Nurglitch: They were going to fire the inspectors before the recall was a twinkle in the Industry Minister's eye. It was a dumb idea then, and it just makes the Harper Government^tm look even less competent. Mind you, they're also firing statisticians, scientists, and so on. It's going to be years before Canada recovers from their short-sighted policies.

Anyhow, on with distracting people from real problems by discussing Prime Minister Sweater-vest's helmet hair.

Sounds like Harper is Canada's GWB, at least from where I'm sitting in the U.S. Lots of short-sighted decisions, gutting education, easing environmental protections, etc. Is that a fair statement?

Once the taxpayer is forced to cover the inevitable housing correction it'll demolish social services for the better part of a generation, if not longer. Almost as if planned. Worst PM in Canadian history.

If you spent less money on entitlement programs for poor people to have children they can't afford and retirements they refuse to save for you would be able to keep them.

You made your bed NDerPer, now you have to lie in it.

We are forecasting a balanced budget by 2016 and are ranked as having a freer economy than the US despite having free health care, well regulated banks and higher taxes.

Yet you still have to fire all of your statisticians and meat inspectors because the NDerP insists that lazy Canadians should not have to deal with the consequences of their bad decisions. Nice ad hominem that in no way refutes my argument.

I also love whenever we propose to make our economy more free and regulate our banks properly you NDerPers call us racists, despite Canada being lily white (Sorry - Chinese engineers and Indian computer programmers don't count as diversity- get rid of those and Canada is 95% white).

You are a drooling retard.

THAT is an ad hominem.

There is no ad hominem present in the post you quoted. If you're going to wield fallacious reasoning like a cudgel, at least get your fallacies correct.

I don't think I've ever seen so much fail in one post before.

1) "nice ad Hominem", how is me talking about the Canadian economy an ad Hominem attack?
2) I'm a Liberal. As in a member of the Liberal Party. I've never voted NDP
3) I've never call Americans or Republicans racist
4) Canada is 80% white (same as US)
5) The Canadian Conservative party is the one laying off Statisticians and inspectors, engineers, scientists, researchers etc...etc...

I'm really not sure what you are on about but Canada and I think all-in-all Canada is doing a pretty good job despite the regressive policies of our current Conservative Government. We have a healthy democracy and will give helmet hair his pink slip when we are tired of him.

This is Canada's Benghazi. I have a theory that bacon is somehow involved. Probably to cover up the hamburger. Buns may even be involved, nice buns. I hear that somebody might be getting the pickle on the side. Something doesn't look right here. There needs to be an investigation. Who knew what and when? What should I have for breakfast? I'm just asking questions here. Is a bacon burger a "legitimate" breakfast?

Harper's on a short leash. Anytime we choose to merge our two left parties, he is done in the next election.

... Yeah no. Not with Jack Layton dead and Justin Trudeau a major contender for the Liberal party leadership. The Liberals and NDP aren't going to put aside a half century of major differences (chief among them that the NDP are actually liberal, and the Liberals are centrists whose main political strategy is to let the winds blow them into and out of power) to merge into a single party. That's just not going to happen.

Most likely scenario: Liberals lose ground in Ontario due to Dalton McGuinty's shenanigans tainting the brand name. Former Liberal supporters choose to support the NDP as a protest vote against both the Liberals and Conservatives, and the NDP becomes far more powerful. (Which it in turn goes and pisses away by pandering to the extreme portion of the party.) Conservatives see this potential and exploit it via the politics of fear and division with things like "Those SOCIALISTS are going to take your money away!" which will be enough to keep most disillusioned Conservative voters from switching parties. (at worst, they just won't come out to vote.) And we get another 4 years of Harper's idiocy and ideology.

Wow you're dumb. You DO know that austerity has NEVER been shown to succeed in any fashion other than to increase the income and wealth gaps Canada has a revenue problem, not a spending problem, you incredible nitwit. Enjoy as your benefis are cut and your wage stagnates because of the very neoliebral policies that you endorse. lol a "balanced budget" doesnt mean fark-all if no one is investing in production, unemployment stays high, wages remains too low to support a consumer society, and we all ahve to work until were 70. Again it amazes me to no end how short conservative memories are - they pretend as if A) The Great Depression and recovery never happened; or B) they make laughable attempts to take credit for the Keynsian pollicies that generated the longest and most prospoerous period in western history. There, my friend, is the real DERP.

Its the invisible hand of the market.

1. Meat industry gives money to politicians who are appointed to oversee the regulators charged with keeping people from being poisoned by food sold by said meat industry.

2. If regulators find something bad AND report it, they are subject to retaliation.

3. Because no one actually sees the hand that hands the money to the politicians, said hand is invisible to the unwashed masses who will be poisoned by the food.

Rinse and repeat.

It's already in the works. The Canada Health Accord expires in 2014, and a year ago the federal government unilaterally handed down a new cost-share formula that puts caps on the feds' share of costs after that. That means that the provinces will have to pay a larger share of the healthcare costs for an aging population, whether that means an increase in taxes, privatization or decreased service/quality. In the end, because it's a complicated issue years in the making, Harper's betting that the people will blame the provincial premiers when things go sideways, and unfortunately I think there's a good chance he's right.

lj1330: Question: Why are we importing beef from Canada? Don't we have enough of our own?

IANAR(ancher) but my guess is that it has something to do with the US using one third of its corn crop to make ethanol, mandated for use by the EPA. Corn is a major component of cattle feed (all that sugar fattens 'em up faster than a teenager on Big Gulps...well, equally fast, anyway). Raise the price/decrease the supply of corn, you change the economics of raising beef.

For cheaper beef, anyway. The more expensive range-fed stuff, not so much.

That's my guess, but I never did finish that GED in agribusiness, so YMMV
