tony41454: "My intent was not to compare him to Jesus"

Unlike Jamie Foxx the blasphemer, who DID compare him to God. Apparently Jamie never read this:

"On an appointed day Herod, having put on his royal apparel, took his seat on the rostrum and began delivering an address to them. The people kept crying out, 'The voice of a god and not of a man!'
And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died." (Acts 12:21-23)

Let hope those worms chew fast.

Funny how God hasn't given a wet fart about blasphemy since then.

Jesus, no need to tap dance around comparing him to Christ. He made the holy grail of comparisons and he should stick to it.

untaken_name: I think the real tragedy is the number of people who've grown up believing that the Romans only ever crucified one guy. What about the rest of them? Didn't anyone stop to think that maybe the artist was comparing Obama to one of the other people the Romans crucified?

Crown of Thorns is pretty much always Jesus iconography.

It really is funny how the number of miracles/punishments has declined drastically as people started to write things down.

Then maybe mister artist shouldn't have depicted Obama with a crown of thorns. As I understand it a crown of thorns wasn't part of the standard crucifixion package.

2012-11-27 07:41:32 AM

AverageAmericanGuy: Jesus was crucified by his own party.

No one out there on the Left has the balls to crucify Obama for his energetic support of right wing policies.

The painting doesn't even make any sense.

Why would the left want to crucify him when they just relected him? And the Romans were Jesus own party?

Crucifixion was limited to the lowest of the low criminals, slaves and trouble makers in Roman society. If you were crucified, it's because Rome didn't want to take the time to make your punishment more severe. Just let you linger and suffer and let the vultures get you.

So you're comparing Obama to a criminal. I like your newsletter and wish to subscribe.

I can believe it. When I tell someone to nail themselves on a cross, it's not because they're the son of God sent to die for our sins. It's because they like to cast themselves as martyrs.

The painting is called "Truth" - and shows the president on the cross with his arms outstretched.

No it doesn't. There is no cross in the picture.

So that explains Dubya! He was haunted by two former Presidents with grossly different views on the Constitution and the purpose of government, thereby confusing him and causing him to make such poor decisions as cutting taxes and taking us to war for no apparent reason!

Damn, I almost feel sorry for the guy.

You know what the one thing more pathetic then still holding Bush hate from years and years ago?

Pretending the current president is Christ-like in any way or manner.

The irony of course, is this is from a party that preaches tolerance as long as your view is the same as mine.

We're through the looking glass, people.

That's not what I said at all, but enjoy being able to slip Glenn Beck into your post like the suave political pundit you are.

Take a minute and let your statement sink in though. "One nutcase represents the party now?"

I will stab myself in the eye if you can somehow fail to see the disparity here between what the right does to the left, and vice versa. Because amazingly you seem to conveniently forget the shoe fits the other foot as well.

I don't think this is very good art but if you can't see this as a comment on how Obama's being treated and not who he is you should probably just stick to your Kincade jigsaw puzzles.

Why is it Ok for the Right to be allowed to be prejudiced against a president of color in the name of freedom of speech, but we can't express our prejudice against outright stupidity without being called the oppressors of freedom?

I actually asked that very question about blasphemy to my childhood pastor years ago (Southern Baptist). He told me that God DOES strike down the wicked blasphemers, but sometimes it takes decades for them to die. But he assured me they suffered the whole time. That's the current belief on the matter.

Clearly I am no longer a religious person.

The butthurt crowd could be misinterpreting the symbolism of the crown of thorns.
Maybe it's just a song reference...

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair

Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way
