Just finished it about 10 minutes ago. Butcher gave the series a serious shot in the arm.

Did you all notice the tons of pop movie lines in the book?

Haven't got it yet. I guess he hasn't toned down the epicitis, though. Still a great series.

Nice.

Although I've learned you can read on your iphone at work in downtime whilst listening to headphones is verboten.

Yeah, giant fan of the series, but Ghost story was a bit of a turn off for me (but hey, it was SUPPOSED to be dark and depressing).

The much LARGER meta-story that had been hinted about for volumes now finally developed in it's entirety. Kind of a shame though, as i wouldn't have minded some more "regular" chapters (aka Turn Coat etc...) before getting to the larger story. Now he can't exactly go back to a normal "detective" novel, because well... Dresden has turned into a "MAJOR PLAYER" (caps are understood). Was a great addition to the series though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the the lady's mantel supposed to go to the nearest fae, not the nearest mortal?

1) they had both been trained and living/working with fae
2) they were the closest possible hosts

What continues to impress me is that butcher continues to improve as a writer. Mab and Queen mothers, so of the writing was perfect. The Gate, The Gatekeeper,

SM: If you choose to walk with me, what is seen cannot be unseen, and what is known cannot be unknown. It may harm you.
HD: Harm me how?
SM: You may never know a night's peace again.

HD: Wait. I need help.
GK: You don't need help, Warden. You are the help.

A side note for all the Jim Butcher fans who are looking for something to read, and havent read the Alera Codex yet.
What is wrong with you? Buy them now and enjoy while waiting for the next Dresden book.
