You sound like my grandfather, eating an entire bag of potato chips while complaining how rancid they are.

Him smoking weed and dropping acid is about the only thing he did right so far.

I could respect the guy for having fervent beliefs, but not when he goes out and appears on the show anyway. Put your money where your mouth is... Get out of your contract... They replaced Charlie Sheen, for christ-sakes.... I'm sure they're not going to put up too much of a fuss replacing a chubby little religious boy.

Did anyone mention that he's the next Kirk Cameron yet? I have a hilarious picture of Kirk Cameron's birthday party I could post, if not.

(It looks like he's blowing a dude in the picture, if you crop it right!)

I don't know, when I look back on TV I watched as a kid, it was pretty shiatty. We have reality TV bullshiat to deal with now but there's also movie-quality TV going on, although admittedly mostly on cable. I don't watch a lot of TV but what I do watch is better than most of what I watched as a kid.

how is dropping acid for a kid ever the right thing to do? so lohan is a trainwreck and this kid has found something positive in his life (even if you don't agree with it). how is this wrong?

Ever notice you never hear a born again Christian type say 'My life was going really awesome, so I turned to Christ'.

Osomatic: I have heard about fees being a problem, but as far as the percentages go, isn't it the other way around - no more than 10% can be skimmed? It's been a while since I looked into this, I guess I need to do some research again. Or not, since I don't actually care all that much.

The fees made the news earlier this year, because a lot of kids were turning 18 and finding out they had almost nothing -- or less than nothing and actually owed the bank. It defeats the purpose and intent of the law, but did anyone expect banks to operate within the spirit of the law?

And as it was pointed out to me, I wrote 10%, but it's 15% that has to go into the trust account. A parent can elect to put any amount, even 100% of the money into the account, but only 15% is protected. They can do whatever they want with the rest, unfortunately and as was also pointed out, a lot of that money does go to agent and manager fees.

Ugh... by "protected" I mean "mandated to be placed in the blocked account under the law." I should quit while I'm ahead... been sick for two days and haven't slept. The brain isn't working correctly tonight.

he never said this is how he felt the entire time working on the show. I will admit that I liked the early years of the show but always wondered how any parent could let their 10 year old kid work on such a dirty show.

akplus is a saint, you sonofabiatch, subby.

He does tons of work supporting causes like human slavery and human trafficking.

Not to mention that he is a great actor. He's a younger, handsomer Paul Newman, so to speak.

I must be bored because I just watched that video (and I have never watched the show). Maybe the kid reminds me of a friend of mine who is a bit of a wiseass, but did that strike anyone else as less than serious and perhaps a way for them to drum up some publicity for the show the way it worked when Charlie Sheen went nuts? That led to huge ratings (inexplicably, since he was no longer on the show) and I have to imagine it is somewhat waning after being around for so many years and not having huge controversy in the news every other day.

Just a theory, anyway.

In California (and Alaska, oddly) the on-set teachers are also welfare workers, who are state-certified and look after the minors on set in all manners, including protecting them from dangers and inappropriate situations. They also make sure legal hours are enforced and that the kids have proper permits (which are issued contingent on signatures from a school stating they are in good standing). And California residents must have these teachers (studio teachers) travel with them regardless of where they work.

It's not perfect, obviously, but there are some protections for these kids, for what that's worth.

Know how I know you're an asshole? You say "sky wizard", and also use "Xtian"

Xtian is a proper usage. In Greek it was pronounces Eksmes. X is the appropriate substitution for Chi which is the Greek letter for the beginning of Christ in Greek. Also X represents the labrum. It has only been modern Christianity which has bastardized this usage (much like Hitler's exploitation of the swastika). The main leader of this misinformation being Billy Graham.

A grown man in the 21st century who believes in Satan? It sounds to me like he is mentally ill. Possibly schizophrenia induced by taking too many drugs.

And even then, it can't really be considered "proper" since you're using an English letter to represent a Greek symbol and then tacking a Latin suffix onto it. It's certainly no more proper than spelling out the English translation.  But to each his own.

#5 Do something else besides acting. I think there are a lot more of these ones than anything else. You just don't hear about them, since they aren't in Hollywood anymore. Or only do part time gigs. See the kids from The Wonder Years for good examples.

Of course it is not exact but a justified usage, I assumed most would understand that this is a common usage. My main point is that it is not the X ing out of Christ as most state. It refers to Xristos. The X is actually the appropriate Greek symbol not an English letter. As stated it is representative of Chi, not the third letter Gamma in the alphabet as our C represents.

TMZ wasn't exaggerating for once--he really trashed it.

Doesn't matter anyway. The kid can't act (although he's gotten a little better over the years), and his character is supposed to be in the military now. So if he wants to leave, let him leave.

AdolfOliverPanties: FuryOfFirestorm: No big surprise here. There are 4 major routes that child stars follow:

1) Get hooked on drugs, flush career down the toilet, hit rock bottom and become an Ultra-Fundie Born Again Christian. (Kirk Cameron, Willie Ames, the kid from "James At Fifteen")

2) Get pushed into acting by stage parents, make a lot of money, stop getting work after puberty strips away the cuteness, then find out your parents spent all your earnings (Gary Coleman, Jackie Coogan, the youngest kid on "Home Improvement")

3) Fade into obscurity and end up "starring" on reality shows just for a paycheck. (Erin Moran, Emmanuel Lewis, the kid that played Screech on "Saved By The Bell")

4) Manage to transition to a successful career as an adult (Jodie Foster, Ron Howard, that kid from the last season of "Growing Pains"....Leo DiSomething...)

5) Do #1 as far as the drugs go, then do pr0n or OD/commit suicide. (Dana Plato, Anissa Jones, Jonathan Brandis, Scott Schwartz, Jaimee Foxworth)

or be such an unbearable adult that you're eventually murdered (Alfafa)

or die young and the public doesn't notice until it's time to re-release your Disney films (Matthew Garber from Mary Poppins, Bobby Driscoll from Peter Pan and Song of the South)
