But hey, free Christmas trees!

2012-11-26 01:29:04 PM
They do, but Christmas is on June 25 because of the reversed seasons and all that in the Southern Hemisphere. And water goes down the drain counterclockwise in Austria.

One of my favourite weather stories is about a man near the US-Canada border (or was it the Canada-US border?) who dug a hole to plant a tree. A tornado picked up a tree on the way across the border and dropped it right in the hole. Ta-da!

The Lord tornado giveth and the Lord tornado taketh away.

I got that from a Canadian weather calendar with a weather story each day of the year. I can't remember which way the tornado went--from Canada to the US or from US to Canada, but I believe the State was New York and the Province was Ontario.

I also had a couple of astronomy calendars but they got dull. A new set of dots every month. Whee-ha! I could hardly wait. It was like an Advent calendar without the chocolate.

And they don't even connect to make a shovel and pail like connect-a-dots.

2012-11-26 03:35:03 PM
Please. Everybody knows that Austria is on the bottom of the earth. Therefore the trees would have fallen down towards the sky and not up towards the garden.

Down under they celebrate Christmas in the dread heat of Summer, around the backyard barbie and the swimming pool.

People did that in some of the American textbooks used in Canadian schools back when I was young. There were a lot of confused kids in some schools, who wondered why the illustration for Summer and Winter were the same. They just put it down to a printer's error. Which shows that Americans are not the only people who don't know much about geography.

The moral is clear enough: NEVER BUY TEXTBOOKS FROM FLORIDA.

If Republican or conservative, you can change that to: NEVER BUY TEXTBOOKS FROM CALIFORNIA.

Caveat emptor.

mainstreet62: Wrong hemisphere, subby. At least you got the planet right.

Um....not necessarily. They're both in the same (Eastern) hemisphere. Now put another schnitzel on the barbie and read up on your memes, FNG.

I_C_Weener: Mock26: If Austria is upside down and on the bottom of the world then how do things stay on the ground?

Same reason their toilets flush counter-clockwise.  Magnets.

But how the fark do they work?

imtheonlylp: Subby's mom doesn't celebrate Christmas down under.

So you're saying she doesn't trim that tree?

I always think "down under" is the female crotch, so I chuckle at these stories.

ObscureNameHere: medius: tuxq: I miss the good ole' days of Fark where getting the joke actually took some inside knowledge; or, at very least, a 9th grade vocabulary.

you're such a revisionist

there never were those "good old days" in father Farkistan

Boobies on Main Page and in-thread says you are wrong.

I'm sorry. You're right. But I always went to porn sites to masturbate even then.

Well-played. You win.

MycroftHolmes: L.D. Ablo: They do, but Christmas is on June 25 because of the reversed seasons and all that in the Southern Hemisphere. And water goes down the drain counterclockwise in Austria.

/watch out for the drop bears

You and subby is stupid. Austrian is the capital of Texas, not down under

I really don't know why I'm loving this so much.

Wow...was that title supposed to be funny or is the subby just stupid.....maybe both?

2012-11-26 05:48:38 PM

Tomji: is it considered funny to mix up Australia and Austria? I just find it retarded and I am never fully sure if the mix up is intentional or the poster is really mentally only able to process 3-5 different countries.

Its this season's "your mom" joke

/I hear the Spring line willl feature an exciting innovation called a "knock-knock joke"

Most Austrians celebrate Christmas on their famous beaches with a traditional meal of bratwurst and beer.

Dadbart: Hate to disappoint, But Austria is not down under, Australia is. Austria is in Europe, the headquarters of many things unpleasant in history.

What a mess. But hey, it's winter, so I bet they'll just Leave them Piled up on the ground fir a while.

pacochu: Lights also wrap around the tree in the opposite direction down there too.

The worst part of travelling there is getting used to flicking the switch up (to them it's down) to turn the lights off.

Mock26: If Austria is upside down and on the bottom of the world then how do things stay on the ground?

It's like reverse gravity. Remember how the air gets thinner the higher you go above sea level? Well, it gets denser the farther south you go too. So, way down in Austria, the air just pushes them up to ground level.

Read somewhere that the tradition of keeping a Christmas tree INSIDE the house, instead of outside, became popularized by the Austrians. Apparently, Austrian families started to bring their trees inside to protect them from the Koala bears, who can devour a Christmas tree in no time flat.

This practice eventually spread to other regions that celebrate Christmas, and most of us now keep a tree inside the home instead of outside, all thanks to Austrians and the Koala Bear.

Highroller48: Deep Contact: had98c: pacochu: Lights also wrap around the tree in the opposite direction down there too.

The very first thing I did when I got to Australia was flush a toilet to see if the reverse swirl thing was true. It made for a very disappointing start to my trip.

You have to use a toilet made in Austria for that to work.

I love the episode where Stewie got "booted" for insulting the Austrians about that.

No, that was Urkel.

Even the German articles only had stockphotos.

Hey, they're just trying to pass along info. They weren't expecting the Portugese Inquisition, you know...

I was but they snuck in the back door. Ya turn yer back for one minute and everything goes in the crapper.

My favorite music comes from Austria. I've always enjoyed relaxing to Strauss' "Waltz of Matilda". I think Freud once lobbied to make it the national anthem.
