I think I heard maybe three of those songs this year.

List fails without Cher Llyod's "Want U Back" which needs to be on a best song list not because it's good, but because I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD!

2012-11-27 09:09:17 PM
That was an impressive load of fail even a site run by people who eat Paste.

I have really gt to start tapping into Soundcloud and Bandcamp

2012-11-27 09:26:52 PM
i actually like this list, tracks from a couple of my favorite albums came in high on the list, probably would have chosen different tracks from most of them though.

2012-11-27 09:39:34 PM
Well thatwas big ol' list of obscure stuff I've never heard of and will ,probably never hear of again, mixed in with Kanye and Leonard Cohen to try to appear cool.

interestingly, they embedded music players underneath each entry that will let you instantly listen to the song, that way you can discover new music even if it's from bands you've never heard of!

So... this all ends with a list of the best lists of the year, right?

This is not a good early contender.

2012-11-27 10:35:04 PM
Whew...I was a bit concerned I only knew one of the songs on that list. Glad to see I'm not alone.

2012-11-27 10:35:11 PM
Amanda Palmer's album didn't have a song in the top 50? Wrong.

2012-11-27 10:36:47 PM
I like that Japandroids are on there, but I would have gone with "Evil's Sway" or "Continuous Thunder" instead.

Some of my other favorites:
Fiona Apple- "Periphery"
The Menzingers- "Mexican Guitars"
Broadway Calls- "You Got Me"
Bob Mould- "The Descent" (my personal pick for song of the year)
Corin Tucker Band- "Kill My Blues"
The Men- "Turn It Around"
Screaming Females- "It All Means Nothing"
Cloud Nothings- "Wasted Days"

2012-11-27 10:37:08 PM
WTF? No FREEBIRD?

This list SUCKS!

2012-11-27 10:38:17 PM
I haven't heard of most of that, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Little Talks so high on the list. I love that song.

Perfume Genius! Love that album.

fark Passion Pit.

/That is all

2012-11-27 10:46:37 PM
LOL, trying to be hip I see. FYI Justin Bieber won the american music awards artist of the YEAR, and not one of his songs are on here?? Obviously the best artist is going to have some of the best songs, hello Paste. More like Waste haha.

Apart from those two, Jack White and Fiona Apple are the only other artists on the list I've even heard of.

2012-11-27 10:48:47 PM
I liked how they had Kanye at #49 indicating early I had no further need to read the list. Hey Paste pussies, if you want readership stop using committee assholes to compile lists. The thing reads like focus-group projectile vomit.

Glad they have something by Father John Misty on there.
"Fear Fun" is easily the album of the year.

For about 3 months that was the first song that my daughter would put on the iPod in the car. The only reason she stopped is because the car adapter thingy broke and we don't use it any more.

thomps: i actually like this list, tracks from a couple of my favorite albums came in high on the list, probably would have chosen different tracks from most of them though.

Agreed. I only know a handful of songs on there, but I was expecting a top 10 list of Justin Bieber, that freak that looks like a Gremlin and the rest of their pals that play on that station I never listen to.

There are actually a few songs on there I have to check out......

2012-11-27 10:57:49 PM
I've only heard 2 or 3 of the songs on that list.

2012-11-27 10:58:44 PM
No Kendrick Lamar? No Patterson Hood? Heartless Bastards? Shovels and Rope? Avett Brothers? Trampled By Turtles? Gary Clark, Jr.?

FAIL

Third_Uncle_Eno: "Fear Fun" is easily the album of the year.

Thanks for the recommendation. Sounds great so far.

I like these threads - lots of new music to try.

Old. Not the list, I mean me. I have heard of exactly 3 of these artists, Kanye, Fiona and Jack White. I guess I could check out some of these othe...ahh screw it. I'm off to listen to some David Allan Coe.

2012-11-27 11:06:23 PM
List fails without Brendon Small's Galaktikon.

I'm partial to Deathwaltz.

2012-11-27 11:09:52 PM
Hmm, I'm familiar with 6 of these and only like 4 of those.

2012-11-27 11:13:30 PM
I only like music so new that the bands don't have names yet and the songs have never been recorded.

2012-11-27 11:22:08 PM
is that some hipster website? never heard of 99% of them

2012-11-27 11:22:47 PM
Alabama Shakes made the top ten. I'm happy.

2012-11-27 11:23:37 PM
*Reads list* Goes back to listening to the New Kid Rock album. What? I like the bluesy country rock type of sound.

Respect Leonard Cohen, but just have never been able to get into him.

2012-11-27 11:32:13 PM
No Wintersun. This list is utter shiat.

2012-11-27 11:35:25 PM
They strangely got the wrong track off of the new Titus Andronicus album. Upon Viewing Oregon.... is infinitely better. Really like the Purity Ring album - nice to see it represented. Yes, everyone and their mother is in love with Japandroids. They mostly deserve it; that album is pretty great. Very surprised not to see a track off of the new Bat for Lashes album... "Laura" is one of the best songs of the year, no two ways about it.

/Favorite track of the year unrepresented - "Capricornia" by Allo' Darlin

2012-11-27 11:35:36 PM
I'm about halfway through listening to snippets of these, and every last one has been goddawful.

Were there any?

//had to go there

Wait, they actually released Time? The Chinese Democracy of extreme metal finally saw the light of day? I'm almost scared to go listen to it.

2012-11-27 11:46:26 PM
Guess what guys, good music ain't on the radio, that's why your old asses haven't heard of these tracks.

Representative of the unwashed masses: *Reads list* Goes back to listening to the New Kid Rock album. What? I like the bluesy country rock type of sound.

Respect Leonard Cohen, but just have never been able to get into him.

Well then go back to the list one more time and this time pay closer attention to Alabama Shakes. Seriously.

For anyone else looking to hit the highlights of that list but who hasn't heard of any of the bands, hit: Japandroids, Of Monsters and Men, Alabama Shakes, The Shins, Sleigh Bells, and then maybe Purity Ring if you want something really different.

I don't get what people see in Big City. One of the worst songs on a very disappointing album

hmmm... Could grow on me, or get tired like the Sheepdogs did. 50/50 on that one...

I listen to Canadian Indie music, and there were a few examples on that list. Just none that I would consider the best.

No Gojira or Testament?

2012-11-28 12:05:06 AM
No "Call Me Maybe"?

2012-11-28 12:05:53 AM
Oh, and because it's obligatory in these threads, I should also point out that the list fails for lack of Silversun Pickups, Metric, Muse, and for going out of the way to leave Mumford and Sons off.
