2003-12-05 05:29:49 PM
$5,000 for the throat gesture and $7,500 for the high five.

2003-12-05 05:48:29 PM
Man, the Fun Bunch isn't going to like that at all.

2003-12-05 05:56:35 PM
That's pocket change to him.

something has got to stop these overpayed morons from acting like complete asshats when they complete the simplest of plays....the incursion of european players in the NBA seems to be fixing some their hot dogging problems.

Starting to suck?
where have you been the last five or so years?

2003-12-05 11:06:10 PM

2003-12-05 11:06:49 PM
ditto what icepal said - STARTING to suck???

2003-12-05 11:08:04 PM
These flags for unsportsmanlike and unnecessary celebration are starting to piss me off, especially in college ball. They are really getting out of hand. Jesus Christ, let them play ball. It's bad enough we have to endure an asston of commercials, but to lengthen the game with stupid penalties is even worse.

Refs need to get a freakin life.

2003-12-05 11:08:08 PM
Let me see if I get this right....

He gets fine $12,500 by the NFL, so they can use the money to pay his salary increase.

2003-12-05 11:08:12 PM
Come on...it's a game for G-d's sake..a violent one, at that. So to expect for the players to turn on and off their aggro tendencies at the sound of a whistle is asking a little much. So if the worse thing they do after legally beating the Schott out of each other is making a throat slash..well, then so what, big deal.

2003-12-05 11:08:16 PM
STARTING to suck? Is this article from the day when football was conceived, because it's always sucked.

2003-12-05 11:08:42 PM
GO TITANS!!! The Colts are in for it this Sunday.

2003-12-05 11:11:23 PM
As long as the game isn't being delayed, why care? I always thought it was part of the appeal of football.

Oh, well. If they're so hell bent on stopping the behavior, penalty yards would probably work better than monetary fines.

2003-12-05 11:13:41 PM
Whooptie Doo. All it means is that he's gotta eat in tonight.

2003-12-05 11:14:39 PM
It's a game for the fans.

For the players, it's a JOB. So the should just do their job, and stop being jack-asses already.

Players have gotten way too childish these days. Take a look at some classic NFL film, and compare it to today's games, and you'll see what I mean.

This reminds me of those sweltering summers I was in the fields for 14 hours a day, picking cotton for the master.

Signed,
Warren Sapp

The throat slash is the fun part? Did I miss a meeting?
I thought the great play was the fun part.
I thought knowing that you were playing with some of the greatest players ever and competing with them at this level was the fun part.
I thought the teamwork required to make a great play was the fun part.

The only way this guy can have fun is to intimate that he is going to slash somebody else's throat? If throat slashing is the fun part of football, the NFL is starting to suck.

2003-12-05 11:17:39 PM
They want to celebrate after scoring a touchdown, go nuts. As long as it avoids the excesses of the mid to late 80s, let them spike the ball and high 5.

What I'm sick of are players dancing around like monkeys every time they make an average play. Wow, you tackled somebody. Go back to the farking huddle. Wow, you ran three yards up the middle. Go back to the farking huddle. Start fining them for each instance of that, and the players will owe the teams money by the end of the year.

2003-12-05 11:18:02 PM
Sorry, but the NFL has sucked for a long time, unless you have insomnia. They charge too much, they pay their players too much, and the SuperBowl is almost always a yawn.

CFL is North America's finest football. You can afford to go see the games, the players are pros and are caught with drugs far less often, and the games are almost always entertaining to the last seconds.

2003-12-05 11:18:45 PM
Oh yeah, back in the old days of the NFL..all they did was bite each others fingers in the pile ups...kick each other betwwen plays...head club with pieces of metal hidden inside of fake casts...real civilized.

2003-12-05 11:18:56 PM

Well, there's always the good old standby....oh wait....

That's not 'playing ball' - that's called taunting. And it leads to fights. That's why the rule is there. Let me put it this way. You go ref the game when a bunch 300 lb. linemen decide to start a fight because somebody started taunting somebody else.

Nip it in the bud, that's what the refs are trying to do. Before they (the refs) get hurt.

If you can't get hyped about the fact that you made a great play without taunting somebody else, then you should probably just get out of the game.

Fark the Titans.

Go Colts!

2003-12-05 11:22:58 PM
The NFL had better address their commercials problem. The games are unwatchable. We're always switching to Discovery Channel or something and forgetting about the game.

Ever actually go to a pro game? In the cold? Every single person in the stadium -- fans, players, refs, coaches, workers -- stands around staring at nothing and doing nothing about 90% of the time. Waiting for unseen commercials to end. It SUCKS.

