I think if anyone got a serious husband bulge from these ideas, they could just stencil them on the wall themselves in 30 minutes instead of spending twenty bucks (or whatever) and waiting a week for a poster to arrive.

That's pretty lame. So he just took some easily recognized symbol from the games, and put it in a box with a hipster pastel look.

A bit too minimalist. I personally like a bunch of the stuff at Fangamer...

Like this one.

Planning on grabbing it at some point.

/Also, its fun to see posters of the less-recognizable, but great games, like Earthbound.
// oh god does this make me a videogame hipster?

Yeah, it's not just about taking stuff away in the art, it's about taking stuff away and leaving as much meaning and recognition as possible.

Depends, do you always say 'Fuzzy pickles' when you get your picture taken?

I don't get the DooM one.

Maybe it's supposed to be the button from the 'exit' panel at the end of each level.

Quick and dirty, but I think more obvious than most of the ones in that article.

If you rotate the Gauntlet key 90 degrees it's the key from Adventure.

Tetris, Ridge Racer, and Wipeout could all reference anything

The first thing that comes to mind with the Kung Fu one is KFC.

This is by far the worst of the "minimalist posters" thing. The worst 2 are Mortal Kombat and Half Life.

The only decent one was the Another World one. Also, Blades of Steel is on there twice.

Coincidentally, I just bought a copy of that for the Super Nintendo. I'd get the poster, too, but didn't see a way to buy them.

/sorry, Parallax, but I rent and while I could still stencil, I'm too lazy to bother when I know I'll have to paint over it when I leave.

I've beaten that game too many times. Did you ever play Heart of the Alien? The sequel for Sega CD. Way harder.

As punishing as those games are (Heart of the Alien, Blackthorne, Flashback) I just loved them.

Oh nice, somebody came up with an even worse design for video game packaging than the Sega Master System launch titles.

I just bought a Sega collection for the 360 and tried out Golden Axe for the first time in at least 10 years. To say I got my ass handed to me would be the understatement of my lifetime.

//After that debacle, I fired up Shining Force until I realized it was Sunday night/Monday morning and I had to work. I hate working.

That's not Gauntlet, that's clearly Adventure.

I don't get the Monkey Island one. Is that supposed to be LeChuck exploding in the end?

A friend of mine had that arcade box. The first few levels are easy but it starts gobbling quarters QUICKLY.

Why'd they use the Black Mesa symbol when the actual game icon is just as simple and far more recognizable?

It's a treasure map, see.

Fish in a Barrel: Why'd they use the Black Mesa symbol when the actual game icon is just as simple and far more recognizable?

No idea. They could have just put a crowbar graphic there and it would have been different from the HL logo and been indicative of the franchise.
