Two of my faborite cats were black. Tommy, who we thought was Tammy..and Porky. Who was huge, survived a fight with a car, broke his jaw, lost an eye, and went on to be a mighty hunter, and one of my best friends. I am so thankful for my feline family, past and present!

Hey Mods, give us an early Thankgiving Caturday!

Happy Thanksgiving everbuddy! Went and made brunch for the step-dad, and came home. Was going to mow the back yard....while I still can, and the mower wouldn't start! Came in and was going to put plactic up on the 1 window that needs it for the winter, and I bought the wrong size of plastic, so I said "screw it" and opened a beer! :D

Just got back from niece's for dinner. We had your basic turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry from the can, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie and cherry pie. Her husband made baked beans with jalapeno peppers yesterday and served it today so after 24 hours it was more like jalapeno peppers with some baked beans.
I hope everyone is having a Happy Thanksgiving.

Not to spoil the good spirit, but isn't part of the point of charging an adoption fee to actually add a sense of value to the animal? Shots and vet bills aside, I've heard more than one agency say they charge what they do so people don't adopt them willy-nilly, possibly resulting in the animal being abandoned.

That is a good point, but I think they still have to fill out adoption papers either way.

I suspect this is to highlight the fact that often times black cats, and dogs don't get adopted, like other colours do. I would still donate something...and I bet most adopters will as well. And yes, fees both fund and add value to pet adoptions. -which is why a pet Guinea Pig will set you back 30.00...(because they are a long term commitment...5-7 yrs!).

I was sitting on the porch earlier this afternoon, enjoying a stogie.
Minding my own business.
About that time, a stray cat walked up on the porch, looked at me,
wandered over towards me and then it jumped up onto my lap.

She buried her face into my whiskers, then climbed up my chest and gave me head bonks.
Then, she climbed up onto my shoulder and purred into my left ear for several minutes before
climbing back down onto my lap and inviting me to pet her.

She was so close, and the camera on my phone is so crappy that I wasn't able
to get any decent pictures to prove that it really happened. Oh well.

I got myself some actual "Furry Lovin"!

Not to gross anybody out but my family likes fried gizzards so while most people fight over the drumsticks my family draws lots for the gizzard. Tomorrow when I make a turkey sandwich for lunch Jack and Gremie will get their share then, because they will be trying to trip me to get to the sandwich.

That's my thinking. I think I would be hesitant to give away a cat, especially a black cat. I can see cutting their adoption fee but free makes me leery of freaks and weirdos (well, freaks and weirdos worse than us! HA!)

Ok, so now I have to tell the "Parrot" tale. My great Grandma lived on a farm. She always made Sunday dinner. One time she invited the minister, and introduced him to her Parrot, who knew that nursery rhyme..only this time the bird kept repeating, "Georgie Porgie Puddin and pie, kissed the girls and made them" try as she might she could not get the bird to finish the phrase. No one knows what the Preacher thought! But I bet he was scandalized!

Oh, yeah: because it was freakin' delicious, that's why.

My grandma is a darn good cook. She's from Oklahoma and if you know anything about Southern cooking...she makes a potato salad that makes the store bought ones taste like shiat.

We had:
Turkey, homemade potato salad, homemade cornbread stuffing, giblet gravy, mixed vegetables, cranberry sauce, homemade pumpkin pies, fruit salad with whipped topping, our answer to ambrosia with pie filling in the mix, and lots of Cool Whip.
Oh, I could pass out. It was good!

Yep, we are stuffed here too! I use the giblets in the stuffing(bread)..plus bird, sweet spuds, made by hubby, and cranberry/apple/pineapple jello salad. It is really good! Just a nice twist on the usual cranberry sauce. My Mom served it a few yrs ago, and we fell in love with it!

Ah....so, when I first open the "photo sharing place", it will cooperate. But if I leave it open and try to do another photo, it says "no...not for you". Or, it will lock up my whole system.....
So....this is Lily. She's coming out to say "Hai".

professional_vampire: Hai, everybody! Hope everyone had/is having a great Thanksgiving!