It's by far the #1 problem football faces, and they better address it.

"NFL starting to suck: Samari Rolle fined $7,500 for high-fiving teammate"

Yup, tis, true. Time to go back to cricket, the ultim ... aw who am I kidding ? I bet if the headline writer was on fire, this player wouldn't even piss on you to put the fire out. Him being fined $12,500 is likeyou dropping a penny on the ground.

Sorry, I'll save my sympathy for someone who loses their job from downsizing, or some real tragedy. I'll take my football sans sympathy for some crybaby. If he don't like it, he can switch jobs for my McJob.

***high fives myself***

I played Football in Jr High and LaCrosse throughout high school and college. Taunting/talking shiat/whatever you call it is part of the game, like just about every other sport, and we had sticks to beat the crap out of each other. If you can't take it and ignore it, then you are in the wrong profession. Granted, fights occassionally break out, but never once did I see anyone get penalized for talking shiat. Grow up.

Still, I wished they'd penalize the goofy Bomber receiver endzone 'dance'. And I'm a Bomber fan, despite our sucking so bad. But if it allows (forgotten has-been QB) to spike a football after a TD and have it bounce back hard into his nads, I'm all for it. :)

Actually, tv football is still pretty good.

The biggest problem in tv football right now is that a game that used to take 2 hours 30 years ago, 2 1/2 hours after the first year of Monday football, 3 hours 5 years ago, NOW takes over 3 1/2 hours. WTF is that? I know that the networks paid the big bucks, especially CBS to get football back, but come on. Geez. 3 1/2 hours?

It's the same farking thing with pro basketball, too. I can't even watch basketball anymore and I was one of their biggest fans, even before Jordan. A 2 hour pro basketball game in 1983 was a long game. We used to go to the Stadium every night. The game started at 7:35 and we almost always left the Stadium before 9:30. We ALWAYS got home (30 minute ride) before the 10:20 sports report to see the replays, even in an overtime game. The LAST game I saw was scheduled for 7:30, didn't start until 7:55 and was over until almost 11:00, and this was on a Tuesday night.

Bullshiat.

You're taunting somebody and you're telling me to "grow up"?

NFL SUCKS

GO LEAFS, This is the year.

2003-12-05 11:36:51 PM
The one came after the other. It's a bit excessive and childish.

...but then again, one can't really expect football players to be terribly intelligent, can one?

2003-12-05 11:44:57 PM
Some of these guys take it too far, and definetly over celebrate, but cmon. Like after a normal tackle or a bullshiat play, you make an ass out of yourself. But if you've just done something big in the game, if you *didn't* celebrate like a madman, fans would hate you. Sapp can be a jackass like 99% of the time, but he's right on one thing; I also think the fact that they can't take their helmets off after a big play (yeah, like Emmitt used to do) is crap. I could recognize a picture of everyone on my favorite baseball team, and the main coaches. I can only recognize a few on my favorite football team. Oh yeah, that 5 second 'intro' on MNF really does it for me.

Unsportsmanlike conduct on the offense: Happiness after scoring a touchdown. 15 yards from the previous spot, automatic 4th down.

2003-12-05 11:47:29 PM
big deal. 7500 is most likely less than 1% of annual salary.

poster = whiner.

2003-12-05 11:49:02 PM
Look, I don't mind when the football players do a little celebrating after a pick, a big sack, some important play in the game, or a TD, but I do mind when some linebacker or DB tackles some dude after he has already run for 15 yards and he is already heading for the sidelines and they act like they have made the biggest play of their career.

2003-12-05 11:51:21 PM
I hate everybody that says football sucks and has no reason. Why does it suck, because you personally don't like it? I'm sure you have hobby's that I don't particularly enjoy, but I don't think you suck because you enjoy that particular hobby.

2003-12-05 11:52:05 PM
it is a game!! the throat thing is against the rules, but come on, a high five??? like you all don't get excited when there is a britney link here on fark.

Cowboys sb bound!!

2003-12-05 11:53:24 PM
Just so I am clear. This was the play where he thought he'd made an interception in the end zone, but he didn't? Then he came out after and made the slashing motion (I think another player made the slashing motion, too).

Not only did he not get the interception (he bobbled the ball), but the offense got the ball half the distance to the goal and a first down because of his penalty, they scored to take the lead in the game, and the guy has to pay a large fine? Sweet justice.

$7500 may be only 1% of his annual salary, but that's like a $500 parking ticket to somebody who makes $50,000. Think of it that way.

The Cowboys better get their shiat together. They were playing extremely well, Parcells is better prepared in the early season than ANY OTHER COACH. But now, they don't have the same edge.
