The Cowboys are 8-4 right now. If they win a couple more of their games, they will have just about exceded everyone's expectations, including I think Parcells. It's a nice season to build on, but they still need a few more pieces.

Commercials are a turn-off for me and football. Yeah I still watch it, but I'm starting to notice that games that used to end at 5pm (I'm in Atlantic time, an hour ahead of Eastern), now end at 5:15. I know the NFL got a shiateload of money from the networks, and the networks have to profit from it, but seriously, how much does the NFL need?

I'm all for the NFL adopting some CFL rules, mainly the rule that allows offensive players to move however they please before the snap, none of that one man in motion crap. Also, the no fair catch rule (that's always been in the CFL) with a 5 yard buffer zone would make punt returns exciting (KC fans would love that rule). On top of that, punts in the CFL are live balls and can be claimed by either team.

3 downs? Noone south of the border would go for that.

Waiting for someone to get fined for making the timeout hand gesture.

2003-12-06 12:23:29 AM
Er.. correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't they just ban attacking and not.. high-fiving? If you are so violent that you can't handle people high-fiving each other without going ape-shiat, maybe you shouldn't be in high-emotions situations like that.

But seriously, I don't have a problem with fining for the "throat slash" move. If you want to dance, so be it, fine, but this is a little over the top. On the other hand, I don't want to see any of the bullshiat the Washington Indigenous Drainage Basin Persons pulled in the mid 80's, where it looked like friggin' "Solid Gold" in the end zone.

Christ, did I just reference "Solid Gold"?

I haven't seen a reference that obscure since Dennis Miller and William F. Buckley debated String Theory while getting "blumpkined" backstage at the "Formerly the Warlocks" show at Hampton '89 Fall Tour....

Dallas sucks, America's Team is a joke.

and if you couldn't tell already, I'm an Eagles fan. A quiet Eagles fan. So stfu.

Farkin Cowgirls.

Every person who says the NFL sucks is a card carrying homosexual. Except for girls. They're just biatches.

(that is all)

``I hope I win these next two, or I'll give them something to fine me about,'' he said.

That's the right attitude. If you're gonna get penalized, make it farking worthwhile.

GO TITANS!!! We're going all the way this year!

Dallas...America's Crackwagon

Well at least the NFL isn't letting wife-beating, drug-pushing, child-abusing, drunks into their stadiums. Oh wait, Oakland still has a team.

2003-12-06 01:04:50 AM
I hope they finally do the right thing and start fining and expelling fans who have the nerve to cheer. We can't have people attaching any emotional involvement to anything - we must be a numb, passified culture of apathetic sheep.

2003-12-06 01:29:02 AM
There is a very good example of what happens when refs don't call taunting when they should:

Terrell Owens in Dallas

What happens? A bench-clearing brawl.

They have it about correct now. Players can be excited, but keep it reasonable.

2003-12-06 01:31:55 AM
A vote for the NFL is a vote for crime.Drugs ,thugs and untold criminal and immoral behavoir.Lets keep it up America.

The Cowboys are 8-4 right now. If they win a couple more of their games, they will have just about exceded everyone's expectations, including I think Parcells.
What? Holy crap, did ANYONE predict them going 8-4 in their first 12 games? Heck, did anyone see them even ending up at .500? No Cowboys fan here, and IMO they've benefitted greatly from a piss poor schedule (just like KC... but KC's actually good, Dallas... well, I don't see them advancing in the playoffs, assuming they go).

Anyway, it doesn't matter. College football is far better than the NFL. ;)

2003-12-06 01:34:37 AM
I don't watch much football, but does anybody agree that college games are more fun to watch than pro games?

Rolle is right. Unless you played the game, you have no idea how emotional something could get. I can see the throat slashing. Kids watch, thats not something you want to pass down to pee-wee levels. But high fiving? So its ok for fans in the stands to do it, but if you play the game you can't cheer? I doubt they are thinking "better not celebrate, better not high five, ect ect". Its a game. Let them play. Its almost as bad as not keeping score during a little league game. Its A GAME. People win. Others will lose. Life is weird like that...

2003-12-06 01:36:14 AM
BTW: They're getting to be a bit excessive with the celebration flags... in the pros and in college.

2003-12-06 01:39:26 AM
bmihura
Yes they are. Sure, the NFL "looks" prettier, but college games provide more excitement IMO, and the potential of REAL upsets.

2003-12-06 01:49:08 AM
Add one more to the voice of people who think college football is infinitly better than NFL schit.

2003-12-06 01:57:51 AM
Starting to suck

But where else can you find big hairy men wearing tight spandex who just wants to give you a hug!?

2003-12-06 01:57:52 AM
Besides, college actually allows you to mingle with the players... you have the chance of having classes with these athletes and interacting with them. Good luck doing that with NFL players.

2003-12-06 02:07:55 AM
Go Steelers! They may suck royally, but at least they're not the dumbest team in America! Woo!

Yeah, I'm done.

GO TITANS!!! We're going all the way this year!

Uhhh, correct me if I'm wrong here, but don't you mean "You're going all the way this year!" ? Unless you're on the roster. Then, hey, good luck.

2003-12-06 02:17:44 AM
Whatever it takes to make them stop. Every dumbshiat player in the NFL acts like he won the lottery after making a routine play. Stop dancing jackass, you just did your job.

