Here it is in a nutshell: Though the Benghazi attack involved clear failures of U.S. security, Republicans have concentrated on a dubious subsidiary issue: the alleged failure of the administration to publicly recognize quickly enough that the incident was "a terrorist attack." In fact, Mr. Obama has acknowledged that "the information may not have always been right the first time." But if there was a White House conspiracy to cover up the truth, Republicans have yet to produce any evidence of it - much less a connection to Ms. Rice, who had no involvement with the Benghazi attack other than those television appearances.

Is this a battle that Republicans feel that they are winning?

They always feel they are winning. They are usually wrong. But they *feel* it in their guts.

I think a lot of them are watching and listening to the Conservative Entertainment Complex, which (of course) is doubling down to make as much money from it as they can, while they can.

What's bizzarre about the GOP unjustly attacking a woman of color with obvious lies?

It's disgusting and unsupportable, of course, but it shouldn't come as any kind of a surprise by now.

It's kind of what they do.

What we do know is that more than 80 of the signatories are white males, and nearly half are from states of the former Confederacy.

Ya don't say.

I could post images of Clinton an Bush both using teleprompters, both not wearing a jacket in the Oval Office and both bowing to foreign dignitaries and no one said anything.

When Obama did it they freaked the fark out. I think is just a mystery for the ages (but definitely no type of bigotry involved).

Idiotic conspiracy theories?

Fact: The Obama administration screwed up beyond all measure. They were told over and over and over and over again that the situation was dire and that more security was needed. They ignored it.

Fact: They knew what was happening as it was happening and sat around bumbling while Americans were killed.

Fact: This was such a pressing issue that Obama decided to jet off to a fund raiser instead of doing his damn job.

Now what happens from this point is what you can call a "conspiracy" theory if you want.

Realizing that they had screwed the pooch twice and knowing how horrifically bad Obama would look for his response before, during and after the attack an Obama official was sent out to spin an absolute lie. When that didn't work, a new story had to hastily put together to explain away why the lie was told. This is when we learned what had been going on, who knew what when, and so on and so forth. Now what might actually be true was that this wasn't done just because it was right before the election... Because an egomaniac like Obama would have gone through the same covering up process with or without the election.

Obama was grossly incompetent no matter how you slice it. Even if absolutely everything he says is true... He's STILL grossly incompetent to a criminal level. There would already be law suits lined up and charges being figured out if he was not POTUS. He would be sued out of house and home and his career would be over. It's up to you if you want to believe he has been trying to cover up that level of incompetence with one lie after another, but it changes nothing.

I used to say Obama was either lying or stupid, now he's either stupid by his own admission and a liar, or just stupid by his own admission. You can pick which one.

With Clinton, people still muttered that sort of thing to themselves or printed it in newsletters not too many people received. We just didn't have a 24 hour propaganda channel and the internet to amplify the message. With Bush, well, he's a Republican so it was OK. Now it's a perfect storm: a Democrat AND he's not white.

I don't believe that all Obama criticism stems from racism (which is what the right media machine and bloggers keep telling me that I think), but even with the mentioned exponential growth in communications explaining much of the derangement syndrome vs. Clinton's, you have to be naive to believe that race doesn't play a part.

Fact: They should have anticipated an attack on one specific consulate - not even the main embassy in a given country. Just as has happened on every anniversary of 9/11.
Fact: There's a damn sight between being able to watch something on a TV screen and being able to stop it.
Fact: There's a few new inventions. They're called telephones and pilots. It's not like Obama was personally flying the plane and out of contact. Although I do suppose that there is a point in your favor here: St Reagan (peace be upon him), could have personally stopped the attack Chuck Norris style.

though I agree, I would add that I think the Banghazi thing for Republicans -and to some extent, how they treat Obama as a whole- seems to have more to do with over-compensating on trying to white-wash the Bush years. They can't really take down anything on Obama's foreign policy records as it generally underscores how worthless the Bush Administration's policies were (i.e. killing Bin Laden, leaving Iraq, etc. Hell, even the Republicans haven't bothered to even try to say they wouldn't do drone strikes as well.), so they attach themselves to Benghazi because it is *something*; even if that something generally just hinges on semantics.
