I stayed a hotel once in Myrtle Beach and had to deal with rowdy guests, well...young teens specifically. It was a group of parents who brought their young teens along, girls in one room, boys in another. They were pulling pranks on each other all night long. I figured by midnight, it would stop, it didn't. So I go to one of the parents rooms and ask them to hush up their kids as it is 12:30am at this point and I would really like some sleep...the mother more or less looks at me like "what am I supposed to do?" and says, oh "kids are kids, they will tire out soon enough"

I told her to go fark herself, went down to the lobby and told the MOD that one of three things was going to happen - either they shut these kids up, they move me to a different room far away from the kids or I am leaving and going to another hotel.

They went up with security and told the kids to go to bed and scolded the parents. About 45 minutes later, the noise starts back up, and even louder this time around.

I call down to the MOD and tell her that there is a bunch of noise again and that the kids are running up and down the hallway. The hotel was booked, so they could not move us to another room, but they had another, nicer hotel about a mile away that they booked us at for the rest of our stay at the same price we were paying for the lesser expensive hotel. As the wife and I were packing up our stuff (at ~2am), one of the boys managed to break a window. Farking white trash assholes...

Went camping in the Davis Mountains of West Texas a few years back at the state park. Quiet time is 10 PM. I had my 3 yr. old daughter with us and had hiked up a nearby peak with her in a baby backpack, so I was frikkin' tired.
The camp next to us was filed with Jesus freaks, and they started singing loudly along with a boom box playing Amy Grant CDs.
After about 10 minutes of that bullshiat, I stuck my head out of the tent flap and cursed a blue streak at them. They kept playing....10 seconds later, the boom box had a catastrophic failure.(not due to me).
It was glorious. I said a silent prayer of thanks and hit the hay.

That's why I usually just go onto Craigslist and find an ad offering the services of a highly dominant bear and book him -- but to visit the offending room, taking extra care to ensure he knows all about my "Burl Ives breaks into my hotel room and repeatedly sodomizes me with a can of Rust-O-Leum despite the screaming protests of me and my wife" fetish.

Sure it's a lot noisier for a while, but it later gets *very* quiet.

Instead of refunding the quiet people, why don't they start kicking the noisy people out? Or charging them more, or whatever...?

It's not like they can avoid the big sign saying "This is a quiet hotel, noise makers will be charged double!!"

I'm always amazed at how Grandma and Grandpa Bumblefark will happily blather on, at full volume, while trying to grasp the concept that their 2nd floor room can't be found on the 3rd floor. Even when I was a kid, I knew to keep it down in hotel corridors, regardless of the time of day/night.

Because once you get known as the place where nice old people go to be quiet, you can kiss your profit margin goodbye.
Same reason they dragged their feet on the no-smoking rooms.

If this was a widespread problem where many consumers were demanding a solution, they'd create "quiet" floors and charge a premium for them.
But it's not. Which is why they guarantee a good night's sleep instead. That costs them almost nothing because loud disturbances aren't really *a problem* for most guests on most nights.

My guess: He embezzled money from the school, causing the school to be unable to pay the hotel bills, leading to their blacklisting.

This one bothers me more than kids in some ways. With kids there's an element of 'well, they don't have any concept of what it's like to just want to get a good nights sleep before that early morning train' so it makes me tolerate it a little easier. But once someone's got to middle age, they really should understand the impact of their actions.

Once had a group of 5 or more people gather in the very close vicinity of my hotel room door just after midnight for some sort of impromptu meeting. I could tell by the voices that at least 2 of them were old enough to know better. I don't know how many there were because fortunately it only went on for about 10 minutes and I was too tired to get up and see what was going on.

But I'm sure the "shush" signs will work much better on loud drunks. They would NEVER intentionally set them off.

I was in Chicago to run a race with my family and we ended up staying in a really nice hotel near the start of the race ( we had to be at our designated start corrals by 7:05). My younger brother and I ended up going out the night before the race to grab a few drinks with the other "youngsters" and as we were walking back to our rooms around 10:00 pm we noticed a bachelorette party on our floor. Notice I didn't say next door to our rooms....on the same floor.

