Wait, what? Urban Meyer didn't just start coaching this year? There have been teams from sh*t conferences that have gone undefeated and haven't made a title game, especially in years where there were several undefeated teams? WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL US ABOUT THIS SOONER?

FTFA: "The Broncos were ranked #16 in the preseason poll, but came out swinging [against Oregon]." I thought it was Oregon that did the swinging in that game.

I think there is a pretty good reason why Ohio State isn't sniffing at a title.

Not when Ohio State are serving bowl bans and eligibility for a conference title ban as well.

Sucks you got busted Ohio State, better luck next year....

There was a very, very small part of me who was glad that the Buckeyes beat my beloved Wolverines, since I knew that if the Buckeyes went 12-0 they would howl bloody murder about how they should be in the title hunt even though they're on probation. I'm not sure if it's reached, or will ever reach, the amount of butthurt that I want it to, but man it's fun to listen to them stomp their little nutty feet and demand that they don't actually need to accept the consequences of the actions of their program if it means they actually lose a shot at a BCS title.

It would shatter viewing records and show everyone, definitively, that no one actually gives a fark about some lame rematch between two SEC teams for a "national championship game."

The downside, of course, is that my Buckeyes would likely lose to Notre Dame, which would be mighty embarrassing. Ohio State just isn't a championship caliber team this year. It's pretty awesome that they went 12-0. That is always a accomplishment worth celebrating, but this team has a ways to go before we're being serious about contending for national championships. Beats the hell out of going 6-7 like last year though!

I've not heard a single fan say anything even remotely close to what you describe. Those are windmills in Buckeye jerseys.

Trust me when I say that the loss hurts you more than it hurts us. :)

Buckeye nation is absolutely delirious with joy right now. We just went undefeated, beat our rival, and did it in a decidedly Big Ten fashion with brutal defense in that second half. There's no butthurt around this town, I assure you.

I find it interesting that OSU is still #4 despite being undefeated when, if they were bowl eligible, they would almost certailny be #1 or #2. The computers appear to agree that Ohio State hasn't played a great schedule but part of me wonders why the AP voters are letting them rot. Is it punishment? I assume the guy who has them ranked 12 is punishing them.

*pinches cheeks* You're soooo cute! After Nebraska won, Michigan was only playing for the pride of beating Ohio State. It was relegated to a second tier (at best) Bowl game. Meanwhile, Ohio State gets to have a "perfect season" on their record that doesn't get any payoff. Their seniors, most of whom are innocent victims of SweaterVest deciding that rules don't need to apply to him and his program, don't get to play in a Big 10 Championship game, and don't get a potential chance to play for a BCS title. Instead, Meyer might buy them an Asterisk ring so they can flash it all around for the rest of their lives saying "We were 12-0 in 2012!" and then go on to say "We didn't win a Big 10 championship or win a Bowl game. But we beat Michigan!" while trying not to think "What if we had faced Nebraska for the second time? What if we went to a BCS championship game against Notre Dame?"

Meanwhile, Michigan is likely going to be playing a cupcake and will win their bowl game, so will go 9-4 with a bowl win while Ohio State goes 12-0 with... beating Michigan as their bowl game.

Hmm. You know, you're right. Michigan was totally hurt more by the loss than the Buckeyes. I'll really feel it when I'm watching Michigan play in a bowl game in late December or early January, and I listen to all the reminders about how possible it may be for the AP to vote Ohio State as a Champion even though they aren't even a Big 10 champion, let alone the winner of a bowl game.

2012-11-26 12:47:04 PM
well, i for one, can only conclude this is because there is a massive anti-urban meyer and anti-ohio state bias due to the media long held love affair with the sec. just think about to 2006 when the media forced michigan out of the title game which would have been been the greatest rematch of the game of the century (or maybe last century). instead they gift a title shot to florida, a school with little history or tradition. now they are punishing meyer for leaving the media's favorite conference and punishing ohio state because the media and the ncaa do not want ohio state to succeed. it makes me sick

/that's got to be it right?
//or it could be that they have played essentially no one and that they are on probation.

