Honesty, sure, but everyone thinks it. Only the bad act on it.

Paint Your Wagon is my favorite Clint Eastwood comedy vehicle that didn't involve an orangutan.

I'm assuming that we're not counting Gran Torino as a comedy.

That, or shame on keeping their information hidden so the prior homeowners can't ask for it's return. Circumstances may be that after time or through the sale of the property it's rightfully theirs, but it still seems a bit off putting to me for them to herald one party for being honest and yet they are not willing to do the same for the rightful owner.

Personal property left behind after closing usually belongs to the new owner, unless it was specifically stated otherwise in the sale, so the current owners are the rightful owners as far as I see it.

Stealing half of something is not actually any different from stealing all of it. If you're going to be a goddamn thief at least have the balls to commit.

I'm very glad the article made it explicitly clear several times that they can't guarantee finding a gold stash every time they make a house call, because I would have believed that this company finds a gold stash at every house call and I would have called them so that they could find me my very own gold stash. Thanks to this article I am spared the expense of installing an HVAC I don't need and much disappointment.

Back in the early 1980's I had a job installing mobile phones and two way radios. We got a contract to install telephones in a fleet of 12 stretch limousines. Among the items we fund under the back seats was an autographed photo of Marilyn Chambers and a 100 dollar bill. When we tried to give these items to the owner of the fleet, he just smiled and said we could keep anything we found. But he did admit to planting the 100 dollar bill just to see if we would bring it to his attention.

We framed the photo of Marilyn and hung it on the wall of the shop and had a real nice lunch with the $100 tip.

The article writer is representative of the usual crap-fest info-tainment they call 'news' these days on our local Sacramento CBS affiliate. They impart no real knowledge but insist on stating the obvious.

You don't know if they haven't got hold of the old owners, because that's none of our business, either.

Yeah if you left your stash of gold in the house you moved out of, you'd be the original owner, but not the rightful owner.

The best things in life are dirty!

A good place to look for gold is the floor of a Pakistani goldsmith's shop, especially if it tamped earth. There are people who search for gold dust and nuggets in the gutters in such places and they used to do it in the gold district in places like New York and Amsterdam.

Here in Ottawa, the Royal Canadian Mint is on a cliff top above the Ottawa River. Several million dollars worth of gold have been dredged from the river sediments and there may be as much as $100 million of lost gold in all.

As Terry Pratchett's recent non-Diskworld novel, Dodger, reveals to some readers, there were people who scavenged lost coins and jewelry, etc., from the sewers of London in the Nineteenth Century. They were called "toshers" and the loot was called "tosh". Sometimes they returned sentimental valuables (such as wedding rings) to their owners for a reward, but mostly they took them to gold smiths like Old Solomon in the novel.

A certain amount of gold is used for industrial or artistic purposes and can not be recovered (gilding of frames, furniture, food, etc.) but most of the gold ever mined is still carefully guarded by banks and jewellers and recycled endlessly. Gold weighs 19.2 grams per cubic centimeter. That much gold would be worth about $40-50 at current high prices. A circulating gold coin would thus be about the size of a dime, easy to lose. Larger coins would be made of electrum (gold and silver alloy) or else have higher denominations, such as $100, $200, $500 or $1000 dollars.

Clipping coins by paring them around the edges was a major problem when gold and silver (or even bronze and copper) were used for coins and milling the edges with fine lines was invented to reveal clipping to the user and reduce this crime.

Clipping and wear on soft gold are two reasons why I think the Gold Bugs are nuts. There is no way to prevent governments from debasing money (thus "printing" more whenever they please) or to prevent people from passing bad money for good. Gold is not a really good foundation for a currency. Trust is the only real foundation for a currency, so fiat currencies it is.

However, to this day, Paint Your Wagon is the BEST musical film starring both Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood.