There was weed, laughter, and all sorts of fun sounding debauchery going on and the hotel was at least 80% full of runners so I'm sure we weren't the only ones being kept up until 4:30 with squeals of delight and what sounded like a late 90's/early 00's R & B mixtape being played from a boombox. The next morning at the crack of dawn we left our rooms and in the hallway outside of the bachelorette party there were two robes, balloons, beads, and what I'm pretty sure were deflated condom balloons.

I was both angry/jealous....also tired. Very very tired.

So the hotelier has started installing noise detectors in halls, which are technologically akin to speed cameras. They go off when noise levels exceed a certain decibel, and alert guests to put a sock in it, as it were.

School trip in 6th grade to NYC. They took us to that giant toy store (I almost put giant-ass, but xkcd). Everyone bought water guns. Floor-wide war that night, guns, ice buckets, and also stink bombs thrown out the windows at hookers.

And that's how the Florence, SC gifted program got banned from a hotel in NYC. (Our room was a corner, two doors for flanking)

I kicked C-list Canadian rapper Shawn Desman and his entourage out of the Ramada in downtown Calgary about 10 years ago for deciding to have their after-party in their hotel room. After about half a dozen complaints between 10 and 1, and several warnings, I just didn't need the grief anymore.

My personal favorite line from evictees: "My dad is so-and-so and you'll get fired for this!" Heard it dozens of times over the years. Never even got so much as a phone call from "Daddy".

It's a HOTEL. Its entire purpose is based on the act of SLEEPING. Excessive noise should never be allowed, regardless of the time.

I agree that 7AM is way too early, though. In a perfect world, it would be 10pm-10AM for me.

A few years back I was channel surfing and there was a documentary on spring break. They were talking to this hotel manager and prodding him for stories about guests he's had to ban from the hotel chain. He told a story about a young lady who got up early, left for the beach, came back to the hotel a few hours later drunk as hell with 4 also drunk guys and started farking their brains out in the lobby. Lifetime ban for all involved.

If years later she ends up working for a company that does conventions, or her spouse/boyfriend decides to plan a trip, it'd be an awkward story. "Uhhh can we pick a different hotel chain?"

I hate running in to killjoys like you in a campground.. wtf.. who goes to a campground and expects everyone to put away their marshmallows and stamp out the fire at 10pm... ? I'm sure the "rowdy" crowd was probably just talking and having a good time with the radio on low. But you're probably the ass that blows everything out of proportion. If you don't like it in a public campground, then get a back country permit, and hike in a little ways to another campsite.
I especially hate when we offer the complainer a chance to join us for a beer, but they crawl back in their tent to sulk. go fark yourself!

I had a affair with a married woman who booked a room for us and told her husband she was visiting her sister. It was the first time for us and I was afraid her old man was going to find us out.
We started going at it hot and heavy and the I guess we were kinda loud .Mid farking a loud banging on the door freaked me. I didn't answer it we just cowered there.It turned out that it was some group of boys on some soccer trip. They were busting balls and running around halls. It really made me paranoid and ruined my experience.

I've dealt with noisy guests in neighboring rooms or roaming the halls. I'm more of a morning person, and lots of the events I travel for have early start times. I'm pretty tolerant up to about 11:00 p.m.

A couple of CSB's: Probably the worst was checking into a motel and settling in to bed, when their contractor started on his tile job in the hall just outside the room... at 9:30 p.m. I complained, and they moved me, but, just damn...

Staying at a place for training, where we all had to be up early. The training facility probably represented at least 4000 room nights a year to this motel (probably closer to 6000). One time, there's a cheerleading competition in town, they all show up on Thursday night and we have tests the next morning, so studying and sleep are the prime directives. The cheerleaders are just so darn cheerful. At 9:30, we start calling the desk. Night manager calls the hotel manager at home - "The training place is our bread and butter, and the guy that runs it does NOT fark around with hotels that don't treat them well. Tell the cheerleader chaperones to have them shut up, or they can find another hotel, Oh, yeah, there's a cheerleading completion in town, and every other hotel is booked. We can cut them some slack tomorrow night and Saturday night." By 10:00 it was a quiet night.
