If you weigh 425 pounds, can't walk, and want to fly half-way around the world, it might be better to get an oxygen tank and blanket and fly ratchet-strapped to the hold of a cargo plane.

Sounds like the problem was that she was so immense that she was pretty much immovable. If you break wheelchairs and even firefighters can't haul your ass on a plane, what else do you expect airlines to do?

So they again went back to the vacation home to make other arrangements as Vilma became sicker and sicker.

See when "NORMAL" people get sicker and sicker, we go to the doctor or to the hospital.
When morons get sick, they go home and complain.

425 with one leg? I just feel bad that we will never get to see her hop.

Yeah guys, the airlines killed her.

She didn't trust the hospitals. From the article.

We should be glad she never got to hop. It would be like setting of a 6.0 earthquake.

I bet she's still over the carrion limit.

The puzzling thing about this story is that they got her ass to Hungary only a few weeks before. Assuming her weight didn't change much while she was there, WTF?

Give her a spike heel and let her look for oil.

If she didn't die then it wouldn't have been long. That is the sort of tragedy that is years in the making not three days. Stop killing yourself.

/Maybe UPS or FedEx coulda flown her out in a heated cargo hold.

The dumbest thing in all this is they were in Europe. Take the damn train to Germany and go to a hospital there. First world medical care, a short train ride away (assuming Hungary's hospital is as terrible as they claim).

Also if they were in Hungary, how hard is it to get a hold of the US State Department and ask for help? I can get them on the phone when my ass is in inland China, you can reach them from Budapest or Prague.

Jument: The puzzling thing about this story is that they got her ass to Hungary only a few weeks before. Assuming her weight didn't change much while she was there, WTF?

Well, maybe on the trip there she wasn't so sick and was able to sort of assist in oozing herself into the seats. On the way back it sounds like she was immobile and had to be carried. Even a team of firefighters could not squish her fat rolls onto the seats. It is hard to get a grip on a real fatty without some kind of sling and hoist.

My idea, a fully funded, preconceived experiment:
Book a plane well ahead of time, maybe a commuter flight under 2hrs, with passengers all weighing in at 250lbs or more. They're all in on it. See what the airline does when a everyone is trying to buckle in, stow their bags, and there are a several people left with one buttcheek on the seat and one hanging in the isle.

Have a few attorneys ready to go on behalf of these passengers who are "asked to leave" because there is no room.
What would the airline do?

The world is not the ADA USA. If moving you poses life-threatening problems, stay the fark HOME.

If the choice is between "potentially crappy doctor" and "dying", I think I'll go with the doctor.

Evidently Hungarian health care doesn't suck: "The quality of medical care in Hungary is up to the standards of most western countries. In fact, Hungary is beginning to make its mark as a medical tourism destination."

Vilma, who weighed about 425 pounds, had only one leg and used a wheelchair. She traveled with her husband of 33 years to Hungary on Delta and KLM airlines on Sept. 17.

They got her there but then couldn't get her home? I doubt she got that much bigger while abroad, so wtf?

2012-11-26 01:46:43 PM
She flew out in September. How was it impossible for her to fly back? Couldn't they have called the carrier that did the outbound flight and make arrangements?

If not, they could have hired a van to drive her to France or England for medical care they could trust.

Apparently they owned a vacation home, so the 425 pound one legged whale bought property in a place where they felt they could gain access to adequate medical treatment. Morons.

If only she could have travelled to some other country with a reputation for better hospitals.

I don't understand how she got to Budapest though. I know gulash has lots of calories but I didn't think you could put on so much weight during a few days that it would be impossible to leave again.

That's it, encourage not only unhealthy living, but also victimization and more frivolous lawsuits. Genius troll is genius.

Going out on a limb here--let it fly, watch it crash-n-burn on takeoff. Less expensive than litigation, yes...?

2012-11-26 01:49:14 PM
Holy shiat. My ex-wife is up to around 450 lbs now but she has both legs. It takes dedication to reach that weight. 450 and missing a leg is Olympic level dedication to her fatness

Contents Under Pressure: She flew out in September. How was it impossible for her to fly back? Couldn't they have called the carrier that did the outbound flight and make arrangements?

Because she flew south on the way there. It was downhill. Flying her north/uphill is a lot harder.

I was simply relaying her feelings, stupid as they might have been.

Hungary is not the worst place in the world to get sick. I similarly would choose the "sketchy foreign doctor".

She probably shouldn't of taken the trip in the first place. But how the heck did she get there safely on the incoming flight?!
