Can't say I ever understood the appeal. Why would I want terrible gum and lame comics? Even popsicle sticks had better jokes.

I was so flustered by the Bazooka news, I nearly ruined this month's issue of Grit.

When you are an 8 year old, yes.

From what I recall of encountering Bazooka Joe comics at that age, no.

Still, it's kinda sad seeing them go, sort of like the end of the Burma Shave road signs that I never got to see.

I am confused - there is gum in those comics? I thought they were actually wrapped around a hard pink stone that hurt to chew on.

pissedoffmick: Saved up a billion or so, sent them in (along with S&H) and got a "pearl" handled pocket knife - which my mom took from me immediately.

I remember that phase when as kids we had stacks of Bazooka Joe strips in our pockets - a roll of cash at the table in Vegas couldn't do better.

Where the kid with the turtle neck pulled up to his nose ?

At least they didn't turn Bazooka joe into a homosexual and have a gay marriage with his buddy

Aww.. I remember Bazooka Joes... I got them from the local sweet shop as it was the only place I could get them. Got some impressive bubbles blown with that gum.
I remember the cartoon strips fondly.. collected loads of them and they fitted brilliantly inside a matchbox too.
There was also this other bubble gum that tasted of sweetened disinfectant that had a tattoo in the wrapper of a smiley face...
HubbaBubba bubble gum wasn't the same... it was too sweet despite the large bubbles you could achieve, but being in the same house as a bubble-bursting mother who got a kick from that? yeah, I had chew that stuff either while I was out or while my mother was out, or late at night after I'd gone to bed or if I decided instead on a night of gaming on my zxspectrum 48k computer!
Ahh.. my bubble gum chewing days... when gum was cool... now they're trying to remove that cool..
shame on them!

The gum used to be the best part. I expect they've cheapened ingredients several times since the 60s though.
Also Bazooka made the biggest bubbles, though you had to chew the heck out of it and use several packages.

Regular activities keep kids busy. Funtivities keep them biz-zay. Consistently and thoroughly.

When I was deployed to Bosnia in 1996 they had this gum there that was like Bazooka Joe but instead of a comic you got a sticker of a naked woman. It was called Bikini Babes. Little kids had the stickers all over their bikes and the American soldiers put the stickers all over everything.

I did not expect to see that on Fark.

I spent countless hours playing that game on my C64. A few years ago I payed it again using an emulator, and in retrospect I have no idea what it was I saw in it. It's a terrible game. Yet somehow I adored it despite owning many, many games which are far better.

I think it may have been the flamethrower. Not many of those in games at the time.

Back when i cleaned windows I was in some guys house and noticed some Big League Chew on the counter. At first, I thought "Wow. Haven't seen that stuff in a while." But upon further inspection I realized the package actually said Big League JEWS and had a photo of his two sons holding baseball bats in place of where the normal graphic would be. It was awesome.
