It's a satirical jab at Korea's version of Beverly Hills. I thought everyone knew that.

/Also, a guy screaming at a woman's ass.

I can't either, but I just chalked it up to getting old.

It's fun. Its got a great beat. It's a chubby Korean dude who is willing to make fun of himself, and as A D B pointed out, likes to scream at a woman's ass.

That's pretty much it. I don't know what the big mystery is supposed to be.

Pretty sure that's Bill's problem too. The in-depth analysis came down to "It's popular because it's stupid and kids today want to be stupid".

There's only a mystery to people who can't understand why people would be entertained by something. This is the equivalent to old people complaining about the Beatles.

Pretty much. O'Reilly's bread and butter is bringing in young pop-culture references that confuse and upset his geriatric audience. Gives them a sense of moral superiority. When they were young, the songs they enjoyed were music. They know this is true because music is supposed to be enjoyable, and this crap isn't enjoyable, so it's not music. You know, "common sense." They weren't stupid mindless kids when they were stupid mindless kids.

Back then, songs had meaning with lyrics like "Bom-ma-bom, a-bom-bom-a-bom, ba-ba-bom-bom-a-bomp,b-dang-a-dang-dang, b-ding-a-dong-ding. Blue moon, blue moon, blue moon, Dip-de-dip-de-dip."

Apparently it's just not possible to enjoy things and just LIGHTEN UP AND HAVE FUN once in a while. No, Bill, everything must have some kind of meaning. I mean, I'm probably the grouchiest of grouchy people in the world and I love this song/video.

I was at a wedding over the weekend and it seems people have forgotten about the 'satirical' part. They seemed to embrace it as if it was really the 'in' thing. I weep for this country sometimes.

Bill O'Reilly is really befuddled by the popularity of "Gangnam Style"

I don't want to be like O'Really, someone remind me of all the other things he's said real quick.

2012-11-28 02:05:07 PM
"So it means nothing, but it's got a nice upbeat to it but you can do the pony and ride around," O'Reilly suggested.

"The meaning is that it means nothing," Ablow responded.

So Psy is the Seinfeld of pop music?

O__O Nice opinion, O'Reilly. Sure ain't mine.

I enjoy nice music with a nice beat. Don't give a damn about music videos. Here's some awesome instrumental rock: Trans Siberian Orchestra, 'Sabre Dance' by Love Sculpture, 'Dragon Attack' by Queen. Eat your heart out, Bill, pondering the meaning of each. Oh, and Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is also rather unique- pentatonic.

People who support the "Beverly Hills" concept, such as Bill O'Reilly, couldn't possibly understand anyone's desire to mock it or the people associated with it.

2012-11-28 02:09:41 PM
It's overanalytical, but it's a good point. It means nothing. It's simple. It's catchy. It's fun.
I didn't watch the clip, I'm assuming O'Reilly was playing the 'talk down to it, I'm better than it' role, but the result doesn't seem to be wrong.

2012-11-28 02:10:12 PM
So a song makes fun of the wealthy pretentious folks of Worst Korea. Fox news doesn't understand why we would not worship and adore the wealthy, as they do. It is confusing because it is impossible for someone to not want to be just like their betters, aka the wealthy types.

Or they just don't bother to do any research and just say whatever they want that fits into their world view.

looks like either way, they get to stay on message with this one.

2012-11-28 02:10:14 PM
It takes Gangnam Style for Bill O'Reilly to conclude that the world is tired of reality? That seems to explain the longevity of his career, too.

2012-11-28 02:10:18 PM
Here we go. Planet Money look into the K-pop industry Much more realistic than some FNC contributor.

Why not ask about the popularity of that German heavy metal band in the USA back in the late 90's? The Macarena? Various thing have been fads, and I can only presume k-pop is one of those things.

It's not realistic to include a manufactured product like Justin Bieber on that list. He is just the latest in a long string of effeminate boys that parents aren't too bothered by. Imagine the trouble you'd have if Ron Jeremy was promoted to the same market segment.

Ablow offered his mind-blowing assessment: "I think what this fellow is tapping into... is the fact that people don't want any meaning right now." He continued, "It is just is sort of like a drug and that seems to be what most people seem to want right now. Not reality, not feeling, not meaning." "So it means nothing, but it's got a nice upbeat to it but you can do the pony and ride around," O'Reilly suggested. "The meaning is that it means nothing," Ablow responded.

Were they talking about Psy or Fox News?

Hey, Bill, it isn't nonsense, it's Korean. Except when it's in English. It's a pop song that satirizes a few pretensions, and it's just some silly fun.

Congratulations, you just showed that you don't know Korean (but wrongly think it's nonsense), you don't know English, you REALLY don't know satire, and you don't know fun. And you demonstrated that you are incapable of asking a member of your staff to explain these things to you, because you are the great Bill O'Reilly, and there's nothing on this planet that someone knows that you don't know. So you have shown once again that you are a prideful, ignorant, humorless old jerk.

Hey Bill, let me put it this way.

I like the Gangham Style video because it's funny.
I occasionally watch you or Hannity because it gives me the same feeling as cutting myself without having to find a dull rusty spoon to do so.
