Remember when U.N. Ambassodor John Bolton was called to Congress to testify about the Karachi consulate attack where an American diplomat was killed?
What? No?

Susan Collins was on one of the MSNBC shows today and was scolding Susan Rice for being a partisan UN Ambassador. There's a hole in the floor where my jaw landed.

I heard that too, goddamn crazy there. I think the quote was "Susan Rice chose to go on all of these Sunday morning talk shows" as if she was acting out completely on her own as some kind of renegade ambassador. It sucks for Susan Rice that the repubs are taking out all of their rage at losing the election on her. Like it is her fault that the Republican talking points weren't able to sway the election.

Just so we're perfectly clear on what's happening:

If the GOP can successfully block Rice, the next Secretary of State will be Sen. John Kerry. This opens up a Senate seat in Mass., where the Koch brothers can pour in a ton of money an elect another Republican like Scott Brown. Just today, several Republicans said that Kerry would be a perfect fit.

That's what all this is about.

Collins, Mc Cain and Ayotte all campaigned for scott brown. if Rice is out as sec state the next guy is Kerry -- which opens up a senate seat in MA. you know where scott brown lives.

This, though I expect whatever moderately competent Democrat they put up won't have any problems, as they'll have both Obama and Warren campaigning on their behalf.

I'm kinda surprised we don't have an article up on McCain's latest mind-blowingly stupid analogy. We had all this information about the Bin Laden raid a week after it happened so how come Benghazi was different?

You know, the raid we planned for over a year on before initiating versus the one committed against us and left our US personnel dead? Why such a gulf in information guys?

It's...just stupidity on such a scale that I cannot even describe it.

Possible. They could just be saying that because it makes them look less partisan.
A lot of these guys didn't seem to see the election results coming from a mile out.
A lot of them continue to dispute even the possibility of climate change based on religious grounds.

I'm not convinced that they're conniving, master strategists. As time goes on, I can't help but think that they've abandoned themselves to the type of blind and vindictive rage that possessed Ahab.

Perhaps the GOP should switch from an elephant to a white whale.

Oh. Now that actually makes a lot of sense. It makes me wonder if Republicans actually ever govern or if all of their actions while elected are just positioning themselves or their party for the next election.

In other words, Obama called the GOP bluff and went all in. Now it's time to show the cards. If the GOP wants to take this trumped up scandal any further, the only way they can do it is by turning her SoS confirmation hearing into a dog and pony show. The GOP constantly brow beating her over a "scandal" deemed irrelevant at the public at large will probably go over about as well with women and minorities as Sotomayor's condescending questioning at her confirmation went over with latinos. The only question is which white male GOP Senator will swap out the "You got some 'splainin' to do" line with a "Oh no you dinnit, girlfriend". They won't be able to help themselves.

Except Kerry is being floated for Secretary of Defense as well. So the seat opens up anyway. Which means Republicans are just being contrary for kicks. Again.

She didn't "lie through her teeth". She read the intelligence precisely as it was presented to her. If McCain and Graham want to suddenly make repeating faulty intelligence a disqualifying event for a potential SoS, they'll need to explain why they confirmed Condoleezza Rice Rice for SoS in 2004 and why the faulty intelligence that leads to the murder of 4 Americans is a bigger offense than faulty intelligence that leads to the deaths of 4,000 in Iraq.
