Interesting that there was enough backlash against the Saints penalties that now the two biggest contenders for the last wild card ahead of the Saints (Vikes have too tough a schedule) both had BOTH of their corners popped for the same drug at the same time. Then again, Eric Wright still hasn't has his appeal decided.

That's, uh, not really interesting. It is more like tin foil hat conspiracy garbage.

Anyway, is this for something dumb like Adderall? Or we're they actually using something that enhanced performance like HGH?

According to reports, yes, it's Adderall for both of them.

There have been so many drugs flushed down toilets in south Florida, just being exposed to the stadium sprinklers in Miami would get you to test positive for Adderall.

Eh, Eric Wright was facing suspension for the same thing in October and still hasn't missed a week. But f*ck it, if they do get suspended it's a nice chance to possibly develop depth for the future, it might encourage Carroll to stop telling the offense to let off the accelerator, and we might end up better off for it. Doubt we're winning a SB anyway since we'd have to go on the road to do it.

Lost Thought 00: Oh noes! Now who else will they find to blow coverage in the fourth quarter!

I don't think either of them had any blown coverages that I remember. The linebackers got annihilated by anyone underneath and safeties had a couple of plays where they had issues.

Is there any performance use in the NFL for Adderall besides the increased mental sharpness? For example, can it be used to hide other PEDs?

Because I'm having a hard time believing the increase in mental acuity will be significant on the field.

2012-11-26 12:16:43 PM
Moreover, can someone explain to me why Adderall is considered a PED in the first place?

Anything you can suspend people and fine 'em for is something good to suspend/fine 'em for. You can't be having players actually keep the money they're offered in their contracts!

I'm not sure it is considered a PED, think this falls under the leagues policy about recreational drugs.

I do find it hard to believe, though. Pete Carroll wouldn't allow cheating in a program he runs.

Of course. Which is why I'm guessing they don't have a prescription for it.

Pretty sure you can use adderal if prescribed. At least that's what I seem to remember from Joe Haden's suspension earlier this year.

Not after the fact. One of those things where it has to be on file with the league well in advance.

/I like that multiple DUIs gets you 1-2 games while Adderall is 4 games

I lived through the 13th man penalty. I take solace when I can. but yeah I watched the game at Flames Central last night and boy did they suck! Larry Taylor seemed like the only guy who could do anything last night.

It is ridiculously easy to get a prescription for that; anybody who uses that stuff & gets tested ought to have one.

xaks: Moreover, can someone explain to me why Adderall is considered a PED in the first place?

It helps you stay up later & not be too drunk @ the club so you can bang more football sluts. Goodell doesn't stand for that shiat. Hold your liquor or suffer the limp dick. It's part of the NFL's rookie symposium. It's in the "Whoring" section, as I recall.

Giants RB Andre Brown was let off the hook despite not having done the paperwork in advance.

Count me among those who can't possibly imagine that Adderall actually confers an appreciable advantage on the field. Maybe it does something for the crushing boredom of film study.

It's not like there is any surprise here. It's banned, and your ability to make millions of dollars is compromised if you use it.

Eh, if they're not around then maybe Chicago Jay gets too big for his britches and starts thinking he can fit anything in against the backups and we get some nice turnovers. Plus we'll get to see if Jeremy Lane can play outside of special teams - remember, he was one of the guys we got for losing to the Cardinals in Week 17 last year (loss moved us up in draft order, traded back down and got two picks; therefore that loss was worth two players).

They just got paid back in Miami with that roughing the passer flag on Thomas that negated an endzone INT.

I have a hard time seeing how Adderall is as or more egregious as any other drug. Yes, the NFL wants to prevent abuse and so on, but when I was on Adderall, it actually wore me out faster to the point where climbing up a few flights of steps winded me. I can see how guys would take it to add to their focus in pregame buildup, but on the field, I have a hard time believing it does anything for them.

It takes the edge off both sides, if you need it. I can't speak to how their expience with AD(H)D is, but with mine sometimes I couldn't focus to get on task, and sometimes I couldn't refocus to move on to a new task. Many people find Adderall or the like to be a stimulant, but for me it was more calming. The biggest change was probably when I would take Adderall, and as soon as it took effect my handwriting changed from illegible to neat.

I would probably still need to take it daily if it weren't for the near ubiquitious ability to spell and grammar check. I wouldn't be surprised if this whole thing comes to nothing.

whizbangthedirtfarmer: /that and the infuriating playcalling in Detroit and Miami

I do not even want to hear it. If the defense or offensive line played anything near where their capable, it wouldn't have mattered.

But it's a mild one. It's not like the pills they were taking in baseball in the 70s, where you could see players twitching and sweating and sprinting all over the place. I took Ritalin for a while about 10 years ago, didn't feel different in any way, and ceased taking them pretty soon thereafter. Obviously people use Adderall for a reason, it's just that I can't see risking a suspension for a drug whose effects are so subtle. You can get at least as much out of caffeine.

Have you contemplated the idea that perhaps not everyone takes it exactly as prescribed? Especially those with no prescriptions?

If the NFL were serious about stopping the use of performance-enhancing drugs, its players would all look like punters.

For a corner, wouldn't ADHD itself be the performance enhancer? Find the guy you're assigned to guard, wait for the snap, *DEFENDDEFENDDEFENDDEFEND*, hear the whistle, look around the stadium for a bit.

Hell, it can even change mid-play. *DEFENDDEFEND* *pick* "I'm now a downfield blocker. I must block for my teammate." Hear the whistle, "hey, is that John Candy?"

As Robert1966 said, if they enforced all the rules consistently, pretty much no one currently in the league would be playing.

6-5. 5-0 at home, 1-5 on the road. 0-3 in their division.
3 more games at home, 2 more on the road. 6th place on a tie breaker situation with the same record as 2 other teams? Not looking good.
