100 other men drank enough alcohol to kill an ox, and when asked to turn off the car, vomited at the officer and soiled themselves while trying to kick the cop standing 4' away.

Can pot really mess up a driver this bad? Or was this driver drunk? Or senile? Two of my four siblings use pot to control chronic stomach pain and neither of them has ever mentioned any debilitation like the article describes, but then maybe they wouldn't tell me if they thought I would worry.

I remember eating a pile of cookies back in school, the night before a busy Friday. I spent the entire day shuffling from seminar to lecture to colloquium retardedly high. So, if my sisters wanted to lower their risk of emphysema, they would increase their risk of inebriation. I have, in the past, urged them to make brownies or something because of the emphysema risk. They have been polite with no eye rolling or other rude behavior. I would maybe worry less if we didn't have a family history that seems to indicate that we are prone to develop emphysema faster and easier than people from other families.
I wish they could buy the substance/s derived from pot that they need in a pill form. Not that I don't manage to worry about that possibility as well. I worry that pharmaceutical companies won't be content unless they manage to derive some drug from marijuana that is truly addictive. Sometimes I suspect that's why marijuana has not yet been legalized: not enough potential for customers who can't turn away to suit the corporate world. I'm probably just being a goofball on that count though.

Yes, eating cannabis food-products can be considerably more potent than other intake methods. The reason is is because it's harder to control your dose (due to the delay in onset) and eating certain other foods can help or hinder the uptake of the material. It also lasts longer. I can smoke/vape all day long and never really get above an [8], but give me a couple well made brownies and I'm down for the count.

Extract the cannabis into a coconut oil, just like you're cooking, then put the oil into gelcaps with a pill-assembling device. All of this (except the cannabis) can be found on amazon.

Well ideally they would be prepared for the increased effect and would then consume a smaller amount. It sounds like the jackass in the article ate way too much of some medical grade stuff and got knocked on his ass.

They could also try using a vaporizer. If used properly there is no smoke, and I can say from personal experience it is MUCH easier on the lungs.

Also, I believe most medical dispensaries sell it in both pill and oil forms. But of course that only helps if you live in a state that allows it.

No, we don't. Prison is another thing I worry about quite a bit. That and what the effect on nieces/nephews might be if there is an encounter with law enforcement. I don't think they'd use a vaporizer because each of these siblings has a young child, but I suppose if the child is at school it might work. And the suggestion above to make pills with coconut oil seems reasonable. I'll pass these on.

Here's the thing most people fail to understand, even Colorado residence: Pot is a controlled substance in the same way Alcohol is. One of my co-workers said now that pot is legal, people are gonna be sparking up joints in the smoking area. I told him they won't be, and his defense was: What's stopping them? I asked him how many people go into the smoking area and chug a beer on break or do shots at their desk? His answer: No one... but pot is different!

Pot is not different. People will not be showing up to work high if they like their job, it's just like showing up to work drunk. All the social norms and all the same rules apply to pot as they do alcohol. You can get a DUI for being high and driving. DUI is Driving Under the INFLUENCE. It doesn't state just being drunk, it means under the influence of anything, it could be booze, pot or even prescription pills.

I honestly don't know why people are making a big deal about this, it's like the teetotalers that were acting out against booze in the 1920's. In my opinion, booze should be illegal and pot should be legal.

It is certainly amusing. Usually it's tourists that are afraid to smoke so they go for the "brownies". The label clearly says not to eat the whole thing at once and reminds the stoner it takes a relatively long time to get high from the cake. But people think its not working so they eat the whole thing while their friends are getting baked from smoking. A short time later the smokers want to go to the RLD or a museum and the brownie eater wants to go to the hospital.

No video. Sorry.

Dear rest of the country,

Colorado brownies are strong. Do not eat half the brownie at a time. Don't even think about eating the whole thing. Hell, we make chocolate chip cookies that can send you into an 8 hour bliss-coma. B-b-but booooooooooze! I love the hysterically irrational comments from pot heads any time this topic comes up. I personally think weed should be legalized for a plethora of good reasons, but being less harmful than alcohol is the dumbest argument you can make in my opinion. As with any mind altering substance just because you think you can function normally under the influence doesn't mean you actually can. And the over-zealous advocacy some people bring to the table is proof of an unhealthy dependence.

I know too many people who use their anger and frustration with our stupid drug policy in the most counter-productive ways and only end up alienating others by crusading against alcohol like some 19th Century religious nut.

We need to replace the entire "driving under the influence" concept.

Assemble a panel of experts- doctors, professional drivers, some police officers, and heck, the chaps from Top Gear, and have them determine a set of standards for driving safely. Awareness, reaction time, things like that.

Create a roadside test police officers can give. You fail the test? Driving While Impaired, Ticket, maybe tow your car, points on license, what-have-you.

It doesn't matter if you fail the test because your drunk, stoned, or tripping balls. Prescription meds, non-prescription meds, if you're too old or just because you're sleepy.

The original prohibitionists were inspired by their work with domestic violence victims. They heard so often "He's like two people. When he's not drinking, he's good and kind." They thought outlawing alcohol would drastically reduce domestic violence and poverty. And, if you think about it, even now women are inclined to describe their abusive partners as victims of a personality altering substance/addiction. How often do you hear a victim of abuse state "Yeah, he's just as a$$hole."

I'm saying both should be legal and that argument is the worst of all because a) It's unpersuasive insofar as it's totally subjective. Everyone reacts to different substances in different ways. Not everyone who drinks becomes an alcoholic and dangerous to society. And not everyone who smokes weed becomes docile and sleepy and; b) there are far better arguments that don't alienate those with no dog in the fight and who can reasonably discuss the issue.

I'm sure he got way too greedy. They usually sell brownies in multi-dose sizes, yet the cops found him with just crumbs AND a joint.

But if he really went to a dispensary he should've known better. As an out of stater, though, he can't get a card (64 isn't in effect yet), so he probably bought it off a resident with one.
