Gunny Highway: People who refer to their dogs as "kids" really bother me.
Carth: Keep your dog on a farking leash unless you're in a fenced in area. I don't care how well trained it is there are too many things that can kill it if you let it run around out of control.
hdhale: There is no dog worth dying for./thread//ya rly///don't give me the "you've never had a pet you wouldn't understand..." talk, I've had dogs and cats as pets, I repeat, there is no dog worth dying for
hdhale: There is no dog worth dying for.
The One True TheDavid: Wolves will die to save their pups and dogs will die to save their people.
MattyFridays: CSB time:During the Hurricane Sandy power outages, some idiots in NJ decided to run a generator inside their house. They got out, but last I checked, one of them was still in the ICU with potential brain damage.Unfortunately, they had two dogs in the house and one of them didn't make it.The absolute VENOM coming from dog owners who wanted these guys brought up on charges was amazing.
BronyMedic: LisaNeedsBraces:Well, the world would be pretty boring if we all shared the same opinion. Luckily, we don't.Well, I personally don't find tragic deaths like this entertaining. But then, I'm not a sociopath either. YMMV.
freewill: Cold_Sassy: Pets display love for their humans every day.Well, you're assuming it's love, as opposed to excitement about being fed.
The One True TheDavid: Psycoholic_Slag:No dog is worth ME dying for.Like I said upthread, I'm not so sure about that. My dog is my best friend ever and would clearly be distressed if I went away, let alone died in front of him, so it's easier to picture risking my life to save him than standing there with my fingers crossed. Having said that, I couldn't very well deny that to the ex's dog, cat or ferrets; I might even be tempted to go the distance for her. (In water I'd have to: the pets could swim but she'd sink like a stone.) It's not that the pets are people, it's that they're better.Other people, that depends.Given that in time of famine I'd feed people to my pets, or even their pets, there's little doubt involved. It's like this: at the top of my chart there's me, my pets, and the less than a dozen humans I feel real attachment to; then animals I know (mostly neighbor's pets) and humans I'd like to have grateful to me (especially hotties); then there's everybody else, bipedal and not, though animals might well always outrank strange people (and will always outrank people who get on my nerves). Martyrdom can be commendable but don't test me on that: I'm likelier to kill myself for my own reasons than to risk very much for any given person.Yes, I know I'm a self-centered cynical asshole. Consider that my opinion of the general run of humanity used to be much higher but decades of experience have shown the error of that.
GORDON: People who forgo having children and use pets, which don't actually love you and are incapable of having human emotion, as mortar to fill the hole in their empty lives are sad. Anyone who says otherwise is shouting into the mirror.
buzzcut73: Remember people, your dog can swim better than you can, and will also retain his body heat in cold water longer than you will.If the dog can't get out on his own, you -really- have no business going in there. (In ground pools excepted)
spentmiles: I run a sunset cruise on the coast near San Fran. When the weather turns cold this time of year, most of my business comes from no-kill shelters. They load the boat up with cats and dogs in cages. I take them out to sea and then they throw them overboard. There's about a .001% chance that any of them make it back to shore, but it's a chance, so they get to keep their no-kill status.Sometimes we have a few beers and then race the boat through swimming packs of drowning animals. It's like driving a blender. More fun and cheaper than gassing them all I suppose.
