trashbox: Looks like something that should be on CW.
thornhill: Plot summary from IMDB: This film intends to give viewers an intimate understanding of how Norman Bates' psyche developed from his childhood through his teen years.Did this people bother to watch Psycho? It's pretty clear why Norman is the way he is.
sovietski: Agreed. The movie is titled Psycho. Obvious movie title is obvious.

It could be Norman Bates' theme song. That's the only track I ever skip on Synchronicity.
Dwight_Yeast: sovietski: Agreed. The movie is titled Psycho. Obvious movie title is obvious. In retrospect, yes. But remember that Hitchcock released only one trailer for the film, which had no scenes from the film in it; only Hitch telling you how scary it was. And when you're watching it for the first time, it appears to be a B-grade caper film about a girl who's stolen some money. Then it takes one of the biggest left turns in movie history.
Grand PBUH: So they are going to explain how he was crazy because of a high midichlorian count?
Orgasmatron138: I was incredibly lucky - I did not know anything about this movie the first time I saw it.
Dwight_Yeast: Orgasmatron138: I was incredibly lucky - I did not know anything about this movie the first time I saw it.I knew the shower scene, and that Bates was the killer, but nothing else really.Actually sitting down and watching the movie when I was 12 or 13 was a really enlightening experience. There's a whole film that takes place around the shower scene, and it's not what you expect.I have a weird dislike of Hitchcock films, probably to do in large part with his dislike of shooting in anything resembling a real location when something could be faked on a soundstage. They're like watching a filmed version of a stage play, and everything seems to have had the life sucked out of it. Psycho is the best of the lot I've seen. But I'll sit and watch North by Northwest (which I think is the best of the rest) anytime I have the chance. It's completely improbably, but perfectly structured and constructed. Cary Grant is likewise the best star for his films.I was reminded tonight that that excellent-looking Hitchcock biopic with Anthony Hopkins is coming out.Very early Oscar prediction:Hopkins wins again for playing HitchWes Anderson wins best directorThe Master gets shut out of everything except Screenplay, which it wins, but the Oscar inexplicably reads "Mankowitz."
karnal: kroonermanblackWhy does it matter? It's a movie set in a famous property. It's a retelling along modern themes, with modern mores. Or do you think the people going to see it are the same ones who went to see the original in theatre release? As long as its good, and uses the IP well, who gives a shiat. That fact that you think there is a chance it might be good is funny....and sad.
propasaurus: No way Hopkins wins. Day-Lewis wins for Lincoln.
Dwight_Yeast: propasaurus: No way Hopkins wins. Day-Lewis wins for Lincoln.Forgot about that, but they did just give it to him for There Will be Milkshakes.Hopkins and Lewis both go on the short list, without question.I really think giving PT Anderson the screenplay Oscar for The Master would be the ultimate fark-you, as.... well, Citizen Kane (Spelled the poor man's name wrong).