Oh, holy Ceiling Cat, I'm full! Went to the brother-in-law's for dinner. We had...turkey, spinach stuffing, sausage stuffing, harvest stuffing, cornbread and sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, turnips, green bean casserole, creamed onions, carrots, red cabbage, gravy, canned cranberry sauce and homemade cranberry sauce. Dessert was apple pie, pumpkin pie, apple cider doughnuts, pumpkin bread, cranberry bread, whipped cream and cookies. I may never eat again!

Ok, I think you have me beat. We still have not nommed the pecan pie. I suspect it may wait til tomorrow...huuby and son are upstairs watching anime, I am downstairs, here. It's good..no guests this year, good/bad, because I miss Uncle Fred. Which reminds me, I need to call him..brb...

Stuffed here too, went to my sister's house and ate lots of yummy food. Cretinbob had to work, so he missed out on dinner. He works almost every holiday, on purpose. After reading all the hoopla on Facebook about boycotting companies who make their employees work on holidays, I just shake my head. My mom used to have to work holidays, so did Cretinbob and I. It wasn't the end of the world, really.

We also have some "Black" Friday kitty deals, we'll be at Petco this weekend where I hope some of these cuties will be noticed and adopted.
Raven Link has a potential adopter.
Nova Link is new here.
Coco Link has been here a while. All her kittens were adopted, but like most momma cats, sticks around because people usually want kittens and not adults.
Paco and Pepe Link one photo, identical brothers!

Lots of nice black kitties waiting for new homes.

Speaking of that...does anyone else do a "theme" or specific color for Christmas besides me? I've done that ever since I worked in a floral shop years ago.....I always do my tree in a different color each year.

My mom used to do that, she was on a red/gold kick for a while when I was a kid. Only red and gold balls on the tree.
My trees have always just been a collection of whatever I put on them, usually the kids ornaments.

Not too sure what her story is, mom just found her on the porch yesterday. There were some other kittens nearby but they were feral and tried to tear your hand off. This little girl is like "meh". Right now, she's snuggled up in my hoodie. Has a little fear but hasn't lashed out like a feral baby would. Not sure of her age, just starting to get her fangs in and eyes are still blue. Is trying to eat solid food but does better with the gooshies than dry.

Hello everybodeee!

 ^-^
='.'=

Just checking in before picking up an extra shift...regular guy wanted to hit the Midnight Madness sale...apparently he has his eye on a 40" flat screen TV for...um, can't remember, but it was a shockingly low price.

Went out to eat this year at The Pig Trough Golden Corral...and apparently so did everyone else! Managed to save a bit of turkey for D'Artagnan. He doesn't like gushyfud- gives me this "Really?" look when I put some down for him.
He prefers the stuff the hoomans are eating, thank you.

Wish I could adopt more black kitties for my Ninja Clowder (we tell Wimsey that he is an 'undercover ninja' so he won't feel left out), but D'Artagnan wouldn't appreciate it.
He's affectionate with ME and friendly towards other humans, but he isn't azackly fond of his clowder mates.

Bloody damn photobucket STIIL won't let me log in...GRRRRR

Good week, bad week. Any week that has Thanksgiving in it has to be good! Snuffycat has been seriously ill this week. He won't eat, he won't drink. He was fine last Saturday, Sunday he seemed lethargic, Monday and Tuesday he wouldn't eat breakfast. We got him to the vet's Tuesday where they hydrated him and gave him an antibiotic (Snuffy didn't cooperate at all!), but they couldn't really spot anything wrong. She assumes he had a run in with another cat and has an abscess somewhere under all that fur. Tuesday evening he seemed fine, but he hasn't touched a bit of food or water since. He turned up his nose at gushy cat food and at bacon this morning. Vet's opens at 8:00 tomorrow, I'll be calling at 8:01.

As for good week, it's Thanksgiving, my cold is finally gone, and I haven't been to work in a week! The young cats met the grandbabies today! Snuffy and Jet hid of course, so did Jack cat once he realized there were small smelly crawly things in the house! Desi and Cisco like babies however!

i380.photobucket.com

Desi, Cisco and the baby.

