Saying "I like to get trashed on weekends" is not the same as admitting to being an alcoholic.

Still wondering if there's any way the state legislators that voted for it could all get indicted under the federal "conspiracy against civil rights" law.

(Convicted and jailed seems really unlikely, I'm afraid....)

While I think it's clearly true, simply using Occam's Razor, Jim Greer is about as impeachable a source as you're going to find.

He needs useful info for a plea deal. He doesn't have it so he makes ridiculous shiat up.

Look to the corroborating evidence and forget anything that comes out of Greer's fat pie hole.

Now we just have to get Democrats to admit that supporting voter fraud was the reason they were against the new law and everyone can be all happy because they were honest.

The only problem that they see is that obviously they didn't cheat enough, since it didn't work.

Next up: all the swing states with GOP-controlled statehouses (Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Penn, Wisconsin, etc.) are going to try to divvy up their electoral votes by congressional district, since they've already done such a smashing job gerrymandering those states in their own favor.

I will bet money that this is the next big thing that ALEC will be telling GOP state legislators to do over the next four years.

I will grant you that there was one confirmed case of voter fraud this election cycle. There were also cases of election workers illegally altering ballots, registration drives illegally throwing out registration cards, and state officially illegally modifying voting machine software, in addition to other improprieties.

As far as I can ascertain, however, every single one of these illegal and/or improper activities was perpetrated by Republicans. None of them, however, would have been stopped by a voter ID law.

I think they already know but are basically powerless to do anything about it. The base does whatever FOX and associated right wing media tells them to. They will turn against any politician in an instant. The GOP has to play ball or get burned.

Here's a response from one of my conservative FB friends when I pointed this out to him:

"... and be smart enough to see axes to grind. If you can't see the axes, then get some glasses where you can see them. Charlie Crist and his buddies are out of the party -- they chose to go their own way and lost the gamble, and now they're bitter, and the Palm Beach Post, liberal rag it is, will lap up all their swill. Look, here's the bottom line: you guys promote a political culture where lack of documentation and all the cheating and lack of accountability that go with it are okay, and guess what? Like I said before, you won with it! So, here's the deal: if you want to be a dick about it and keep up with this annoyance when the election's over, I'll defriend you in a heartbeat, and you can preach to your choir all you want."

To be followed up by (when I told him to lighten up):

"...but I have to work my ass off to pay for these losers who voted for Obama with their hands out and think he's so cool and some sort of savior while I'm trying to feed and clothe a daughter as well."

/guess I rustled his jimmies pretty well

So I've shared this story with some democrats I consider to be friends and it barely moves the needle. Not only can liberals and democrats not manufacture outrage on demand and in the massive quantities like Republicans, but they can't even muster real actual anger over something that is factually and undeniably outrageous.

The fake ACORN scandal dominated the 24 hour news cycle for weeks and caused an actual shift in public policy that resulted in ACORN being dismantled.

This.....nothing. Just democrats like myself screaming into the wind.

It's all fun and games until a close relative has to shell out $140 for a simple passport solution instead of lugging around birth certificates, naturalization papers, marriage licenses (some costing $450 to replace) in order to re-apply for an expired driver's license, since carefully US Government ID is not allowed.

Maybe each person who was targeted needs to collect $140 from these guys and their secret billionaire patrons.

In virtually every civilized country, election day is a holiday, voting is mandatory, or both. Election day will never be a holiday in the US simply because the more people have the ability to vote, the less likely it is that Republicans will win.

You'd think that they would think long and hard about the implications of the fact that their best shot at winning is to keep people from voting.

I love that there are people in this thread who don't think the GOP did anything wrong here.

I'm sure it will work out better next time.

We've been seeing this horsesh*t for years. At this point, it's like coming across a disemboweled corpse in the middle of a war. Sure, it's gross, but it's hardly unexpected.

Devo: A) it was supression efforts
B) The GOP sources they sighted were in jail (Jim Greer) or left the party (Charlie Crist).

But Greer's statements about the motivations for the party's legislative efforts, implemented by a GOP-majority House and Senate in Tallahassee in 2011, are backed by Crist - also now on the outs with the party - and two veteran GOP campaign consultants.

Wayne Bertsch, who handles local and legislative races for Republicans, said he knew targeting Democrats was the goal.

"In the races I was involved in in 2008, when we started seeing the increase of turnout and the turnout operations that the Democrats were doing in early voting, it certainly sent a chill down our spines. And in 2008, it didn't have the impact that we were afraid of. It got close, but it wasn't the impact that they had this election cycle," Bertsch said, referring to the fact that Democrats picked up seven legislative seats in Florida in 2012 despite the early voting limitations.

Another GOP consultant, who did not want to be named, also confirmed that influential consultants to the Republican Party of Florida were intent on beating back Democratic turnout in early voting after 2008.

There was a plot to try and put the hawkish conservative who ~24% of people wanted in power instead of the hawkish conservative ~25% of people wanted.

A bloo bloo bloo. What an outrage.

This came from two guys admittedly on the outs with the Republican party. That's not to say they're lying, simply that they don't really speak for the rest of the Republicans at this point. The Republican party (the group with a problem with voters getting to vote) hasn't admitted to anything.
