In 1998, I was the luckiest kid in the world. I was 17 and working in a comic book store. The store was owned by a chinese family whose daughter was in my class, and I remember several days I had to help coordinate cross-town searches for those got-damned tamagotchis. The store had 2 phone lines and I had to call retailers and pass the info to the mom and kids on their cell phone. I don't understand why they didn't just try to get a case of them from a distributor. They just wanted every single variation for themselves and I think they were about $20 each; the article didn't mention prices.

Then one day they started carrying beanie babies in the store, and I was no longer the luckiest kid in the world.