Young Zach really liked Cisco, he would scream because the kitty walked away from him and he didn't have any way of chasing him (Zach's a week or 3 away from crawling). Desi gets lots of props today, he stayed out throughout dinner and afterwards, even after Zach's brother and sister arrived. Liliana love Desi, I think she would have carried him home if he could, and Desi dealt well with the affection of a 2 year old he'd never met before!

We've been aware that the kittens could get on the kitchen counters, but the only food that is usually left out is fruit. I bought some really yummy rolls on Tuesday at Fresh Market, in a thin plastic bag, and left them out on the counter. I made what I hoped was my last trip to the grocery on my way home from work yesterday, only to find holes in the plastic bag and bites taken out of almost every roll. Bought a spray bottle -- they've gotten several sprays, but it's not really working. They kept getting on the dining table to check out the flowers. We've already decided that a tree is out of the question for Christmas - KITTENS!

quantum_jellyroll: I was sitting on the porch earlier this afternoon, enjoying a stogie.

Domari is taking a group down to Petco this weekend to go to new homes and I think that's one of them

I love visiting with the Petco and PetSmart kitties whenever I am in the store. I don't like it though when one of the kitties is out of food or water. I always have to tell the manager to be sure that it gets fixed immediately.

Wow they let bowls get empty? The Petco I bring the cats to has had complaints when the bowls aren't filled to the top! We've put huge bowls in the cat rooms and fill them so people don't complain.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised to see that. I have also seen cats that had obvious upper respiratory infections and gunky eyes there. There were only 2 cats at the store, so I am sure that someone just forgot. But, this was early afternoon and I wondered how long her food dish had been empty.

The adoption center in our closest Petco is run by another rescue and used by several rescues. I leave some cats there and bring some cats in only for adoption events. There are volunteers who are in the adoption center all day who clean up and make sure all the bowls are full and litter pans clean. When the store opens in the morning the Petco employees go in and do the same before the volunteers arrive. If any of the cats look sick at all, sneeze, have diarrhea, etc then we go get them out of there and bring them back home.

Some of the Petco employees complained when the other rescue had a cat with runny eyes in there. It was a Persian mix that had chronic runny eyes, like a lot of short nose breeds do. The rescue took the cat back out of the store, even though it wasn't sick, the Petco employees still complained about it being there. They don't want any sick looking cats in the store.

Before we bring any cats to the store we need to make sure they all have shots, wormed, spayed/neutered if old enough.

Cats aren't going to be adopted if they look sick in the store, they shouldn't be there at all.

domari: Stuffed here too, went to my sister's house and ate lots of yummy food.

Man I used to be the FIRST to volunteer to work holidays at the hospital...
I did it for so many years straight till a co-worker and I somehow ended up working a 14 day stretch right through Christmas Eve till New Years Day.
Hahaha! we got one hell of a paycheck - and then our boss was told "NEVER.AGAIN. Those two just got paid what your entire group would have gotten paid for two weeks regular work. Get other people to volunteer these two are blocked for the next how many years."
/man we were dead ass tired by the time the 14th day hit, but the following few days off were more welcomed hahaha

We've already decided that a tree is out of the question for Christmas - KITTENS!

hahahha!!!
I see they had to just make sure that they did a "safety taste check" on every single roll for you - how thoughful AND helpful of them :3

LOL, cute! Buddy's nearly 12 though, I don't think his back could handle it. Wouldn't be nearly as funny if there were an assistive device involved.

Besides, as soon as he saw the cat, he'd bow in submission and just sit there waiting for it to biatch-slap him. :)

Snuffycat's fever is gone, temps are back to normal. His weight is down a couple of ounces from Tuesday. This time he got blood drawn for a full bloodwork, he's 11 and can use that anyways. He was pumped full of IV fluids, he got a shot of Metacam (for pain and inflammation), a Cyproheptadine capsule, and a B-12 injection. We also got 3 cans of the really stinky cat food, the kind that's supposed to be irresistible to even sick cats. The vet seems to think he's doing ok, but she's not finding anything obviously wrong with him. Right now he's sulking under the dining room table.

