(Detroit Free Press)   Verdict is in on the impact of the Walmart black Friday strikes. It was their best black Friday ever. Bonus: they had higher profit due to the lower labor costs   (freep.com) divider line 384

2012-11-23 03:01:51 PM
So, that means support for traditional marriage and against Obamacare?

What strikes? Wake me up when a significant number of Walmart's employees walk out.

2012-11-23 04:30:32 PM
So, we should all be delighted to look forward to another year of taxpayers picking up the tab for housing, feeding, and providing medical care to subsidize shiatty employers. Yay.

This is no way smells like PR copypasta

I heard if you eat a Papa John's pizza with Chik-Fil-A sandwiches as a topping while watching Fox News in a Walmart on Black Friday and whisper "Trickle Down. Trickle Down. Trickle Down." the ghost of Ronald Reagan will appear and whisper "I watch Sarah Palin pooping sometimes."

Chock up another failure for union extortion rackets.

I would hope a company that opens their doors at least 4 hours earlier than they did the year before would sell more products.

Supported Chik fil a during the great liberal butthurt. Supported Walmart today. And I hate the Christmas crowds.

Wasn't providing medical care the whole point of Obamacare? Guess I thought you guys were all hip with that idea...getting everyone medical coverage by having the 'rich' subsidize it. Right?

I get that unions are no panacea, but without organized labor, we get Walmart. What is the option? Germany seems to balance this issue much better.

Like I said in the other thread a dew days ago, Walmart has 2 million employees. Without a union, the employees can't organize anything large enough for Walmart to even notice.

The option is to allow people who want to work at Wal-mart to work at Wal-mart. No one is supposed to look at Wal-mart and think, "hey, there's a career for me as a cashier!" The Wal-mart job is a great starting point for those with no/low skills and little education. Get that cashier job and then move on to something bigger and better. No one is forcing these people to work there.

lol, is that what you think actually happens at Wal-Mart? Or any shiatty labor job at all?

Maybe a few teenagers take those kinds of shiat jobs as a "starting point" before getting better education and opportunities later, but adults getting shiat pay at a shiat job are not getting the skills or education to "move on to something bigger and better" working their limbs off for Wal-Mart.

Wow, two A-list trolls in one thread! Nothing gets them going like defending our betters' inherent right to treat all workers like something scraped off the bottom of one's tassled loafers.

Pretty much this. Unless they state a mass walkout on Black Friday the herd isn't even going to notice. Does anyone really shop there for the awesome service?

Oh, I'm quite sure that so called conservatives are much too busy giving themselves invisible handjobs of the free market to read this thread right now.

The employees organized enough energy to load that big-screen TV into my vehicle, so don't tell me they can't organize.

Curious, that.

If you don't like how Wal-Mart treats its employees, then don't shop there and hope they go out of business.

Oh, I know. There are any number of sincere, thoughtful conservatives here at Fark with whom I can have an intellectually honest and challenging disagreement. You, on the other hand, are just a farking troll.

The notion that so many Americans have such low value of their own time, and such need for inexpensive goods that they are willing to endure "Balck Friday" to get them may be a victory for Wal-Mart, but a Pyrrhic one for everybody else.
