Really glad to hear Maggie wasn't raped and they didn't show her naked in those conditions. I couldn't watch the episode otherwise. I would have stopped and sent angry letters. Totally fine with nudity, but didn't want to see that for Maggie when it's forced. Zombie guts and blood are not that disturbing.

kumanoki: By the way, I highly recommend the Telltale Games Walking Dead episodes. They're 400 points each on XBLA, so a grand total of 20.00. The game mechanics are nothing new, but the writing, the voice acting...superb. Living with the consequences of your actions is a major theme. Your group holds you accountable for the decisions you make throughout the entire game, and these aren't your standard good/bad choices. The 'right' answer is ambiguous, up for debate...and you have to stay alive.
No joke, it's a strong dark horse contender for GOTY.

I love the game but it's not as ground-breaking as some people think. There are really no real consequences for the decisions you make, the main storyline is the same no matter what you do. Still, I highly recommend it as a good story through an interesting medium.

I will never get that. The show depicts multiple murderers as acceptable heroes, violence galore, of the domestic variety even on occasion. Matricide, sure. But one rape and people tweek out?

kumanoki: My wife just made a really good point: There hasn't been a lot of emotional connection with Ass-kicker these past couple of episodes...are they setting the baby up to die?

Good point. But if they skipped over the rape thing then it's a good bet that they'll soften whatever happens to the baby. Then again, Sophia.

kumanoki: Gigantos: AMC better not pull a stunt similar to Breaking Bad and have the last half of the season start up next October.

They started the last half of Season 2 of TWD the week after the Superbowl.

I think after that season their reasoning was "TWD isn't really very Christmas-y" and gore over the holidays didn't test well.

I've mentioned this in a TWD thread before, but there is a distinct difference between wanton violence and sexual assault and torture. Most times the show spends more than a couple seconds on a death it's for emotional payoff as with Lori's death (which you don't see). Skip talking about the would-be rape, did you notice how they didn't spend much time depicting the violence against Glenn? Sure, Merl punched him a couple times, but it doesn't show Glenn getting beaten to a pulp, you just hear it. Same with Shane beating up Carol's husband and Merl's arm. Ultimately, yes there's definitely a lot of violence in TWD, but it's not exactly any that's drawn out enough to have the same effect as a rape scene would. Do you think American viewers would be able to handle the violence of say Ichi the Killer with the same due regard as TWD?

On the same point, it would play in to the overall narrative if it had actually happened because the Governor is an evil fark-head. It still makes sense with Maggie ratting out the group when the Governor threatened Glenn's life even though both characters had been through worse than any in that entire town minus Andrea.

Tencolin: If you're looking for some Walking Dead goodness, pick up Tell Tale's game if you haven't. The characters, storyline, and voice acting is all top notch. I'm about to start my second play through in order to see what different decisions lead to in the end.

Especially since... the same consideration was not given for Michonne. The number of threads out in internet land talking about 'I sure hope they don't show Michonne getting rape' were practically non-existent. The number of threads rubbing hands with glee about how possibly graphic Michonne's rape was going to be, however, ....

shiat's gonna get real on TV next weekend. Speaking of shows with actors from The Wire, did anyone feel a little weird cheering for the person who showed up at the end of Boardwalk Empire to save the day? It's not exactly someone who you're used to thinking of as the cavalry, and the writers managed to turn it into a fark yeah moment when he shows up to help out Nucky.

This episode brought up one of my biggest little questions about this series: where are all the dogs?
Well trained dogs would be invaluable! My dog alerts when necessary, but shuts up immediately on command. My dog is not aggressive (so he wouldn't just attack zombies and would come when called), does what he is told and tells me when my space is being invaded. He would be a huge help in a zombie apocalypse. Humans have been using dogs for survival and stuff for two hundred and fifty thousand years (according to DNA evidence, much less according to archeological evidence), you would think that they would be valuable in this scenario.
Where are all the dogs?

2012-11-26 01:41:28 AM
Dogs have been depicted at least three times. Once, scavenging in atlanta, the three chihuahuas owned by the vatos, and a golden retriever in woodbury.

Mad_Radhu: hubiestubert: How sad is it, that the video game had a deeper plot and more involved characters?

My daughter got me to download the game, and while the gameplay was basic, the plot and characters had me hooked. And for the most part, the characters in the game were at least consistent...

SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 1 OF THE GAME

Did anyone else decide to let Carley die because she was simply too stupid to let live? She was a good shot and all, but the scene where she couldn't figure out that you needed batteries for a radio to work, followed up by her putting the batteries in backwards when you gave her some pretty much sealed her fate for me. I just decided that she was a liability.