Sadly, my very shy GoGo Beastie almost did not get a Thanksgiving. Too many people in and out, so she hid all day long. If she had not thrown herself against my bedroom door repeatedly right before midnight, she would have missed her TD goodies completely.

Well, not missed the goodies completely, just the day. I gave her a tiny bit more goodies today, but she's really only interested in the gravy. Silly kitteh! The stuffing, not the gravy, is the best part, which is why I am not sharing it with you!

Yesterday I was telling my former brother in law about Jack and the meter reader. He proceeded to tell me about his brother and the meter reader. His brother lives in Florida in the middle of nowhere. He also used to work with animals in the circus , now he occasionally rehabs exotic animals. He was babysitting an elephant for a friend for a few weeks. The elephant was out in the front yard when the meter reader pulls up in his car and gets out of his car wearing a yellow jumpsuit (part of their uniform) .It turns out the elephant has bad memories of a trainer who wore a yellow outfit to perform. The elephant let out a yell and chased the meter reader back to his car while the babysitter got the elephant under control. He told the guy to take off the yellow suit. After that, no problems but the meter reader got a picture for proof. I don't have a picture but if you knew this guy like I do ,you would be saying "It could only happen to him"

There seems to be a plot locally to return us & some other folk to the days of our youths. Cincinnati Christkindlmarkt opened on Fountain Square, center of downtown, this afternoon. Runs til 7PM Sun eve. Only took til this century, there were of course scads of 'em in almost every town & city in W Germany during Plumbicon's military "career".
Turkey'll be done soon; right now looks as if we'll share mostly tomorrow. as Overlords & -Ladies were all hungry half an hour ago.

tigerose: gremlin1: Yesterday I was telling my former brother in law about Jack and the meter reader.

I think this story trumps me, "Eli chasing the mailman upthe street and not letting him on the neighbors porch" story...

Well it certainly beat my Jack tried to eat the meter reader.
When this guy was still with the circus he used to stop at my sister's house to visit the family for a weekend every once in awhile, but he always called first to let my sister know what kind of animals he was bringing home. My nieces loved it, my sister not so much.

My daughter loves Arrietty; but, sadly, the hubs isn't into any of them.

Kyro: Not to spoil the good spirit, but isn't part of the point of charging an adoption fee to actually add a sense of value to the animal? Shots and vet bills aside, I've heard more than one agency say they charge what they do so people don't adopt them willy-nilly, possibly resulting in the animal being abandoned.

While I understand (and agree with) your concern, I would like to think that any shelter/adoption center would continue to thoroughly vet potential adopters despite the cost.

I haven't had a dog since my son was a young child. He's in his 20's now and still somewhat afraid of them. It gives me a sad sometimes, then I look over at my cat, the potential serial killer, and think "at least we have each other, GoGo Beastie". Then the sad isn't quite so bad.

Ohhh! How cute and comfy looking! I miss having a dog. I know the cat would be very upset, but she'd get over it eventually. In any event, I'd get one of those little yappy, rat sized dogs. I've always thought long haired chihuahuas were super cute, so maybe one of those. My cat is a Wegie and they're quite large, so it would be funny to see her run in terror from a tiny little thing. More importantly, she'd learn she could take the dog in fair, paw to paw combat. Not that I'd want to deal with that (My babies!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! is what I imagine my reaction would be) but it would probably only take a swat or two and the dog would learn as well.

I might have to start working on the concept of a dog with the rest of my family again. I doubt any of them will understand, least of all the cat, but I could give it a go and then look to the rescues and shelters for a tiny little buddy.

Greetings, Caturday folk! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I have been busy sleeping, eating, and reading Caturday today. We (my dad & I) host the big family get-together, 15 in all, and I am exhausted.

Here's 4 year old Eboni, my almost-black kitty:

Temp threadsend, past time for me to turn in cept for Mondays.
Tnx to both Mrs CDK & CDK for the Fausts.
Not taking notes again; tigerose, of course camera's always in other rm when they're cutest! Furry & sons lined up on kitchen counter, where their bowls are, the other AM. Woulda been such a decent pic, cept by time I got the camera they'd be gone. Also Jimmy & Stripe can stand on their hind legs; their sisters don't. do that. Never yet got a pic of that.
Think/hope I've exhausted the linkies stock & stack. There were 9.

