Although I am unable to contribute any cash at this time, I did pass this on in my Face book and hopefully other people will share too. This is the comment I used when I posted:

"This is a really good cause. I've been following these guys for a long time, so I know its legit. Even if you can't donate, please pass this on. Thank-you. "

VIdeo is farked on indiegogo.
It is not Caturday.
My Cat money goes to programs whose primary purpose is to promote the spaying.neutering of pets so that unwanted animals can be prevented, thus eliminating the need for pet adoption centers (aka euthanasia holding facilities) in the first place. Because yes, it is that simple. License and regulate breeding facilities, and make it illegal for everyone else to own/possess an unfixed dog/cat. $5000 fine per unfixed animal.

Yes, this is a hot button issue for me. I live out in the boonies where all the city scum dump off their unwanted animals. Why drive 40 miles to dump your dog in the woods when you can drop him off at the pound or the humane society, you ask? Because the pound and the HS charge $20 for a drop off. I can't tell you how many really sweet, well-behaved pit bulls I have had come through here. Heck there was one I wanted to keep just because she refused to crap in the yard. She'd go off into the woods to do her business. Would have made a great pet and companion. (Unfortunately, the wife is terribly allergic to furry animals of all sorts.) My point is that the current model of dealing with excess cats and dogs (pit bulls in particular) is not working. Adoption is simply not the answer, and I could go into a very lengthy discussion of why I think it actually contributes to the problem (and consequently why I don't support it), but I won't muddy up the thread with that. The only real answer is to make it so the decision whether to allow a dog or cat to breed is taken out of the hands of the general public and left in the hands of those who demonstrate that the decision can be handled responsibly.

For the uninformed.... a little clarification about what we do....

We do promote spay/neuter, that's one of our main goals in life. Little Mews Rescue has prevented the births and deaths of thousands of unwanted kittens in our area. I personally help run an organization which helps with low cost spay/neuter as well.

All of our cats and kittens are spayed and neutered before adoption, except those that are too young, but we make sure it gets done when the kitten is old enough. All kitten adopters sign a spay/neuter contract which is strictly enforced, we have had 100% compliance.

We are a no kill rescue, not a holding facility until animals are euthanized. Big difference between a rescue and a shelter. Our adoption center will be strictly no kill also.

Unlike a regular animal shelter we DO NOT demand payment to drop off animals. Our local SPCA does that, which causes more people to turn to us to take in their unwanted animals. We also take in a ton of dumped cats found in boxes in the woods, along the road, abandoned in homes, etc. you name it, they cats have been there. This is a very low income area, people dump their pets they can't afford to keep. Asking for turn in fee defeats the purpose. We gladly take donations, but don't refuse an animal based on income.

I'm on your side as far as making mandatory spay/neuter laws. Big groups like the AKC and CFA are run by people with a lot of money and power who have done all they can to prevent the laws from being created. If rescues could have their way, mandatory spay/neuter laws, no chaining laws, leash laws for cats would all be in effect. But since most of us rescues are small, depend on donations, we're too poor to have much say in town halls when we try to discuss these sort of laws. I've talked to our mayor, he told me he doesn't like cats. In a rural area like this, shooting cats is too much fun. That's their answer to the problem.

I'd like to hear your reasoning why you don't feel adoption is the answer to the problem. Hook up with me on Facebook if you'd like. What do you suggest to help prevent the numbers of animals killed each year in shelters?. Education of the public is important but easier said than done. That's why I like getting kids involved, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, church groups, whatever. Getting through to future generations is the key to eventually stopping this madness.

If you'd rather donate to help spay/neuter here's the link to the organization I help run, All Animals Matter Link.

One of the buildings we're strongly considering to purchase used to be a tanning/nail salon and sex toy store that was owned by a couple of gay guys. So a name like that might be pretty funny.

For the record, and despite what Balchinian said, the video works fine.

You folks do fine work. :-)

Am fairly sure you won't mind if I/we send you a cheque by USMule so you can avoid the dread Processing Fees. Dunno if indiegogo can avoid those for you --
Can recover USMule adrs by the usual means. Can't predict when this can leave here en route to you, but Not Long if I can help it!
The Mob here, our Overlords & -Ladies, heartily approve of The Move Afoot -- or APaw. mrrrowww
