Hell Yeah!

Can't believe he got elected in the first place. Kind of shocked that hey actually turffed him, 2 years in.

Dammit. Was just submitting this.

The best part is his defense was ignorance. That he's never read any conflict of interest act or any training materials.

This dickbag was elected by the rich to pander to the rich.

He'd be perfectly at home as a republican.

I hope the screen door DOES hit him on the way out.

He will be in office for another 14 days until the deputy mayor takes over. However, Ford can try to stay the judgment. If successful, he can exhaust his appeals - and you can bet he will do just that - while remaining in office. So, it sounds like we're not rid of the moron yet.

He also did other things like unfairly influence public works to fix infrastructure around his own businesses ahead of schedule and he allegedly diverted municipal resources to his own personal use.

Now. Toronto. Can you PLEEEEASE elect someone who isn't a colossal dillhole?

Nah, he didn't pander to the rich, he pandered to the selfish. Which admittedly has a large overlap, but all rich aren't selfish, and many selfish aren't rich.

And it's almost certain he'll appeal this, so it's not - sadly - over with yet.

Ford does some good work in the community. But this trial wasn't about $3,150. It's about him trying to change the rules to suit himself. Sometimes it's just cheaper to pay the fine.

Let's also add that he's a douche that came in on a platform vying to get rid of corruption. He is by no means, in the league of Cheney and Haliburton but he has held Toronto city hall in paralysis for far too long. I'm glad he's gone and hopefully the city can move forward as a world class city and not run like small town politics.

It's hard to say. The last time this happened in Toronto, apparently they solved the problem by picking from a hat.

The nice thing is that he'd almost be guarunteed to lose an election at this point, so I welcome him running again. I just hope the legal side of things gets worked through quickly, having him sticking around for months while the appeal takes place will be annoying.

That, plus the "left" side of Toronto politics couldn't pick between two candidates, so it was a three way race with Ford being the only "right" option.

I don't think Ford is a good politician or even a good Mayor - but I'd be happier to have him reprimanded some other way as opposed to spending $7 million to elect somebody else.

dogfather_jr: I don't think Ford is a good politician or even a good Mayor - but I'd be happier to have him reprimanded some other way as opposed to spending $7 million to elect somebody else.

Unfortunately, it's the only way he'll actually learn. He has had tons of formal reprimands and he hasn't learned from his mistakes at all, and in many cases, has just doubled-down. Anything short of removing him from office is just another thing he can ignore. You can't give him a worthwhile fine - the guy is loaded. You can't give him a strongly-worded reprimand because he doesn't care. You can't make him apologize because the one time he was forced to do that, literally the only thing he said was "sorry".

Leaving him in power just lets him continue his abuses and mistakes.

So would the judge. Unfortunately, there are no other options. If you are guilty - which Ford is - the only option available is being removed from your seat.

alltim: Serial: whatshisname: I thought he was elected by the average Joe who didn't like the $60 vehicle license surcharge, and thought new subways could be built for free.

That, plus the "left" side of Toronto politics couldn't pick between two candidates, so it was a three way race with Ford being the only "right" option.

I seriously hope they get their shiat together and only put up one viable candidate. The last thing we need is for Ford to sneak back in because of a vote split again.

Olivia Chow, perhaps?

Given Ford vs Chow, I'm voting Mayor McCheese

Meanwhile, in Mississauga.....

2012-11-26 02:10:31 PM
Ford promised the 'burbs free subways, got rid of the vehicle registration tax (which actually provided INCOME to the city), has been fighting a ban on plastic bags (which most people seem to have adapted to just fine), promised to cut back on waste at City Hall (without defining what "waste" was exactly), then bragged of his successes.

He managed to alienate even his own supporters in council, skipped council meetings to go coach football, used city services like his own personal employees, openly broke the law on multiple occasions, threatened reporters and punished news outlets he didn't like, skipped City functions to go to the family cottage, and made himself a laughingstock over ridiculous antics like his "cut the waist" challenge (which he later cancelled because the media was hounding him over his weight...after he publicly announced he was going to lose weight and arranged weekly "weigh ins"), and calling 911 because he was accosted by "Marg, Warrior Princess". In addition to this court case, he's also involved in a $6M libel suit (as defendant).

He would probably make a terrific City Ombudsman and I cannot understand why he even wants to be mayor when he shows no interest in any of the things mayors do.

I really hope council just appoints a replacement for the next couple of years. We'll limp along...it can't be any worse than the last 2 years so why waste $7M on a by-election. Ford will probably run again (by-election or in 2014, depending on what is permitted), watching him run on a "poor little me, the left is out to get me!" platform is going to suck.

I get that Ford broke the rules but I think this is asinine.

He could do the right thing and walk away.

But if he had a sense of what "doing the right thing" meant, this would not have made it this far.

He thinks he gets to decide what rules apply to him and that is why he is not fit to lead.

More correctly, he had the police call the TTC and tell them they needed two buses, knowing that the TTC does not ask the police "what for?" because it's usually 1) none of their damn business and 2) in the interests of the public peace to send some damn buses. Hoofing passengers off of a city bus because the cops need them to detail 50 people right goddamned now isn't at all uncommon.

But on meth, or for Ford's football team, it is.

Even in backwards Winnipeg they have a day of training for all incoming ( including reelected) mayors and council members that takes place right before being sworn in and conflict of interest is talked about and they need to declare assets and such.

The debate being that council was voting if he should have to pay back the donations or not. He debated and voted for himself.

He never read them, but he testified that he did recuse himself on other occasions so he obviously was aware of the concept - especially after being warned by the Speaker before the debate.

And frankly, if you admit publicly that you didn't read the rules on how to do your job, then it should not be a surprise when you get the boot. That is what would happen in the private sector, and since Mr. Ford thinks the City should be run like a business then he should be ok with the principles applying there.

Greasy Mammoliti baled on the Mayor and his committees today... trying to distance himself from what he thought was the 'right' side only a few weeks ago... His first career was as a furniture salesman he built Badboy from nothing and as the story goes could "sell freezers to Eskimos". He was Mayor of North York (one of the amalgamated suburbs of Toronto) and had been a pretty good mayor of North York by most standards... At amalgamation, he was the most charismatic of the collective Mayors by a mile, but he was already beginning to lose it... and well, the rest as they say is history...
