Dwight_Yeast: Need_MindBleach: The filmscore is never finished by the time the trailer comes out.

Often not completed on a major film, but usually you have some major themes done for the trailer.

Don't forget that trailer for Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (coincidentally enough, the film from which Man Of Steel cribbed the trailer music) had to use the theme from Requiem for a Dream.

I really wish these people would stop over-designing superhero outfits.

Getting rid of the speedos was a good idea ... but the faux-kevlar texture, the cuffs, the strange lines in the body, what looks like a broach where a belt buckle should be, and washed out color all serve to make this Superman look terrible. The Super-Abs thing isn't any better than Bat-Nipples, either.

And what's with the perm? Is Superman going to a disco after he saves Metropolis from a gang of boom-box-weilding street toughs on roller skates?

You know, I honestly don't remember if I saw the trailer for that or not (I remember seeing the film in the theater).

But I'm sure you're right; they were so close to the wire on finishing that film that they were editing in NZ and sending the cut scenes to London for recording at Abbey Rd on Tuesday. There's a great feature about in on the expanded edition; they were using iPods to get the video from the end of their broadband link to the recording studio; if their PA had been mugged, they would have been sunk.

Great, so his movie costume now resemble the comic book costume from New 52.

I think the costume from the movie came first; hasn't it been in production for like 2 years?

Here's the trailer - the Requiem for a Dream music starts around minute 2.

/Famously, the producers of the 1977 Superman only had three things when they put out the teaser trailer for that film: John Williams' Superman theme, a POV f/x shot of Superman flying through the clouds, and the tagline: You'll believe a man can fly.

As long as they don't recycle the John Williams theme, I'll be happy. If they do that, they might as well film this movie on nitrate stock.

Meh. Superman is a stupid character anyway with a stupid name. He's just so super!

The costume is stupid as long as there is a cape. He doesn't use it for anything and doesn't need it for aerodynamics. It is a liability in a fight.

Superman had a chance when he could leap tall buildings and was bulletproof, but then they just added more and more powers and degrees of invulnerability.

But at least we are getting another Superman movie, because we really need that. I haven't been this excited about a movie since the Spider-Man reboot we waited so long for.

He uses it for lots of stuff... You clearly have never read/watched anything Superman related ever.

Also, the guy can travel at lightsppeed, the fark are you talking about aerodynamics?

Yeah, the invulnerable guy who can walk on the sun and move at lightspeed will have a "liablity" with a cape. Do you even think before typing?

I guess we can also add 'fabulousness' to his ever growing list of powers.

Shadowknight: I actually don't mind the New52 look. The belt at least breaks up the line a bit. The solid blue armored unitard thing (armotard?) is weird just because you're expecting to see something there besides man-bulge.

This.
The belt is a great stand-in for the speedo. The blue unitard is just bad design. It's unbalanced.

Carth: Why would superman need to wear armor? Isn't he basically indestructible except for a really rare (or common) meteor?

I thought the same thing, but the hubby brought up a good point that Superman would need a suit that could stand up to harsh conditions and extreme wear without tearing apart. So I can accept that. I guess.

He looks like Superman from Earth 23 or other odd number.
They'll stick with this look until the next reboot.

I agree. You need something to break up the eye line.

He uses it to store his civilian clothes in a hidden pocket and as a protective blanket when he's carrying someone in flight to keep them from freezing at high altitude and getting wind burn from air friction.

It really needed something to break up that drab costume in the middle besides penis. This isn't at "Big Blue Penis Movie" levels, but it's close. The red belt shown up thread would have been a decent add on.
As is, the suit looks scaly shoddy Aquaman knock off. Don't really care for it.  I'll wait for it to hit netflix.

Don't get me wrong, I think the new suit is silly. But it's not enough to make me poo-poo the movie as a whole. I think it looks slick from the teaser (contrails and sonic boom).

I admit, I like a good Superman tale. And unfortunately, outside of maybe the original movie with Reeve, we really haven't had a decent live action adaptation. And even as good as Reeve was, the story itself was kind of silly (real estate scams, idiotic abuses of his powers...). I would love to see a live action version of the Manchester Black storyline, or the Justice League's "Tower of Babel" book. One where Superman is the obvious heavy, but not unbeatable, and Batman is a cold but scarily efficient mind capable of taking down even the strongest of heroes and villains out of sheer cunning.

Hollywood would find a way to make it bad, I'm sure, but it would be cool to watch.

RexTalionis: Shadowknight: If you wanted to make a new, "realistic" super-suit that a guy like him is likely to put together, a pair of BDUs and a T-shirt would likely be what he would do. He is a Kansas farm boy, after all.

So what you're looking for is something akin to the Superboy design.

I thought that he gave off a very short range field of invulnerability, which caused his suit to be as resistant to abuse as he was. Or at least I know I've read that in some comics.

It looks ridiculous.
Now the movie will bomb, and the studio will whine and wonder why.

Because you can't change an icon. It's an icon for a reason. Changing it makes it no longer the icon.

Are people really so stupid that they don't understand that?

Looks like he just walked in on something he wasn't expecting, something disgusting and yet oddly arousing to him...