Our fave Alien fetched this in a couple wks ago. Rather apt, & what I'll be like shortly, tho not as furry.
Til daylight --

Via Infinito: tigerose: Totoro is one of my favorite movies..right behind Kiki...I was in the garage attic and found a halloween dec I forgot I had. Looks like Kiki! He will come inside to reside in the attic until next October! Talk about shopping in your own "closet"

I just bought that Totoro shirt last week! I think we own all the Studio Ghibli films, but Totoro will always be my fav. I love the catbus!
My daughter loves Arrietty; but, sadly, the hubs isn't into any of them.

Oh and I guess I should post an obligatory kitty pic since this IS a Caturday thread.

This is Sake. I think she looks a lot like Zuma, akimbotoo's kitty.
She's sleeping on my insanely soft and comfy robe, which I never get to wear anymore.

[i194.photobucket.com image 850x666]

She is gorgeous! She does look a lot like Zuma when he was a lot younger. His markings are now so dark brown they almost look black in certain light. It is amazing how fast they claim the soft and comfy stuff for themselves, isn't it?

No kitty of my own, but I got to snuggle with our friend's cat and dog on Thanksgiving. The dog's name is Indiana and the poor thing is allergic to practically everything, poor baby. Since he can't have people food of any kind he considers being given an ice cube a treat and will beg for one. Indiana loves to get tummy skritches.

Their cat is Hank and he's an indoor/outdoor cat and is very affectionate.

Oh Christ no.... I hate crowds and don't have a lot of spending money anyway. You're very brave venturing into the crazed herds of shoppers! I can imagine it was rather mental. I've never seen Canadian retailers push Black Friday like they have this year. I guess they're afraid we'll abandon them and all go cross-border shopping in the US with our strong Canadian dollar. Competition is fierce. I'd rather sit at home in front of the internet any day! Hope you managed all right out there. :)

Couldn't have gone downtown if I wanted to today anyway -- this cold I have is creeping into bronchitis territory. Was feeling almost better yesterday morning, then started coughing brains out all last night and today, I'm all full of gunk and I'm getting that weak tired kicked in the chest feeling. I think it will be the icky walk-in clinic for me tomorrow. :op That's what I get for quitting smoking, lol.

2012-11-24 08:19:44 AM
Been a rough Thanksgiving holiday for me.

I spent 3 hours at the emergency vet Wednesday night. I noticed that one of my cats, Louie, was again having problems peeing. I was getting ready for bed and said 'screw it, we are going now' so off we go to the emergency vet. It was a quiet night there. He peed in the crate on the way over so not blocked. They took a sample (that took a while, he didn't give it up easily) and found crystals and bacteria. He received a nice pain shot, more pain meds for at home and liquid antibiotics. Got home late and put him in the room with 2 of his brothers and I went to bed. I got up at 6 am (not very much sleep) and checked on him. I gave him more pain meds at 8 am or so and he went trippin'.
i112.photobucket.com

He sat under the coffee table for almost 2 hours. Just sat. He finally moved to my bedroom and peed on the floor (I was just glad he peed). He has since been peeing. He seemed a little 'off' yesterday so I gave him another pain med. He just rested on top of the cat tree. Seems to be fine today. And I've had the joy of giving hims his amitryptiline and antibiotics. He sees me coming and starts running.

i112.photobucket.com

oh and even better, I leave Monday afternoon for Seattle for the week. I won't get back till next Saturday morning (red eye again).

I'll be taking him to my vet Monday morning and if they think he should, he will spend the week there.