ND and 'Bama are undoubtedly #1 and 2 right now. That being said, were Georgia to win the BCS in that scenario, Ohio State would have a compelling argument to be crowned the AP champion. Let's compare resumes:

That was one of the dumbest things ever. If my team, which happens to be Michigan, went undefeated and beat Ohio State yet were not ineligible for post season I would be elated.

I think a better analogy is a guy that says its ok to have a small dick because it makes it easier to deep throat.

Ohio State has a good team, Michigan has a good team. I hope they both keep getting better and they can have a national championship or six between the two over the next 20 years.

But if they'd beaten Alabama and Notre Dame to get there, then no, tOSU wouldn't have an argument at all.

Hey, the Buckeyes get to hang a Divisional Champs banner at the Shoe and bask in the glow of winning the only game they really care about: Michigan.

As a Penn State fan, I can whole heartedly agree that institutional problems merit big punishments, and tOSU is enjoying the fruits of Sweater Vest's blind eye. Among the many Buckeye fans I know, they've handled it better than many of my fellow PSU alumni.

And as a Big Ten fan, it is nice to know that I won't have to watch tOSU disappoint the rest of the group in the bowls this year (yeah, yeah, 2011 blah blah).

After the collapse of the Carr era, the DickRod years, and the decade of ownership by Jim Tressel, we see the Wolverine fan that embraced that one fleeting moment of hope. And then Coach Meyer and the Buckeyes mercilessly squashed it on Saturday.

Now we see his break from reality and the long slide into insanity, a realm of madness where the sterling achievement of getting smacked around by the SEC runner-up in the Cap One Bowl triumphs over the Buckeyes undefeated record. Kinda sad, really.

I went into the season thinking "well, since we can't play a bowl game, at least have a good season and, more importantly, beat Michigan".

Hell, I wasn't expecting them to have a perfect season, that is just icing on the cake. I don't care about a bowl game or a national title this year. They f-d up, they got caught, do your time. Any OSU fan who is whining that they "aren't getting their fair share" is an idiot. We had a great year, beat our hated rival, lets leave it at that. I am excited for next year.

Who in their right mind thinks it's awesome to not have the incentive of getting to the postseason?

You make it sound like 12-0 sesaons come along all the time.

If Ohio State went 4-8 this year, no one would give it a second thought. But 12-0? How could that not make the suspension so much more painful?

In case you didn't know, you'd be heading to the NCG right now to face Notre Dame in what should be one of the most celebrated years in Ohio State's history.

Excited about NEXT year? Man, whatever. You ought to be excited about THIS year. But you're not.

I'm sure Ohio State is sure glad that they decided to forego their bowl ban until this year...losing to Florida in the Gator bowl must have been so worth it. I was excited about this year, but our season is over now, so it's on to next year!

I accepted that we weren't going to a bowl game when the season started. I actually thought "Hey, wouldn't it be awesome if OSU went undefeated this year" just because it would be funny. And it is, I'm getting a kick out if because all you can do is laugh about it. I'm not bitter, I'm not depressed. We had an awesome season (granted, I think we could have done better, some games I thought shouldn't have been so close, I think a lot of luck was involved, but hey, a win is a win).

Hell, I am tickled that both the Buckeyes and Browns (again...a win is a win, despite the Steelers handing the game to them) won this weekend. Nothing could bring me down!

He hits Utah in 2008 and Boise St. in 2006, and he skips over Hawaii in 2007?

And take your they-didn't-deserve-it argument and cram it. The criteria is 'undefeated and did not reach title game' and nothing more. Hawaii meets those criteria. And he stops at 2004.

Seriously, I have half a mind to fire up my blog and do this damn list right. I got nothing better to do today.

Not necessarily. They'd have to win the Big Ten+1+1+2 title game first, and if they didn't they'd likely be dropped in favor of the SEC champion. (Granted, they already beat the... sigh... "Legends" Division winner once, and by a country mile too, but rematches sometimes have different results.) In a way they should be glad they can call themselves undefeated after 12-0 instead of having to go 13 or 14 games.
