There's no element of the story that references race, it's not like the Airbender movie where a pallete swap actually alters the meaning of something. Modern cities (i.e. cities in the last century or so) have always been pretty poly-racial to begin with, economic distinctions being more important.

It's that everything from the long development cycle to the various actors and directors suggested scream "this movie will suck".