She depictured (just got pic from AnimRescueSite this AM, a Rescue Tale/Tail) is Miss Molly in Manchester NH. Guy she lived with for 5 yrs lost job, house & car all within a wk. Female friend/acq whose name's in the tale which I saved adopted MM, tho 2 cats already let her live with them. It's worked out well.
Can stand to re-work this; embiggen if it will & make type bolder. Timing, duh!
Our fave AlienDandelion commented that few were up when she arrived -- many E of Rocky Mtns had turned in by then.
Also for gremlin1, methinx, tale of 1200 lb gizzard fry a Today tale one must almost trip over to reach here.
Only linkie of the 9 not fetched was 10 Tips For Taking Gt Pet Fotos. Besides "have camera to hand 99% of time" (not what they said!), I'd add "ensure memory not full". Almost got good one of Stripe earlier, but didn't quite. Got "memory full" on next click try. Memory now nearly empty, as moved entire exposure contents to appropriate folder!
May now clean up leftover chow if any, let Ginger & little girls (Stripe & Jimmy's sisters) out til lunch.

It's cold and snowing out and the squirrels are driving Gremie crazy. The squirrels are running around the front yard and up the tree and Gremie is running from window to window trying to keep up with them. He's "garbling" as he runs from room to room.

It's not so bad.

Besides, as soon as he saw the cat, he'd bow in submission and just sit there waiting for it to biatch-slap him. :)

Because I Can, now type at ft of pg 7. Partly lucky this time, no permanent losses, just ills & ails which are quite bad enough.
AlienDandelion, fang q again for all the overnite stuff. Tho insomnia's not a blessing (cept one that gets blessed out, often profanely), it does result in SeeWorthy posts & pix. Esp got a hoot from linkied CatVDogFriend. Rabbit_Tongue w hedgehog also quite good.
spinach gunk, don't really know what to recommend for bronchitis, or coming-bronchitis. As in my chorus, there are surely enough RNs here to suggest tho of course not prescribe (only some nurse practitioners can do that).
CrankyAndi, regret the vet trip for Louie tho it sounds like it did Aid Abet & Assist. Re care of critters when hoo-mons are absent, we hire one of the experienced vet techs from the clinic we patronise & live near. She also feeds a feral colony near where she lives, which is furr-ther north. Also like The Hat on both Louie & Ellie.
NotSoNiceBunny, you may know the song G'ma Got Run Over By A Reindeer too well. Chorus has picked it up for our 2012 holiday show (free tix to control limited available seating). Hear in my head, ...Blue & silver candles Would've nicely matched the hair in G'ma's wig.

CrankyAndi: Been a rough Thanksgiving holiday for me.

Sounds like Louie has Cooperitis...poor baby. Why do they alwys get sick when their normal vet isn't open?? Anyway, glad that he's feeling a little better.

And I've had the joy of giving hims his amitryptiline and antibiotics. He sees me coming and starts running.

CDK and I made a pact a long time ago that only one of us would ever medicate the cats. That way, they will only run from one of us.CDK drew the short straw. Poor CDK...because of all his blockages, he has medicated Cooper so many times now, that Cooper is always wary of him and runs from him more often than not, even when he is not on any medication :( . I don't remember...is Louie on any special food?

Cooper is getting sub-q's twice a week now in hopes that it keeps him hydrated and flushed out enough that he won't have to have that PU surgery. He says he doesn't wanna be a grl kitty. Thankfully, he doesn't mind getting the fluids. It's just shoving those nasty pills down his throat that he can't stand.

Give Louie some scritches for us and tell him to stop making those nasty crystals....

Happy Caturday everybody! I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving, and that much turkey was shared with our furry overlords! (Fozzie got some, but the kitties weren't around at clean up, so they have not, yet.)

A couple of weeks ago, we had an unexpected visitor show up at the DV Shelter where I spend my Tuesday nights and Saturdays. Being that we are a safe house, and nobody is supposed to know where we are, and anybody who shows up will likely be taken away with the help of the County's finest, it's been quite a surprise that this guest has lingered! It may be because she's so freakin' cute and cuddly and the residents just adore her...

i903.photobucket.com

There are no furkids allowed in the house, so she's been staying outside, but several of the staff, along with some of the residents, have fixed up a nice, cozy house for her. She gets fed and adored, so she's stuck around. One of my co-workers here works with Voices for Animals and has contacted the local no-kill shelter and will be taking her in to (a) see if she's been reported lost - she's young, likely just about a year and very friendly and (b) if not, have her spayed and get her vaccinated. The residents here love having a kitty, but there's no structure to what she gets fed and this morning I dumped turkey bones out of an otherwise empty food bowl! I already had to ask one well-meaning caretaker to please not give her evaporated milk! Anyway - if she's truly a stray and she turns out negative for all the nasty contagious things that I don't want shared with my crew, I may just end up with a new kitty! There are a couple of other people here who are interested - they maintain that she'd be happier as an indoor / outdoor kitty and while that may be, it is just not possible in my neighborhood, so she may end up going with one of them for that reason.

