Psycho IV told the story of young Norman (Henry Thomas), and I do remember Bates Motel (1987). Not very original but at least it got the fella with the eyeliner from Lost and The Dark Knight Rises!!! It'll be something to watch, cant get by with just The Walking Dead.

Maybe they'll revisit one of the three novels....As much as I like the movie, Hitchcock was right when he called the book "3rd rate pulp trash" But I did watch the 1980's movie with Lori Petty in it where Norman had died in the Asylum and left his motel to his roommate.

Wonderful, so we'll get a bunch of flashbacks featuring child abuse to establish a modern monster.

Why not just make a third version of Red Dragon?

Probably just a lot of Mother screaming at Norman, maybe making him wear a dress, and no doubt Norman killing birds and stuffing them.

In retrospect, yes. But remember that Hitchcock released only one trailer for the film, which had no scenes from the film in it; only Hitch telling you how scary it was. And when you're watching it for the first time, it appears to be a B-grade caper film about a girl who's stolen some money.

Then it takes one of the biggest left turns in movie history.

Orgasmatron138: I was incredibly lucky - I did not know anything about this movie the first time I saw it.

I knew the shower scene, and that Bates was the killer, but nothing else really.

Actually sitting down and watching the movie when I was 12 or 13 was a really enlightening experience. There's a whole film that takes place around the shower scene, and it's not what you expect.

I have a weird dislike of Hitchcock films, probably to do in large part with his dislike of shooting in anything resembling a real location when something could be faked on a soundstage. They're like watching a filmed version of a stage play, and everything seems to have had the life sucked out of it. Psycho is the best of the lot I've seen.

But I'll sit and watch North by Northwest (which I think is the best of the rest) anytime I have the chance. It's completely improbably, but perfectly structured and constructed. Cary Grant is likewise the best star for his films.

I was reminded tonight that that excellent-looking Hitchcock biopic with Anthony Hopkins is coming out.

Very early Oscar prediction:
Hopkins wins again for playing Hitch
Wes Anderson wins best director
The Master gets shut out of everything except Screenplay, which it wins, but the Oscar inexplicably reads "Mankowitz."

Forgot about that, but they did just give it to him for There Will be Milkshakes.

Hopkins and Lewis both go on the short list, without question.

I really think giving PT Anderson the screenplay Oscar for The Master would be the ultimate fark-you, as.... well, Citizen Kane (Spelled the poor man's name wrong).

His rear projection shots certainly strain disbelief in the modern era. I know that I enjoyed the experiment of "Rope" as a movie in one continuous take, but was distracted by the lighting and time passing outside the window. I suggest Notorious as a great Hitchcock film.

Also, The Master deserves to be shut out from everything, as it was truly crummy, except for the drunk guy screwing the fat girl at the end. If it wins for screenplay that will be truly astonishing. The plot was for crap. Seymour Hoffman was pretty decent though.
