Carla Etude Fanfare/Chloe (Track 6 and 7 from the album 'The Fox' hey subby picked 2 so can I)

2012-11-24 11:52:45 AM
I'm with Subby

/and I think technically that's just one track

2012-11-24 11:52:46 AM
"Bad Side of the Moon" is my favorite if I have to pick just one.

2012-11-24 11:52:53 AM
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Followed by Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Tiny Dancer, Benny and the Jets, and Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is not only his best song, it's his best album.

2012-11-24 11:58:19 AM
Levon.

I'm not saying it's his "best" but it's my favorite, and one that still tugs at what I like to think of as my heart.

2012-11-24 12:03:47 PM
My favorite is 'Tiny Dancer'.

2012-11-24 12:04:03 PM
The Border Song.

2012-11-24 12:04:58 PM
Although on any given day I could say that about 'Levon' and 'Rocket Man'.

Not like it could be anything else

Yes, it could be, and I hate it when thread titles are phrased in this manner.

That said, I'm going with Coco LaFemme and picking "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."

"Blessed" would rank a close second.

Coco LaFemme: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Followed by Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Tiny Dancer, Benny and the Jets, and Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting.

Good list, but I'd add Daniel at the end.

Subby is correct.

You forgot Rocketman.

The wife and I picked Your Song as our first dance song. Our first concert together was Sir Elton.

That said, I'd go for Funeral For a Friend-Love Lies Bleeding or Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters.

Totally forgot that one! Ooh, that might narrowly edge out Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

The Last Song may not be his best ever, but it absolutely guts me every time I hear it. So many friends gone...

2012-11-24 12:58:15 PM
I could add that The biatch is Back is just a frickin' kick ass song. It was a staple of Pre-Gaming when I was younger.

That was the song that played at the end of And The Band Played On, right? If we're thinking of the same song, I agree; that song is like the musical equivalent of Jurassic Bark.

Yup. That song hits me every time too. Didn't he record it in memory of Ryan White?

Honorable mention: Runaway Train.

Anything from the Lion King, you know this to be true.

2012-11-24 01:47:37 PM
Madman Across the Water is my favorite.

But, yeah, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is his best all around.

2012-11-24 01:54:03 PM
Far and away my favorite lyrics of his (or maybe in rock history) are:

What do you think you'll do then
I bet that'll shoot down your plane
It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics
To set you on your feet again

2012-11-24 02:38:51 PM
Don't let your son go down on me
Hold me closer tony danza

Depends on how you look at it.  I believe its listed so on the album.  And the CD has it as one track.  But it wasn't intended to be.  After both songs were complete it became apparent that they worked really well together (and synch up in the same key).

I don't know. I do know he sang Skyline Pigeon at the funeral. Some of his late 80s tracks I've always loved were I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues and Sad Songs Say So Much.

Also forgot, Blue Eyes is another underrated track.

Pfft! Love Lies Bleeding is a Thompson Twins song, man.

Ballad of a Well Know Gun.

Everybody who agrees stand over here >>>>>

Everyone else... OFF MY LAWN.

What about the one where he over-uses the piano/keyboards? No, not that one. No, not that one either. No. I remember it had really melodramatic and kind of sappy lyrics. No, that's not it. No. No. No. No.....etc.

It may not be your favorite Elton John song, but it sounds just like it.

Elton John really was the king of writing lyrics that are sure to be misunderstood.

Fine choice Subby, though I'm partial to Indian Sunset.
/so many great songs

Usually I would agree with Subbers, but I friggin' LURVE Tumbleweed Connection.

/Where to now, St. Peter?

I don't have an opinion on this question, but staring at this album art, for hours as a young boy, must have certainly had some sort of an affect on me.

I can't argue with subby's pick. Awesome song(s).

What, no love for "Nikita"???

/kidding, I agree with subby

Sixty Years On is an excellent song - doesn't get mentioned a lot. One of my favorite live albums is the one he did in Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

2012-11-24 03:41:25 PM

Ennuipoet: Levon.

2012-11-24 03:42:04 PM

PhiloeBedoe: My favorite is 'Tiny Dancer'.

Hold me closer, Tony Danza.

Grey Seal
Alice
Levon

Subby's pick is way down on my list.