Checking in on Snuffycat. The vet called with the results of his blood work. There are some signs of an infection, and one of his liver enzymes was slightly out of whack, but other than that everything's fine. The vet says there's nothing to be concerned about as his other liver enzyme results are fine, and you would expect to see signs of an infection as that's what probably laid him low.

He's eating, not as much as we'd like but anything is good right now. He licked a piece of turkey to death earlier (Jack cat finished what was left after the lickings), and he really really really wants to go out. We did let him out for a bit this morning, we knew the cold would bring him right back. He's been headbutting me all morning, that's Snuffytalk for "follow me dad, let me out". It's amazing how stupid I get on days like today, it's like I can't understand the cat at all!

Gentle Caturdayians, a skunk question. We have a skunk living underneath our tool shed. A neighbor's dog was sprayed by a skunk last night, so of course she came by and complained about "our skunk". Dude! It's a wild animal! You can't prove it was "our" skunk anyway. But in an effort to keep the peace, the poor skunk must be evicted.

My plan: wait until monday and get a free humane trap from animal control. Catch the critter then release it elsewhere, with hope in our hearts that no one (and no vehicle) gets skunked.

My mom's plan: "You are a grown woman! Get your butt out there with a shovel and dig it out and board up the entrance!" *stomps off to go shopping*

Now, I know skunks are nocturnal, so I am understandably hesitant to do this. I don't know anyone who wouldn't be cranky if they got woke up that way. So, in order to appease my mom and evict said skunk pronto, what other options are there, if any? I think she expects it to be gone before dinnertime, which I think is more unrealistic than an 8 bit video game.

*sigh* There are a lot of advantages to having your whole multi-generational family in one house. Every once in a while though....

Maxim, chilling on the futon. The shelter we got him from, the ARL-IA, has a "Black Cat Club" program that promotes black cats getting adopted, and so far it's really helped! He and his sister Yuki are really getting along well - except now they've developed the habit of waiting outside the bathroom everytime someone goes in there, occasionally sticking paws under the door -_- It makes taking a shower interesting.

This jaunty young felon is my rescued Siamese-mix Cockeye (super cross-eyed with impaired vision). Our HOA president issued a ban on all animals being outside of their yards sans leash this summer, directed at my furred escape artist and three or four other cats in our subdivision. He was a satchel of dirty dicks about the whole thing, though, and was incredibly unpleasant. (He barged into my home, screaming and red-faced, on two occasions. He cornered my teenage son on his way to school, threatening to trap and kill our pet. He verbally assaulted my visiting 70 year old mother and 76 year old father about the cat as well, since I rent from them, along with a few other nasty incidents.)

In response to his nastiness, I leash-trained my cat to get around the new by-laws. We parade Cockeye up and down the sidewalk in front of his home whenever he's out doing yard work, and there is not a single damn thing he can do about it. My family has developed an intense interest in Cockeye's daily constitutionals: my mother will rush in when she arrives, yelling, "That bastard is outside, get the leash!" and then spend a half an hour talking to my neighbors along the street, Cockeye happily strutting his stuff along and enjoying the spectacle.

Because people stop and exclaim whenever they see a cat walking on a leash.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: Gentle Caturdayians, a skunk question.

I've had a lot of skunk problems over the years, most recently last February (both Jazzy and Mickey got nailed). I've never evicted a skunk so can't help you there with any advice. All we do is a quick recon of the backyard before we let the dogs out (WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? ARF! ARF! ARF-ARF!) usually all the time, but always when it's dark.

