Doe that mean the chemistry teacher can give the kid chemical burns and claims it was an experiment? Can the biology teacher fark all the students, claiming it's an experiment?

Well, that's a relief! It sounds like a pretty boring place, actually. Suffused with the insufferable radiance of the Lord, people chanting "holy, holy, holy" nonstop, stinky incense burning everywhere, talking lambs, and filled with Christians? No thanks.

Publikwerks: Doe that mean the chemistry teacher can give the kid chemical burns and claims it was an experiment?

That's pretty much what high-school chem lab is, albeit generally unintentionally. And with more fire burns than chemical burns, as such.

Man, the level of projection going on in today's Republicans is almost shocking.

Does she really think that by supporting the party that stands for unrestricted greed, intolerance, hatred, and imperialism, all in the name of paying lipservice to freedom (by which they mean, freedom for the upper class who belong to the right social clubs, and the rural poor get thrown a few crumbs) and done under the banner of a heretical twisted version of Christianity, would make Jesus pleased?

If Jesus actually came back the way the bible says, to make war with the enemies of God, today's Republicans are the first people he'd annihilate.

Gilbert said Baker apologized to her as well, saying she considered the statement about Democrats a joke and that she put it on her board to share with a colleague and forgot to erase it.

Uh... this is high school, not university, which means I doubt you share the classroom with other teachers, so why would you have any reason to write this on the board in order to share with a colleague? Illogical excuse which conveys poor judgment while bringing to light other antagonistic issues within the classroom: why bother with this defense?

Assuming she did this to promote her own beliefs, rather than as a psych *experiment*, she was completely out-of-line (euphemism for panties-on-the-head stupid) for writing that. But I'm baffled by the use of the word "bullied" by the parent. Has "bullying" become the catch-all phrase for any kind of offensive behaviour?

That was my reading as well. The teacher is running an experiment. Not a very well controlled experiment, but one nonetheless.

Hopefully.

The election proves at least a few things:

1. You can't be a republican without believing in fantasy-land polling numbers from the right-wing media.

2. That the republican candidate just shoiwng up isn't enough to win....you actually have to have good ideas and a good message.

3. Republicans refuse to admit 1 and 2.

Darth_Lukecash: dickfreckle: Since this was a 'conservative's' comment, it won't be known by too many people. We'll gripe about it here and on some blogs. But had some teacher done the same, only substituting "Republicans" for "Democrats," it would air on FOX and Limbaugh for days.

That's the fundamental difference between Republicans and "everyone else" media. We don't really get outraged. We just kind of laugh at you and move on.

Perhaps we need a little more outrage on the liberal side of things. Because we don't throw a a fit, because we don't lockstep... We lose ground by compromising.

This teacher should be farking fired. But she won't, because her community is filled with lockstep conservatives- who will protect their backs.

No teacher should involve the students in politics...unless its current affair class.

Would you recommend she be fired for teaching about safe sex but forget to include abstinence in that discussion?

You can't go around firing people simply because they don't follow the same political philosopy as yourself. I'm not sure how religious the comment was intended or whether it was a masked variation of "Democrats can go to hell" as even non-believers are frequently referring others to. I do agree that politics have no business in the classroom- other than in a sociology or political sciences classroom and only if all sides are given equal time-- so a good reprimand may all that be in order here.

More than that and the ACLU will be in defending the teacher's 1st amendmant rights.

Shadow Blasko: Oh, Kentucky... you so Kentucky.

Glad I don't have to worry about you changing.

No, it's changing, just slowly. I can remember the days when "You can't be a bleach-blonde & go to heaven " was the prevailing sentiment in eastern Kentucky.

Considering there is no heaven, the statement is indeed true. Political affiliation does not matter, your not going there.
