Fist of the North Star with Gary Daniels was awesome. I love cheesy martial arts flicks in the 80s style, and dystopian sci-fi movies. It was funny and entertaining.

Well if you glue the three-part anime into a single film that almost counts, right?

That series never happened and I have dedicated my life to destroying every copy of it even though it does not exist.

what is the name of that property?

wait...there are white people on fark?

White people? On my Fark?

Well, shiat.

If anyone needs me I'm moving over to Reddit.

Everyone looks like they're black, sitting in a blue box, to me.

Oh, now, my favorites among you are highlighted in green. My clever little aliens.

It's actually named GUNNM, but it's alright. Not everybody is a big manga connoisseur like me.

Honest Bender: Really well done series, too.

I re-read the whole thing every couple of years. It sill makes me tear up in places. The whole world is just incredibly done, and the character development is absolutely stunning. You actually get to see characters grow up and change over time. It's a must read.

Pheh. I've seen even stranger things done to Akira.

thanks for the info. I was an anime whore in the late 90's and early 00's and didn't recognise it.

sorta nsfw

Sigh...when is the pr0n industry gonna stop doing this?! Good God, and they wonder why the industry's going to hell in a handbasket.

Oh and I almost forgot: Doesn't that technically count as some form of child porn? (FYI: They're all supposed to be 14 years old.)

The nonexistent, ink-and-paint, very-not-human Sailor Scouts are from 14 to 18, yes.

The living, breathing, actual humans pretending to be them are 18 and over.

So, not child porn. Let's not crusade about/against non-existing fictional characters.

I'm wondering how badly they would screw up a live action Ghost in the Shell.

"As of 2008, DreamWorks acquired the rights to produce a live-action film adaptation of the original manga with Steven Spielberg. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are confirmed producers; Jamie Moss was originally hired to adapt the manga into a screenplay but in October 2009 it was announced that Laeta Kalogridis had replaced Moss as writer."

Pretty f***in badly, but DreamWorks/Spielberg is not the worst possible person to do it. I can certainly think of worse options. If it comes to be I hope I've set my expectations suitably low. My biggest concern is that there may end up with an extraterrestrial-related deus ex machina twist ending... I will go absolutely frothy if that happens.

/cannot possibly be set in any contemporary city.

Hasn't James Cameron been sitting on the rights to that for a couple decades now?

He was going to do it after Avatar, but that was such a huge success he decided he had to do the sequels; Avatar 2: The humans come back and just nuke the planet from orbit, and Avatar 3: Three hours of the smoldering husk of Pandora in glorious 3D because theres still so much more $tory to tell.

Avatar 2: This Time We're Combining "Schindler's List", "Apocalypse Now", And "The Dark Crystal", With A Dash Of "Godzilla"

Avatar 3: This Time We're Combining "C.H.U.D.", "District 9", "Men In Black", And "Muppets From Space"

Not at all...just saying you don't want to veer into really creepy territory here.

So Kaneda now looks like a forty year old man instead of the teenager he's supposed to be. I don't think there are words in either English or Japanese for how lame that is.

Kaneda was badass, but not in the all-American "look at my muscles and five o'clock shadow" way. He was shorter than average and skinny. Like a barely-pubescent teen boy should be.

I hope they get Channing Tatum and 21 Jump Street the heck out of it. Then at least it can be ironically enjoyable.

PacManDreaming: moothemagiccow: How? Akira was completed decades ago. It's readily available if you want to read it.

Just because the graphic novel is readily available doesn't mean the clowns responsible for the movies will follow it.

They only used the first book, but it turned out all right. If you want the full story try the whole series.

It depends on who would do the adaptation. If they got Richard Epcar (voice of Batou, did script work and directing for the dubs of the movies and Solid State Society), it might stand a chance. Then again, I hear there's talk of a third season of Stand Alone Complex, so he'd be busy.

/Attended his GITS panel at NebrasKon this year.