Went grocery shopping today and picked up a package of ox tails. The animals are all excited. I cook up the ox tails for soup and give the bones to Jack and Gremie. Jack gets the large ones and Gremie gets the small ones. They have been following me around the kitchen " Can I have It now?" I keep telling them they have to wait until I'm done with them. So they get their treat tomorrow after the bones have been cooked and cooled.

Thanks! I think he's sorta cute, too! He just turned one last Tuesday and is very much a puppy, but the kitties seem to actually like, rather than simply tolerate, him. He's a good fit into my little zoo. Quite a change from a Chow Chow or Pit Bull Terrier! His litter mates all looked like Shih Tzus, as did his mom, so I am really not sure where he came from! There's also some Jack Russell in there, I think (that's the wonderful thing about mutts - you never really know what you get!) that sort of tempers the frailer Papillion frame and makes him utterly fearless. One of his best buddies is Lucy, a 100 pound Rottie!

If you search kijiji for Fredericton New Brunswick's cats for adoption/sale section you will see Izzy.

She's a sweet miss who's daddy has now been fixed so no more bitties will occur, but I need to find a home for her and get back down to the original 3 cats, as i live in a one bedroom apt, and am currently unemployed.

I would have rehomed her at the normal age (she's now 10 mnths) but my cat hoarding hubby wouldn't let me.

My roommate in college had a giant black male cat named Drake (short for Draken Korin, the name of a badass demigod dragon-riding bastard in a fantasy novel by Raymond Feist). He wasn't neutered, and had a way of getting to the outside world without our help (through the ceiling). He carved out a great and glorious cat kingdom, so when we moved he immediately scrammed and ran back to his fiefdom. We never saw him again, though we may have seen his kids several years later. If you're ever in Downtown Lawrence Kansas and see a badass black feral cat, it's probably Drake's descendent.

My mum said "no Sheba wont do that" as soon as my mother said that Sheba opened her eyes stood up and in one leap with claws out, went from the radiator to on top of the turkey in the middle of the table. We all just stared opened mouthed as the cat got up turned around shook her back feet at us and lept down from the table and stalked out of the room.

:op That's what I get for quitting smoking, lol.

in2it, tnx for linkie to game (tho I don't play video games). Did copy link & FastStoned a copy of most of the playing board.
Good tale/tail, Lilith. Could see it all as I read! Also good comment by Real Women that Folk Don't Listen.
Think I started to type that it was good to see Fozzie's 9wk old pic again; reigning told us all he's Papillon, or partly so, when he came home to live with her & the others.

Ooolllddd. Credit to ZeroExponent, whose profile was still up when I sought it last Caturday.
Did get to votie Over There, also nipped into their shop to see what they had. Logo Ts, traditional & vintage, Banana For Scale Ts, also an imgurKitty T only in asphalt grey. The kitty's a white & tabby looking longhair. I won't pay the listed price, because I'm cheap & stingy.
There's also a cartoon, looks editorial but may not be. Parade with banner on 2 uprights, Save The Twinkie. Someone else over to left side says "We're doomed."  ba-dum-bum

Via Infinito: Bathia_Mapes: No kitty of my own, but I got to snuggle with our friend's cat and dog on Thanksgiving.

Glad you had a good time! I'm sure Indiana appreciated all the attention.
I didn't realize you didn't have a kitty!
If you live near Knoxville I can hook you up with my friend who is fostering two new kittens this week! :)

We had a kitty, but we had to put Tilly to sleep on Mother's Day due to cancer. Her picture is in my profile.

Nowhere near Knoxville (I'm in Oregon), but I'm not quite ready for a new kitty just yet. I do appreciate the offer though. :-)

Indiana is quite the attention whore when it comes to skritches, but the poor fella doesn't quite seem to understand why he can't have the occasional nibble of people food.

I realize I didn't say what kind of dog Indiana is. He's a black & white border collie. And Hank is a gray tabby.

Go troll elsewhere. This is the weekly Caturday thread. If you don't like nor appreciate cats, dogs, ferrets, etc. then begone. No one forced you to read this thread.
