It's the album with Beat It.

Do you really need more of a reason?

Awesome album. That is all.

2012-11-30 10:32:47 AM
I hate this album when it came out, being deep into my High School Heavy Metal Stage. I believe I termed it "faggy", which is a damn strange thing to think considering my Heavy Metal Hero was Rob Halford. Later, I eschewed all things MJ because of his predilections. Now that he is dead, this is farking awesome album.

You didn't think Rob Halford back then was gay? Performances such as Hell Bent for Leather didn't tip you off? If I did not know the lyrics, I would have thought it was an anthem for the Castro District.

Beat It
PYT
Thriller
Billie Jean

Beat it was a cool song. As for Thriller itself, meh. Never really cared for it.

That doesn't look like Johnny Ramone at all.

I was the child of Christian Conservative Parents, I had no idea what gay was. I heard the word, saw Charles Nelson Reilly on the Match Game, but my sheltered upbringing did not include Leather Queens. Year later I went through the "DUH? How could I not see that moment".

Hard to argue with calling that a perfect album.

Did it insist upon itself?

30% of those reasons are rumors that have been debunked. Why can't they just call it an awesome album and be done with it?

Bad was also a good album. Everything after that sucked balls.

2012-11-30 11:37:18 AM
Frankly I prefer the Jackson 5 Christmas Album.

Particularly that song where Jermaine is crying because his girl left him before Christmas and the other four sing "DON'T CRY!  DON'T CRY!  DON'T CRY!"

That's the kind of stuff that made me want to move to Gary, Indiana as a child.

I didn't know Django Reinhardt played on Thriller. Pretty neat trick, since he had already been dead 29 years and all :)

Thriller is 30 years old?

Shiat.

I'd better go find a cane.

That... and sheesh, how many typos can you fit into an article?

There are only two reasons and they are that it featured an Eddie Van Halen guitar solo, (and that isn't to revere the whole album, but to really like one part of one song,) and also that the video for Thriller was cool.

Therefore, the proper thread title should be "Two reasons we like some of Michael Jackson's Thriller album on its 30th anniversary."

It sucked then.

It sucks now.

I'm still looking for one reason to give a shiat.

Because it is good. That is it.

Wow, that is one sad headline.

Yes

"3. "The Girl Is Mine" (with Paul McCartney)"

No. We don't revere it.

We never revered it.

We never will revere it.

Shove the hype back up your ass, record execs.

People who listen to Michael Jackson albums wore hot pink in the 80's, watched Larry King on CNN, and thinks Jar Jar Binks is awesome.

100,000,000 copies sold. That is pretty amazing.

that was the first cassette tape my parents bought me...from Montgomery Ward. I loved that stuff back in the day.

but the meaning of PYT changed over the years.

/not cool enough to hate on it now

I don't revere Thriller. Michael Jackson and Thriller are responsible for all the shiatty reality tv today. When MJ decided to charge MTV for that video other artists followed suit. Then MTV couldn't afford to play videos anymore and they created Real World the mother of today's reality TV. This plague on the television is perhaps MJ's second biggest crime (assuming he was molesting little kids)

i've heard at least 2 really good covers of "billie jean" too...a friend of mine years ago bought the blackstreet single "no diggity" and there were several remixes, one being "billie jean" done to the "no diggity" tune. the other is the civil wars' cover

Fantastic album, I was 6 when it came out and I got the cassette tape and played it so many times it actually warped. PYT was the underrated best song of that album and the one that still holds up best today.

Prosecutor: So, you don't think Michael Jackson is guilty?
Dave Chappelle: No, man. He made Thriller.

2012-11-30 02:13:00 PM
It's funny that when I was growing up (13 when Thriller came out), the fact that I didn't enjoy Michael Jackson's music was no more controversial than the fact that I don't like Rhianna's music today. Now, decades later, not liking Jackson's music has become nearly heretical. I have no doubt that each has talent and that their albums are incredibly well produced and beloved by millions, but when either one comes on the radio, I can't change the channel fast enough.

Chris Cornell did a good one too, IMO.

Human Nature was awesome and should have been released as a single.

Another reason to like it is its role in launching Weird Al Yankovic's career.

I'm old enough to remember when Michael Jackson was not a joke. Good album, and probably the only MJ album worth owning.

Sadly, for reasons known only to Steve Jobs iTunes chose not to push it to my iPod so I'll have to wait until I get home to listen.