Not to mention that being a good shot doesn't help all that much because the shots will draw more walkers than going in with an axe or screwdriver, and eventually you are going to run out of ammo. I just figured that Doug was the better choice to save, but apparently only 29% of people agree.

/Haven't played the other episodes yet, so I don't know if saving Doug instead will work out or not.

I just didn't save her because she had a damn gun and all Doug had was Beiber hair.

- Darabont era Season one, before budget cuts
- Darabont era Season one, before budget cuts
- Mazzara era Season three, after budget cuts

Like others, I don't even remember the golden retriever.

What I don't get is, how are we supposed to believe that zombies are fast enough to chase and eat dogs and cats? it's like how single zombies are allegedly able to chase down deer. Come on, now. Zombies are single-minded right up until they're distracted by the next shiny thing or loud noise, in this show. And what happened to all the alleged killer dogs? Feral dog pack versus Atlanta horde... take the dogs.

But, eh, AMC is cheap.

That and plus you can't display a pack of dogs without opening a huge pandora's box of issues. The last thing you want is even the rumor of negative treatment with regards to animals. As a huge Falcons fan once told me "Dogs are the new white women, you just don't fark with em"

No way to survive fast zombie dogs without getting bitten. They would horde up and you would be farked.
But I can't see the zombies catching dogs the way they are depicted.
Just one of my WTF questions. No biggie.

A big question is what happens when an animal bites a walker. It could be that the zombie flesh is poisonous to dogs, so the aggressive feral dogs may have died when they attacked the walkers and bit into the zombies. The usefulness of dogs also depends on how they handle a zombie filled world, like the dog chapter in World War Z detailed. Would they be useful in detecting people who are bitten and are hiding it, or would the constant scent of the dead basically make them go so apeshiat that they would be useless for most jobs? Could you train puppies that were more used to the scent of the walkers to be more useful? WWZ does veer a bit into survival porn, but I did enjoy the worldbuilding that was done in exploring questions like this.

Just finished watching: damn I have a serious lump in my stomach.

Anyone else notice the first shot of the Woodbury guard on the wall? His rifle barrel seemed REALLY bent.

The Governor actually seems scared. I'm actually kinda hoping for a wholesale slaughter of everyone in the town. Does that make me a bad person?

I would assume zombie flesh is toxic. So either the dogs realize this and avoid them or they tried to eat them and died.

WienerButt: How come axel isn't with them? He said he'd go. At least verbalize that he should stay behind.

Yeah, I was kinda wondering how they were going to fit 5 people and all that gear into the Hyundai.

Gonzee:

Your dog sounds like a prince (princess?), but there are a ton of airhead dogs out there who bark endlessly at everything. Little furry dinner-bells, drawing zombies' attention for miles around.

Big scary barking dogs can be intimidating and have been man's best-friend/perimeter-alarm for centuries, but in a zombie apocalypse their instinct to bark at any intruder would be a MASSIVE liability.

Hence, there's not a lot of dogs left alive in the Walking Dead.

IronTom: /Hope walkers can;t bite through duct tape

They can't. We've seen this demonstrated twice this season (once with Milton and once with Glenn tonight). I expect to see everyone sporting duct tape sleeves in the future.

And watching the "In Memoriam" segment on TD I just noticed how when Glenn killed the walker with the chair arm it came out its eye socket and the eyeball dangled off the end. Nice touch.

Oh, and why hasn't Andrea mentioned what she learned at the CDC to Milton? Seems like the brain scan she watched of Jenner's wife would be pretty convincing evidence that there's nothing left. If he isn't already convinced after his little experiment, that is.

I think she's just realizing how very little the fortress she rolled in to really knows about the zombies and she's playing innocent until she can use that to her advantage.

SO more of a thoughtful, selfish asshole.

Yea or that. They do seem to put her in situations where her experience on the road is vastly superior to the knowledge of the camp yet she more or less stays quiet about correcting them.

fusillade762: I think it's probably more likely the writers just forgot.

They must have LOST that previous plot point.

I haven't read the comics, so I can't compare, but I think they're setting up the Governor to be more of a bullshiat artist than paramilitary badass in the show.

But I'm not sure. One minute, he's taking out a platoon of Guardsmen without losing a single man, or suffering a single casualty. The next, he's got a crossbowman on the wall that can't shoot for shiat, and his inner circle seems pretty limited to 3-5 guys, two of which died last week.

And unless anyone would like to argue that Rick and the gang are going to live happily-ever-after at Woodbury, I think that group of townspeople is farked once Rick kills what's left of their defense force.
