I never knew the Brits tested in Australia and the French in Africa. I mean, it makes sense but it never occurred to me. What an utterly obscene force to be in the hands of man.

Just leaving this here. It's mesmerizing.

Awesome movie!

And if you aren't scared of the Chinese now, you will be after the last scene.

One of my all-time favorites. I had a DVD copy and watched it for years, then I lost my DVD a few years ago. Then I watched it recently on Netflix streaming, and there was a lot of new footage added.

/it's worth watching just for Shatner's narration

factoryconnection: unitednihilists: All that money (trillions of $) spent on munitions that were never ever (sorry 2 of them) used for there intended purpose.

Their intended purpose was deterrence. War was killing an increasing number of people every year for over a century, peaking during WWII with 65-75M dead total. We had two World Wars in 30 years. Since the advent of the nuclear age the rate has been more or less constant at 1M/year. Yes there have been regional conflicts and 1M/year is tragic, but when war is contained then you don't end up with mass starvation, imprisonments, disease and deprivation across entire theaters, continents, and disruptions of the global food chain. Some reading on the topic.

So, yeah, imagine if that trend had just continued

to fleece the taxpayer and strengthen the military-industrial complex.

Yeah, and that whole saving 65-75 million people every 20 years in world conflict is completely irrelevant, right? Its all about the military complex.

/ hint: EVERYTHING isnt about greed. ALOT of it is, and sure people made money, but all of history has not been driven by greed.

We haven't saved anybody. If anything, we've added many million of dead to the tally. WW1 was almost over when we jumped in... add several million dead (not to mention the flu epidemic, which undoubtedly wouldn't have happened had the war ended a few years earlier). Add up all the dead from our wars (overt, covert, and instigated) in S.E. Asia, Africa, and the mid-east, all those killed by dictators who were on the CIA payroll, and then get back with me.

And, did I mention that we fought WW2 on the side of Stalin and Mao? We even handed Stalin half of Europe when the war was over.

Your enemies enemy may seem like your friend, but that doesn't mean you're on the same side. The Soviets fought for themselves. You didn't hand anything to anyone, the Soviets took it. Actually, we did hand a shiat-ton (that's metric) of tools and supplies to the Soviets to allow them to fight the Wermacht to a standstill, whilst uprooting their factories and rebuilding them behind the Urals. You didn't have the power to hand over half of Europe to Stalin after the war.
