appraiser Lisa Barnes, who works in Anthem.

"This particular artist doesn't have a history of sales," Barnes said.

Because of that, she said, it's tough give an exact appraisal.

"Someone like the Smithsonian would buy this because of the merit of how he captured and he depicted JFK," Barnes said

She seems really smrt.

For whatever reason, I am reminded of Tropical Mexico, a little dive Mexican joint in Pomona that had some terrific black velvet paintings on the wall, John F. Kennedy of course. Oh, college, why did I ever graduate?

I don't know how long this will sit on my shelf. I'll give you $50, and I'm really not sure why I'm doing that.

I've only been to the Smithsonian a couple times, but I don't recall their "garage sale prison art" exhibit. Must be new.

The portrait has mismatched eyes: the left side's iris is a lot bigger than the right side.

2012-11-24 12:38:43 AM
Why do we care why she's selling it? Would it matter if she were incredibly wealthy and wanted to sell it to a collector because it didn't fit with her room decor?

2012-11-24 12:39:57 AM
Wow! JFK has already been dead over 100 years. Hard to believe.

Why would someone want a drawing based on some crappy Oliver Stone movie?

2012-11-24 12:43:28 AM
I was going to wish her well with her $850, before reading TFA. But, after the comments she probably won't get that.

We're really in a down market now for JFK line drawings so the most I can offer is like five bucks. But hey, you put it in an auction, two guys really want it, and you never know - the sky could be the limit.

All I ever discovered at Sun City yard sales was old people.

2012-11-24 12:48:09 AM
Listen I know she said $5,000 but I have to buy a frame, get someone to put it in the frame, auction takes 30% and that's after it sits in the case for a years.. The JFK market just isn't what it used to be.. I'll give you $50, and not a dime more..

Sun City, FL? Or are there two Sun Cities in different states both filled exclusively with bluehairs?

aka the home of the Sheriff Joe Voter.

Some of the original houses date from the 60s; at this point I'd think it would be a tad creepy to live in a house where someone has probably died 3 or 4 times in the past.

That'll teach them for not playing Sun City.

Take it to one of those stupid pawn shop shows on tv, they might give you 50 bucks
for it. It's a drawing of JFK....it isn't like someone found a drawing of Lincoln or something
from a famous artist. This was a forger who never sold anything.
The only reason it's getting any press is because the media, as it is doing with obuma,
has put him up on a mantle.

Hard times can mean instead of buying an 8-Ball and a high priced Hooker you might settle for an adderall and a fat chick from the bar down the street.

Got to have your priorities, besides her husband Darrell Sheets had a gut feeling about that horse picture. You can't ignore that and sure enough it had the Wow Factor. I think we just invented a new show for A&E, Yard Chargers.

frig JFK and the type that would hang art of him on their wall. politicians are self-serving lying scum that look out for the interests of their wealthiest supporters and most influential connections. people that fall for pretty faces and lies are idiots.

If you need a frame, buying crappy pictures at garage sales is often the best deal going. You don't care about the picture, but you need the frame. That would also explain how they happened to find this picture behind the horse picture.

If I'd paid $5 for it, I'd be willing to sell it. I'd have no interest in having a pic of JFK on my wall, so the pic itself would be useless to me. Everyone can use more cash.

This would look great in the shop, but I gotta get it for the right price.

So, how much you want for it?

Well, the lady said $5,000, so I'll take that.

What do you really want for it?

*puzzled look* from gambling addict

I'll give you $1500. *stern look/poker
face*

How about $2500? It will sell, cmon man, this is JFK we're talking about.

I know, but I've got overhead, and I've got to get it framed. Who knows how long this will sit around. I'll tell you what...$1800 cash money. 100 dollar bills.

*deer in headlights stupidity* okay

Chum, write him up.

Hey, considering all the pain meds the guy was on for his back, it's amazing even Marilyn was able to get him going let alone having a bit of eye trouble.
Then again, the man was a horndog who didn't consider he'd had a woman till he had her "all three ways", and I ain't talking about standing, sitting and lying down. Likely when he was sitting down for the drawing some skirt kept walking past his right side.

My in-laws own (and currently rent out) a house in the Fort Mill location, pending their retirement.

Upon retirement, my own folks purchased a canal barge currently moored in Aalsmeer, Netherlands. They live on it during the summer.

I like my in-laws a lot... but I hope when the time comes for me to retire that my preferences would tip toward the latter.
