KiwDaWabbit: Also, according to Wikipedia, Oklahoma State was the national champion just last year.

last year according to wikipedia, Alabama was the consensus champion. LSU and Ok St are in no way recognized as champions or sharing a championship last year.

I don't think we'll see two SEC teams play.

If ND beats USC, Silas Redd would have left PSU which went 8-4 in his absence to a 8-4 PSU team. I don't think ANYONE would have bet on USC tying PSU in total wins this season.

Also, Wisconsin just lost 2 in a row to clinch the Big 10 division.

Wait, you used a Wikipedia article to prove a point and then used the same article to disprove that point?

I'm going with CFBDW for having the most solid information on it and am going to just discount what sources like Winchestertonfieldville Gazette have to say on the subject.

you don't know that. you disappeared after my earlier response, but my points still stand (find them if you want). i hate notre dame, but this is the way college football always does it. undefeated and have the right name, you're in the title conversation.

Notre Dame isn't in a BCS conference. They're a cute story, like a Boise State or a Miami (Ohio) or a Hawai'i. But they don't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as, say, Alabama or Georgia or Florida. Those three schools, you think continued greatness throughout history.

Most people sure don't know their college football history.

Florida and Georgia have five national championships combined, and three of those were due to freaks of nature (Tim Tebow and Herschel Walker, respectively). These teams haven't enjoyed "continued greatness throughout history". They've been relevant mostly within the last 30 years. With all due respect, Florida and Georgia are relative newcomers to success at the highest levels. People generally have short memories, and it just so happens that college football was also played before 1980.

Alabama is, of course, a much different story regarding "continued greatness throughout history". I'll give you that one.

Actually UGA was winning NCs back in the 30s-40s, I think only 42 is officially recognized though....

Their official website claims 1942 and 1980. I would think that if anywhere would artificially inflate those numbers, it would be their official website.

I know what it says but other sites give them titles, don't act like you weren't wrong, UGA was relevant for a lot longer than 30 years. Its also why spurrier has such a hard on for beating UGA, they always lost or kept him from a NC so he acts like he doesn't car ...

I was wrong because the Macon Telegraph said they won a national championship in 1927. Okay.

College football has been around for 142 years and there are 355 claimed national championships according to Wikipedia. Also, according to Wikipedia, Oklahoma State was the national champion just last year.

This is getting pretty dumb.

No I was saying look at that link someone posted earlier there are shiatload of NC awarded or listed as awarded and the fact you said they were only relevant the past 30 years. 1942 is not the last 30 years, just sayin'.

They are, and they're not going. Oregon is the one team in the top 5 other than GA that I think can hang with the Tide right now. We gotta play GA for the right to play in the NC, so I'm rooting for a USC win just so the rest of the country's heads collectively explode when it's an all SEC title game again.

coolio mack: Had a BCS question for anyone that might know this: Say Notre Dame wins tonight and makes the title game ND vs SEC champ. Can the SEC get more than one at large team into a BCS bowl? I was reading the rules and I think I'm missing something here.

5. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 4, and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 3 in the final BCS Standings, that team will become an automatic qualifier, provided that no at-large team from the same conference qualifies for the national championship game.

6. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 5, and if no team qualifies under paragraph No. 5 and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 4 in the final BCS Standings, that team will become an automatic qualifier provided that no at-large team from the same conference qualifies for the national championship game.

So right now Alabama, Georgia, and Florida are 2-3-4, and Oregon is 5. Assuming Stanford goes on to win today, Florida and Oregon won't be playing in their title game so they'll hold their spots. So I'm assuming that the SEC championship loser will be falling out of a BCS bowl, is that correct?

That depends on if the game is a blowout or not and even then I'm not sure, last year the sugar took Arkansas even though they weren't even near the sec game.

I think we need relevancy rankings pulled from thin air by sports "journalists" to argue over too. We could have one RCS game played after the end of the season to find out which team is most relevant

Of everyone who is left, I'd most like to see Notre Dame take the championship, but if they go down tonight, the next on my list is a Florida-Georgia rematch because 1) it would be two teams from the same division of the same conference playing for the national championship for the second straight year and 2) it would be a rematch of arguably the worst game of the year. The CIA should use replays of that game to torture terrorists.

2012-11-24 08:37:38 PM
That's a pretty impressive throw, to chuck it that far down the field, to a receiver who isn't able to see the ball, and still hit him right in the hands.

Yeah that scenario isn't too hard to come up with. USC wins tonight, UGA beats Alabama in the SEC championship would probably leave UGA at number one and floriduh at number two.

sure. notre dame loses to usc. georgia beat bama in the sec championship game. oregon loses the pac-potato champ game to ucla. florida state loses to georgia tech in the acc. not sure if you would need south carolina to beat clemson or not, but i'm saying there's a bcs trolling chance...

Yeah, more or less. Once my team is out of it (which is typically the first half of September), I like to see chaos in the BCS system. I cheer for it to fall flat on it's face year in and year out. The BCS National Championship presents an intriguing matchup maybe once every five years in my opinion.
