As a Yankee fan, I'm happy for him. It seems like a good deal, and hopefully the Pirates can finish over .500 with his added power.

Aj burnett did better with the pirates than the yankees, maybe martin will improve too

They have Romine, plus Cervelli , Whiteside and Stewart (both guys who split playing time while Posey was injured in '11). It's not like they'll have a guy with no MLB experience.

I look forward to the return of the 1988 Yankees

There is a report that the Yankees told Martin that they "didn't have the cash" to match Pittsburgh's offer - which is hilarious if true.

Loved him on the dodgers and always wished one of those years they would have done more.

Good for him

Maybe I read the article to quickly - who is the backstop in NY now ?

Not true. Taiwan, as a nation, is predominantly pro-Yankess. This is because of Chien-Ming Wang. Even since Wang's move to the Nationals and the rise of Chen with the Orioles Taiwan remains a nation of Yankee fans. It's surreal.

Also, west and south western CT (almost all of which is out of the 20mi radius) is inhabited by a lot of yankee fans who go to games on a regular basis. They really think its their "home team."

/also a bluejays fan.

Great signing for the Pirates. Catcher was basically their worst position last year, and this is an improvement, EVEN IF Martin plays as poorly as last year, which he probably won't.

A brick wall would be an improvement for the Pirates. It'd throw out more runners, at least. As it was, every hit automatically put the players at 2nd

I wonder sometimes how Romine's dad feels about him playing for them. Of course, the fact that Romine's dad was playing when I was in high school is weird in and of itself, but I digress.

Yeah, they made them up in the late 1800's, just a passing fad.

I don't even know why the Rays get such a bad rap. They're one of the all-around better teams out there. Too bad their fan base doesn't appreciate squat. They should be moved to another city.

The Yankees haven't been involved for Mike Napoli, but A.J. Pierzynski has been mentioned as a possible fallback to Martin.

Not that anyone in NY gives a shiat, but the dozens of Rays fans that show up each game will boo the shiat out of A.J. after that spikes-up run in with Zobrist last season.

Fark it, let's get Posada out of retirement.

I like Martin, but....211/.311/.403 with 21 homers, 53 RBI and a .713 OPS this past season ain't gonna cut it.

Ya know, Seattle has Jaso, so they might be willing to trade that Montero kid. Think Pineda would be enough to get the deal done?

I must have missed something. Is he not re-signing with The Sox for sure?

I like him too - he certainly had his moments, and I feel like he was doing a lot better at the end of the season and maybe that would carry over into 2013. I guess we'll never know.

"Ohh Suzyn - he went to Jarrod's!"

But....But good players don't come to small market teams! And can't afford to pay them because our shiat fans won't fill the stadium to watch our AAAA team.

With 5 World Series titles, 1909,1925,1960,1971, and 1979.
Those aren't made up, but apparently you don't know enough about baseball to realize that.

Even crazier there were movies called "Citizen Kane", "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest", and "The Godfather".

They were all made before "Transformers" so you probably never heard of them.

It's not like the Pirates never ever spend any money. They just spend it really badly when they do. Remember when they took Matt Morris and his full contract from the Giants and eventually were paying him all that money NOT to pitch?
