That's why the next-to-last exclamation point should be replaced with an ironic "1".

you don't know that. you disappeared after my earlier response, but my points still stand (find them if you want). i hate notre dame, but this is the way college football always does it. undefeated and have the right name, you're in the title conversation.

Notre Dame isn't in a BCS conference. They're a cute story, like a Boise State or a Miami (Ohio) or a Hawai'i. But they don't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as, say, Alabama or Georgia or Florida. Those three schools, you think continued greatness throughout history.

Most people sure don't know their college football history.

Florida and Georgia have five national championships combined, and three of those were due to freaks of nature (Tim Tebow and Herschel Walker, respectively). These teams haven't enjoyed "continued greatness throughout history". They've been relevant mostly within the last 30 years. With all due respect, Florida and Georgia are relative newcomers to success at the highest levels. People generally have short memories, and it just so happens that college football was also played before 1980.

Alabama is, of course, a much different story regarding "continued greatness throughout history". I'll give you that one.

Been in Tally for 3 years now (wife doing her post-doc) and lived in Gainesville for 15 before that. G-ville might be hick, but Tally is southern Georgia. There's at least as many drunks and women-beaters.

I know what it says but other sites give them titles, don't act like you weren't wrong, UGA was relevant for a lot longer than 30 years. Its also why spurrier has such a hard on for beating UGA, they always lost or kept him from a NC so he acts like he doesn't care when he burns up if they lose.

I was wrong because the Macon Telegraph said they won a national championship in 1927. Okay.

College football has been around for 142 years and there are 355 claimed national championships according to Wikipedia. Also, according to Wikipedia, Oklahoma State was the national champion just last year.

This is getting pretty dumb.

Had a BCS question for anyone that might know this: Say Notre Dame wins tonight and makes the title game ND vs SEC champ. Can the SEC get more than one at large team into a BCS bowl? I was reading the rules and I think I'm missing something here.

5. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 4, and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 3 in the final BCS Standings, that team will become an automatic qualifier, provided that no at-large team from the same conference qualifies for the national championship game.

6. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 5, and if no team qualifies under paragraph No. 5 and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 4 in the final BCS Standings, that team will become an automatic qualifier provided that no at-large team from the same conference qualifies for the national championship game.

So right now Alabama, Georgia, and Florida are 2-3-4, and Oregon is 5. Assuming Stanford goes on to win today, Florida and Oregon won't be playing in their title game so they'll hold their spots. So I'm assuming that the SEC championship loser will be falling out of a BCS bowl, is that correct?
