John Denver liked his Rocky Mountain high, but he wasn't a genius when it came to geography.


John Denver never set foot in WV when he wrote the song. Explains a lot.

I remember when this song was in the running to be the VA state song since they wanted to replace Carry me back to old Virginny since it's pretty dated and racist. Seemed odd at the time since he keeps saying WEST VA but less so now that people have pointed out the geography being off for that state.
