Deserted Fear (death; don't worry if it's too slow in the beginning, it picks up and then really gets going towards the end)

Nefandus - Crown of Labour and Strength (black)

Fark everything else, listen to the new Inquisition

Gave it a listen...How the hell can anyone enjoy this? Rhythm, melody, harmony and soul. This shiat has none of them. To each their own I suppose but, maybe just maybe if you like this "music" you should evaluate your life and try to pinpoint the moment you decided that taste and style weren't for you.

/or not.

Progressive metal I'm listening to this week.

Standing Ovation - I Have Superhuman Powers - From Finland with an SOAD zaniness and vocal quality. With the farktastic lyric "My happy place is my pile of comic books"

The Great Gamble - Release The Kraken - From the USA, It's Obama's America, black guys doing Progressive Metal with a big Dream Theater influence

I love prog metal, but I just can't get into Enslaved.

Better recent blackened prog:

Ne Obliviscaris
A Forest of Stars
Cormorant (who unfortunately split up after two incredible albums so the vocalist/lyricist/bassist could make video games)

Only Kroda is real.

Sup dudes, I like Dismember too.

Adebisi: Better recent blackened prog:

Blackened prog you say?

Better Enslaved

Dude, I agree with you on all counts. However, it's not necessary to come in here and shiat on these guys' taste in music. I pop in these things every Sunday to see if there is a metal act I might actually enjoy. It hasn't happened yet, and I doubt it will-it's just not my thing, but don't be an ass.

I think Knife Storm would be a good name for a band or song....Thoughts Like Hammers is just ok.

Sometimes, when I'm gazing deep into my navel, I wonder how much better my life might have been if I liked the things that you like, instead of the things that you don't like. But then after a sigh and a quiet tear at my own insufficiencies, the moment passes and somehow my life goes on.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and remind me of those bitter moments. Someday I'll overcome whatever it is inside me that's holding me back from greatness, and when that day comes I just hope you'll be there to say "I told you so".

Meh, no thanks. Even the non guttural voice parts were meh to me.

After about two minutes it became very melodic and proggy, before returning to the throat cancer patient for a bit, then continuing to prog out. I normally dislike these Sunday Heavy metal things but this was one of the more listen-able than most.

Although I'm tempted to point out that the "vocalist" here sounds like he, in fact, is choking on a bag of dicks, I'll endeavor to be a tad more constructive.

If you'd like to enjoy some quality metal from Norway with a dash of prog and amazing vocals all around, check out old-school TNT as well as Pagan's Mind and Circus Maximus. As the Wendy's hottie says ... "Now that's better."

When I see 'prog metal', I'm thinking more of Blind Guardian. That was almost completely unlike BG.

If you're lurking, make a request. It may take a bit, but someone will generally fire something your way after a bit.

or you'll get told to do squats on a cucumber patch....

Blind Guardian plays power metal, not prog metal. You're right though, Enslaved is not like Blind Guardian.

To everyone complaining about vocals, perhaps this will be more to your liking.

Been binging on this album a lot over the weekend.

Yeah, this one left me scratching my head as well. Props to him for chasing what he wants, but it's like "hey, my band has a good amount of notice after our last album, and we just toured. Time to do something else."

I guess I don't see how a day job keeps anyone from continuing writing / releasing music.

This song has all 3. Maybe you should learn what these aspects actually are before going around announcing that they're missing. Whether it has soul or not is a bit more subjective.

Try working in video games and you'd understand. It takes up a lot of your creative mindspace in and out of work.
