Any season that ends without Johnson winning it is a good season

At least the next race will be on Fox.

What will I do after the PIT game at 1 today?

1st No- #NASCAR Sunday. If you work IN the sport, you're probably relaxing. If you're a fan OF the sport, you're probably convulsing.

College football isn't filling the #NASCAR void. I'm just not used to a sport with a playoff system that everyone constantly argues about.

Just when I'm finally appreciating the end of the political ads...here come the holiday "He went to Jared!" plague...

Here's the truth - LOTS of guys go to Jared. What the commercials omit is part where they look at price tag, then haul ass out of Jared.

Are they? SHR, I'm assuming, and I know Danica comes pre-sponsored but I thought the team as a whole was hurting for sponsorships having lost both Army and Office Depot.

I'm really surprised that NASCAR doesn't have the problem the back of the F1 grid has with pay drivers. Guys whose superlicense credentials are questionable get jobs because they're backed by Venezuelan, Indian, or Russian oil interests.

Been that way since the beginning of time, really. You think Patrick Menard got his ride on talent, or that Mikey Waltrip kept his ride for all these years because he's just that damn good?

Mikey kept his ride for years because he
1: owned the team and
2: Napa and Aarons loved him for some reason.

Now, Paul Menard, he was the ultimate case of "Have Daddy's money for sponsorship, will give you that money to drive your second rate cars ."

At least NASCAR has a rediculously short off season.

They need to do something about the sleeper races we've had.

That's where he got the NAPA sponsorship. But, he kept a ride as a backmarker from 2005 until his retirement because NAPA and Aarons kept sponsoring him.

And honestly, if he had stayed with DEI, NAPA would have, as well, and they would have had two fully sponsored cars the whole time.

As a big fan, i have to say that this was overall a stunningly dull season. There were highlights here and there, but the way they modified the car bodies for "safety" made too many races little more than high speed parades.

I think the problems at DEI were structural as much as anything, ie Theresa was just in way over her head. That went from being a premier team to backmarker in the space of a couple of years.

I'm also not so sure they weren't cheating: the dominance at restrictor plate tracks ended at the exact moment NASCAR hired a guy who knew what a traction control system looks like.

Next year's car supposedly fixes that issue by taking away some of the nice, clean aerodynamics they had that contributed to the boringness, as well as giving the cars some actual visual differences between the various "manufacturers" (i.e. the Fords will look somewhat like the actual Ford car it is based off of, the Chevys and Toyotas likewise), as well as lightening them by about 100lbs overall. Hopefully the new cars enable the drivers to actually drive like NASCAR cars should drive, and bring back some nice bump-and-grind style racing.

I actually liked this season. a bit boring, BUT a lot more interesting than 20 laps *crash* *everyone pits* 20 laps *crash* *everyone pits*, etc. The first few races, it was fun watching teams try to remember how green flag pit stops worked...

Now, the pairing in Daytona, etc? fark that...

Mmm... the Grandson has a new form of racing to ruin. Maybe that means he'll turn his attention away from NAACAR proper and devote all his time to shiatting on his new toy, and someone can reverse the damage he's done to NASCAR in his coke and booze fueled haze.

I would think plate races are where traction control would be the least help. Road courses and tracks where it's easy to spin the rear tires coming off a corner would be where you would gain the most advantage.

Right. The longstanding rumor at the time was that the DEI cars actually figured out some sort of underside aero advantage involving one of those gray zones in the rules. Eventually the other teams caught on, then the COT completely eliminated it shortly before the team merged with Ganassi.
