If he was murdered, does it mean there will be 6 more weeks of winter?

Okay, sorry to be dumb, but what would Israel's motive have been eight, nine years ago to want Arafat dead?

A) Were there more likely peace partners in his successors?
B) Was it looking like he would live another 5, 10, 20 years?

poorjon: They may not need any around as long as the radioactive decay products are well enough characterized. Just look for the right isotopes in the right abundance and you can claim with very good certainty that polonium was there.

Which leads me to wondering why the hell anyone would kill someone with a toxic element. They can't be metabolized away, and they're very easy to detect. Seems like a terrible choice.

To escape and leave doubt on who did it. Kill someone with a gun and everyone knows about it immediately. Poison someone like this and you might escape detection or at least delay it for weeks or more. More doubt as to who killed him.

Thing is, has Israel ever killed anyone this way, ever? They've always been more fans of shaped charges, guns, missiles, etc. It's mainly been the Russians who whack people like this.

Kuroboom: The average life expectancy for a male in the Palestinian territories is 71.8 years according Wikipedia. He was 75 years old, so surely he was assassinated via radioactive poisoning.

this is his wife on a witch hunt to try to get back into the inter-circle after squandering her stolen funds and getting kicked out of Tunisia for having an affair with the king's brother

liam76: Didn't even think what it decays to.

Lead-206 (stable, but indistinguishable from the lead in everyone's environment) and He-4 (also stable but floats away). I think they'll need to focus on other kinds of evidence.

Who is paying for this? How much stolen money does his wife have? What about the suffering of the Palastinians that they are so concerned about?

Israel has strongly denied any involvement in Arafat's death.

I've never known them to lie.
