I for one blame the liberals.

Clearly if they would just pay their taxes, feed their kids, and get health insurance on their own dime, the economy would recover.

The Republicans are right that there is a class war going on in this country. It's being driven by the rich and they are kicking the shiat out of the middle class and working poor

I'm due to reach a net worth of $0 in the next few months, with my mortgage and student loan (student loans are interest free in New Zealand, so you pay them off at a slow rate under a special tax code) my major liabilities and my house and retirement plan plus some other savings my major assets. It will be the first time since the age of 18 that I'll be out of negative net worth. It's taken 15 years to crawl that far. People 40 years ago certainly didn't have to deal with that kind of burden.

The delusion that "you only need to work hard and you'll be successful" will stop when other countries start outsourcing to the US for our very low wages and "favorable" (read: corrupt) regulatory environment.

THIS. Thank you. We're being turned into the next Mexico. Mexico has a tremendous amount of wealth, but it's concentrated in the hands of very few people. I wonder if the Canadians will put up a wall to keep us out when we start running into The Great White North for a better life?

Difficulty: holding a job as an employee ISN'T working hard at becoming rich.

People have been misinterpreting these stories for generations...

www.washburn.edu

...the correct moral of the story is "if you work hard enough, some rich old guy will be impressed and take you on as his protégé and teach you how to get rich, and introduce you to his beautiful young daughter and you will inherit great wealth."

If no rich guy rescues you from poverty, then you are a sinner and God hates and you deserve to suffer you contemptible pissant.

FTFA: median wealth of American households plummeted over the years 2007 to 2010, and by 2010 was at its lowest level since 1969. Meanwhile, the late 2000′s saw a high rise inequality: while the median wealth fell, the top 1 percent increased their wealth by 71 percent between 2007 and 2010

The oil companies jacked up the price of gasoline to just below pain tolerance levels. Banks started paying almost zero interest on savings. Wall Street looted workers' 401(k) accounts. All kinds of jobs are still being sent out of the country as fast as American companies can figure out ways to do it. WTF did you expect?

A bubble created by financiers for their own profit and at are expense. Are you suggesting we string up bankers, ETF and hedge fund managers, and housing speculators? That is a very radical idea DSC but I can get on board.

Yes, but it won't even be discussed on the sunday morning shows, much less debated on the House floor, until Republicans are powerless.

Income inequality was actually good back in the late 1800s. People didn't care much and the it was the government that intervened and not the Progressive Movement.

It feels today that envy, not inequality is the root of the problem. If median household wealth in the United States increased, we could face an impending natural resource shortage and scarcity caused by Americans consuming too much by an increase in household wealth. The increased wealth of the rich and the decline of wealth by the middle class is a path towards sustainability and environmental preservation. It's not prosperity, but sustainability that is important.
