If there were fewer firearm restrictions on college campuses this wouldn't have happened.

The suspect, who used a "sharp edged weapon," died a suicide according to the cops.

Sounds as if the reports of a bow and arrow are somewhat exaggerated. Maybe they meant bowie knife.  Or an Arkansas toothpick.

LazarusLong42: that bosnian sniper: How the fark do you commit suicide with a bow and arrow?

If it was a crossbow, very easily I would imagine.

See, we shouldn't allow bows that have pistol grips. We knew this would happen!

The citizens of Wyoming have firearms coming out our collective ass. He probably didn't want this to get the "typical antigun reaction from the liberal democrats", so grabbed a crossbow and killed his old lady and the dude that was plowing her.

/90 miles north of Casper
//know a guy in Casper with a crossbow
///crossing fingers it was him
////not holding breath: he is a terrible shot.
////because why not

Well, if the arrow wasn't at the scene, it could have easily been a case of, "well... it doesn't look like a gunshot, but something went in there." Blunt weapons don't generally leave holes and all.

I suppose that in the pure technical definition of the word, an arrow could be described as an 'edged weapon', but in practical, common sense terminology? Uh, no.

A big-ass fail for the Casper WY police dep't.

iheartscotch: Kazan: oh you poor poor oppressed second amendment worshipper.. let me count how many national restrictions on guns, reasonable or otherwise, have been passed since 2000

zero, add zero, carry zero.. times 5 for your panic factor. that comes to zero.

Not for lack of trying!

Just one example: there have been at least 4 attempts to ban 5.7 x 28 ammo since 2004 because it is "armor piercing".

What they fail to realize is, most hunting rounds, especially steel core, are definitely armor piercing. No need of quotations.

Don't give them any hints.
If they ever cared about the statisticals, they'd have already seen the assault weapon, machine gun, and ammunition bans were a joke. Rifles cause negligible amounts of harm every year and assault rifles are a tiny subset of those.
What the Democrats wanted was the appearance of looking busy on the fight against crime.

/and if I recall, part of that effort was an import ban on conversion kits that went into effect during the Bush administration.
/Which meant one more law after 2000, on top of thousands of existing laws.
/and most recently the attempt at a magazine ban.
/Its silly to pretend the firearms industry isn't stupidly over regulated.
/Worse to use the lack of legislation as proof that the Democrats have changed their stripes.
/Proof will be when they start to repeal a large chunk of those laws enacted over the years.
/Another FOPA, this time without the parliamentarian nonsense.

When the farking CANADIANS can get a TAR-21 and I can't, I have a right to gripe. Oh yeah, they can get MP7s too. Not to mention SPAS 12s. The import restrictions are bullshiat, and they were passed after 2000.

Try 1990. That's the import ban for non-sporting firearms. Everything since is just categorization.

I think we've covered this ad nauseum but one more time:

- improve NICS system
- introduce earlier and better mental health screenings.
- introduce better systems for reporting troubled people and getting them help.
- introduce measures to help combat poverty and urban decay.
- stop the war on drugs and legalize

That being said, crime rates are at a 40 year low, and continue to decline. Violent crime as a whole continues to drop. Number of victims of gunshots continue to be far smaller than the number of people killed by pools, cars, or other objects.

Frankly, guns are a tool of convenience, much like a power nailer. People will still stab, poison, bludgeon, run over, or find other ways of killing each other. You can continue to nerf the world until everyone is sealed in a neat little vacuum packed container, hermetically sealed and kept away from all possible sources of harm. People will still die.

Until you cure mankind of all his ills and evils, it won't stop people from behaving poorly and sometimes killing his fellow man.

So, you go figure out how to stop people from being evil and leave me the hell alone, since none of my guns, Including a couple of assault rifles and a few legal fully automatic machine guns, have ever killed or hurt anyone.

If you have to choose between bullet or arrow to be shot with; you pretty much have to choose bullet, right? Both would really suck, but I think getting hit with an arrow would suck the most.

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Some of the spikes in crime came from apparent reasons. Urbanization and prohibition are two big ones. We can do much better without demanding perfection, but it means looking at the actual sources of trouble.
To that end, who owns what was never the problem. That's why it seems like a mystery when gun ownership doesn't correlate with crime, because there is no real connection.

If the BATFE was shut down tomorrow it wouldn't be noticed as much as if, say, all programs against domestic violence were cancelled.
But the latter are put on the chopping block more often.
Because we don't read our statistics fairly, we overlook many solutions.

So, some crazy asshole shot some people with a crossbow, and now we have to draw some kind of conclusion from it?
I can't.
I wonder why anybody thinks they can.

Casper Wyoming is Dick Cheneys' hometown. If you ever driven through there, as I have a few times, you would understand why you might want to shoot someone if you live there. It's a long, long way, from anything. Some areas are quite beautiful but It's difficult to understand how utterly barren and empty that place is without driving through it yourself. It's right up there with Alaska with alcoholism and suicide.
