it has to keep its top scripted show on the shelf for 3/4 of the year.

Ultimately, this is probably the best option. And Revolution is likely to fair far better than either Flash Forward or The Event. People like to blame the long hiatuses for those shows' deaths, but the fact is that both shows shed half their initial audience in the fall and suffered far worse from their own crappiness than their hiatuses. The Event debuted at a 3.6 rating and was down to a 1.7 by the end of November sweeps. They returned from hiatus at a 1.4 and fell to a 1.1 before being canceled. FlashForward debuted to a 4.0 rating and was down to 2.1 before going on hiatus. It returned from break at a 1.9 and hit 1.3 when it was canceled. Revolution started at 4.1 and has stabilized in the low 3s and high 2s (its last episode was a 2.9). There's really no reason to belive it won't earn a second season.