2003-12-06 02:18:48 AM
And yeah, college football > NFL

2003-12-06 02:22:03 AM
Then switch the channel over to wrestling where you'll see Chris Benoit and Taz do that same throat slash gesture for huge bucks! Irony defined. ;-)

2003-12-06 02:29:17 AM
At least New orleans is getting an AFL team this year, the voodoo. Its still owned by Tom benson, but can it suck worse than the saints? I think not .... and it should be cheaper, like 15- 20 to get in vs. 70- 100 for Saints.
Could we 86 the Brooks please !

2003-12-06 02:30:33 AM
The move to stop the showboating wouldn't be needed if the players had some farking maturity. A throat-slash gesture? In this day of gang-banging idiots who kill people because they got "dissed," I have no problem with rules banning crap like this.

Note to football players: Scoring touchdowns, making great tackles, recovering fumbles, making interceptions and acrobatic catches is your friggin' JOB. I don't see the guy at Kinko's spike a stapler every time he hits the Start button on a copy machine.

Best end-zone celebrations: Lambeau Leap, 'cuz it was all about the fans. Mile-High Salute, 'cuz it was deliberately understated. And even if he was a jerk about the way he left the Lions, Barry Sanders' simple toss of the ball to the official was the epitome of class. (In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a Broncos fan, and I'm from Detroit.)

BTW, college ball is BORING. It's either 3 yards and a cloud of turf all afternoon, or its a 500 - 3 game. IMO, natch. :)

2003-12-06 06:08:50 AM
Have you ever seen Walter Payton dancing in the end zone like a doped up idiot after a touchdown? How about Emmitt Smith? Jim Brown?

The answer is no and that is because they were all PROFESSIONALS, unlike the current bunch of uneducated players.

I blame Mark Gastinneau(sp)with his stupid sack dance that started all this celebrating after plays. Maybe we could blame Chi Chi Rodriguez and his little zorro motion after a sinked putt for all of this.

The worst part about watching football on TV is the likes of Baldinger, Green, Simms, Theismann, and Madden.

For the people who have been complaining about the NFL: Soccer doesn't have any commercials for 45 minutes and then a maximum of 15 minutes in the break before another 45 minutes of uninterrupted action. That's 90 minutes of action to 15 minutes of adverts. Maybe you're watching the wrong sport?

Of course, soccer sucks, but at least it's not one big advertisement. :P

what do you mean starting to suck? the nfl and nascar are just big money making machines scared shiatless to offend any potential sponsor. try getting nascar to tell you the truth, that nextel radios don't work worth a shiat - i know, i have one.

2003-12-06 10:31:51 AM
I'm surprised nobody mentioned that it cost him $12,500 for nothing. Turned out that after all his celebrating, he never had possession of the ball inbounds. The Jets called for the challanege and the play on the field was overturned. So it cost him $12,500, his team half the distance to the goal, a new set of downs and Curtis Martin TD from 6 yards out. All and all I'd say he looked like a jackass from my seat in section 312.

As far as the fining goes, I think sometimes the calls are overzealous for excessive celebration, that said though I think the throat slash is completely unacceptable. Personally I miss shiat like spiking the ball and stupid dances like the Icky shuffle, the stuff that was fun. Some kids do actually watch this shiat, and players acting like jackasses are just one of many negative projections kids absorb. I also think that all these players thanking God after a TD or making the sign of the cross before taking the plate is complete bullshiat too, maybe my opinion would be different if they weren't ripping lines with prostitutes on the weekends. So to recap, celebrating and a small amount of trash talk == good, acting like a complete jackass and celebrating accomplishments that didn't occur == bad.

GO TITANS!!! We're going all the way this year!

If history is a gauge, you're not. No team that has lost a regular season game to the Jets has gone to the super bowl. I may be mistaken and the useless "fact" is that no team that has lost to the Jets has ever won the superbowl. Either way it doesn't look good for the Titans.

2003-12-06 10:33:25 AM
Anyone ever seen the first 10 minutes of Baseketball? Hilarious when they start to do the "Lord of the Dance" line dance in the endzone...that's good stuff :)

2003-12-06 10:43:17 AM
``I'm pushing $20,000 by some people who've never run out of a tunnel before and don't know the emotions that the game is played under,'' Rolle said. ``They're taking the fun away.''

Check me if I'm wrong, Sandy, but doesn't Gene Washington hand out the fines in the NFL? The Gene Washington who was a wide receiver for the 49ers?

Typical modern-day NFL player - no sense of history whatsoever. The NFL came into existence the day before he was drafted.

And I would think a throat-slash gesture, or even an actual slashed throat, would be the most innocuous thing an NFL player probably did in the last couple of weeks.

But Playmakers is overblown. Okay, fine.

Starting to suck? It has sucked for quite a while.

College football rulez.

BarnacleBill: Couldn't agree more. I want to punch people in the face for saying "WE'RE SO GOOD." No. Your favorite team is good. This does not make you a better person than me by association.

Until you own the team or play for them, ESS TEE EFF YOU.

You have to admit, though, it's farking hilarious to watch a lineman high-stepping it into the end zone after a recovered fumble.

No, 1% of $50,000 is $500.

Just like 1% of $750,000 is $7500.
